Judge Azrul Darus sentenced Marchell Jeff Lee Sin Ket, 39, to one year in prison for assisting in concealing RM314,790 belonging to Ong Boon Ian, 59, an investment company owner, in his bank account at a condominium unit in Bandar Menjalara, Sentul, between Nov 18 and Dec 12 last year.
Separately, before Judge Hamidah Mohamed Deril, he was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for concealing RM173,000 belonging to Chin Lit Teng, 49, a health products company account executive, in his bank account at a condominium unit off Jalan Kuching, Taman Sri Kuching, Sentul, between Nov 7 and Dec 9 last year.

'In Sabah, a pilot project with the Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) will begin on a 300-hectare site in Sinua, Sook,' he said, adding that other potential areas include Kota Marudu, Beaufort and several locations along the main road alignment. 'This is just the beginning. There is huge potential to expand, and we've identified thousands of hectares that can be developed,' he said. The minister also highlighted that the initiative aims to tap not only the domestic market but also the export market, which would boost the added value of agricultural products from both Sabah and Sarawak. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the soft launch of the 4th World Irrigation Forum at the Sabah International Convention Centre here Saturday.

Johor to study Singapore's hawker centre model
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor government will study the management model of wet markets and hawker centres at Geylang Serai Market & Food Centre managed by Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA) with a view to be adapted in the state. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the delegation's visit to the centre provided Johor with an opportunity to closely examine the hawker centre management model that is organised, clean and inclusive. He said the two-storey complex, which houses 302 wet market lots and 63 halal food stalls, serves as an important community centre and a symbol of the cultural heritage of the Malay community in Singapore. 'Among the interesting aspects are controlled rental rates to ensure reasonable food prices to ensure affordable food prices for consumers. 'It is also equipped with a strict hygiene grading system, mandatory training for food operators, as well as enforcement through technology such as closed-circuit television (CCTV), an e-fine system and the use of smart sensors (IoT) for sanitation and crowd monitoring. 'In addition, NEA also manages this centre through a social enterprise model, which is a non-profit operator focused on empowering small traders and maintaining social balance,' he said in a post uploaded on his Facebook page. In this regard, Onn Hafiz said the approach by NEA is considered highly relevant to be studied and adapted in Johor, especially in efforts to transform the management of public markets and hawker centres to be more efficient, sustainable and supportive of the people's economy, especially micro-traders, B40 and small business owners. He stressed that the state government would continue to be committed to studying and translating such best practices into local policies. Four teens freed on bail in Kajang assault case
KUALA LUMPUR: Four 13-year-old students detained over the alleged assault of a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang have been released on police bail today. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the suspects, which was initially extended until tomorrow, was concluded earlier following the completion of documentation and investigative procedures. 'To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals, including the four students,' he said in a statement. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by dissatisfaction among the suspects with the victim's manner of communication and interaction. On July 30, the Form One student lodged a police report alleging classmates beat him at about 11 am at the mall. He later received medical treatment and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. - Bernama
