Punjab: Govt installs new signboards with Mann's image outside rebranded Ayushman Kendras
According to sources, the health department has installed two signboards at each location, with an estimated cost of ₹4,850 per signboard. The purpose, officials say, is to help people easily locate and access the health facilities.
Earlier, the Union ministry of health and family welfare had halted NHM funds to Punjab, citing objections to the state-specific branding of centrally funded clinics. Following the MoU, the Punjab government rebranded 628 out of 881 AACs as Ayushman Arogya Kendras and removed Mann's image from clinic buildings. However, with the installation of these new signboards outside the premises of Ayushman Kendras, the state has reintroduced Mann's image in the public view near the health centres.
A senior health official said, 'The decision has been taken by the state government. Following orders, we have installed directional signboards outside all Ayushman Arogya Kendras and Aam Aadmi Clinics. This will help people locate the health centres.'
Before the Aam Aadmi Party came to power, these centres were known as health and wellness centres under a central government initiative.

Regulators vital to ensure quality in processed foods: Chirag Paswan
Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Wednesday said regulatory authorities like the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have an important role to play in promoting processed food in the country by ensuring adherence to quality standards. The minister was speaking at the curtain raiser for World Food India, being organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India, from September 25 to 28 in New Delhi. 'We continue to believe that only fresh food is good for health,' he said, adding that in times like these—when misleading advertisements and fake narratives are rampant—it is important to dispel untruths about the food processing industry. 'It is believed that if a food product is processed, it has lost nutrition and quality, which needs to change. We are talking about adding value to the food by processing,' he said. 'Our regulatory bodies, like the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, play an important role in ensuring that processed foods reaching the table are not harmful to health.' 'For a farmer-dependent country, food processing can lead to increased incomes for farmers along with creating job opportunities for the country's youth,' he further said. The fourth edition of World Food India 2025 is set to be the largest yet, with participation expected from over 90 countries, more than 2,000 exhibitors, and thousands of stakeholders spanning the entire food value chain from farm to fork. The minister also unveiled the publicity brochure, website, and app for the upcoming event.

New Delhi: The number of vertical (mother-to-child) transmission of HIV has declined by around 84 per cent said Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, in the Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Ms Patel shared several steps taken by the government to enhance HIV/AIDS awareness. "Vertical transmission rate has also declined by around 74.5 per cent between 2010 and 2024 compared to around 56.5 per cent globally in the same reference period," Ms Patel said. Ms Patel noted that National Aids Control Organisation (NACO), a division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, undertakes the responsibility to strengthen the awareness campaign against HIV/AIDs, through comprehensive multimedia campaigns, such as with information kiosks, and folk performances, among others. Digital platforms and social media are also actively leveraged to ensure broader engagement and awareness generation, especially among younger and tech-savvy audiences. Further, NACO rolled out 1,619 projects nationwide to support high-risk HIV populations. "High-risk groups, including female sex workers (FSW), men having sex with Men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), hijra/transgender (TG) individuals, truck drivers, and migrants are specifically addressed through 1,619 targeted intervention projects across the country," Ms Patel said. Self-help groups, anganwadi workers, ASHAs, and members of Panchayati Raj institutions provide training and sensitisation programmes at the grassroots level, fostering community-level awareness and behavioural change.
