'Those children look very hungry': Trump rejects Netanyahu's claim on Gaza starvation

In a rare disagreement with the Israeli leader, US President Donald Trump has rejected the position of Benjamin Netanyahu on starvation in the Gaza Strip.
Trump on Monday said that 'those children look very hungry' about Palestinians in Gaza.
As starvation is rising in Gaza by the day, more and more countries and organisations are joining in the condemnation of the Israeli policy of restricting the supply of food, medicine, and other essentials to Gaza. For months, food has been scarce in Gaza and hundreds of Palestinians have been killed —in what they say to be Israeli fire— while awaiting food at distribution site of US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

When asked in an interaction with the media during his trip to Scotland whether he agreed with Netanyahu on the situation in Gaza, Trump said, 'I don't know. I mean, based on the television, I would say not particularly. Those children look very hungry.'
Speaking beside British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Trump further said that that his 'number one position' regarding Gaza was to 'get people fed' there.
'There are a lot of starving people there,' Trump further said.
Trump said that while the United States had given $60 million, other countries would need to step up. He said that European Union (EU) chief Ursula von der Leyen had assured him that European nations would raise their contribution to Gaza.
Starmer said that that the situation in Gaza was an 'absolute catastrophe'.
'Nobody wants to see that. People in Britain are revolted to see that,' said Starmer, adding that his government was working with Jordan to get supplies airdropped in Gaza.
Netanyahu continues to maintain there's no starvation in Gaza
Even as global condemnation rises by the day, Netanyahu has continued to maintain that there is no starvation in Gaza. He has called it a 'bold faced lie'.
'There is no policy of starvation in Gaza and there is no starvation in Gaza,' Netanyahu further said on Sunday.
In sharp contrast to Netanyahu, the United Nations (UN) has maintained that around one in five children in Gaza Strip are now acutely malnourished and at least 63 people have died from malnutrition in July alone.

The UN has said that the hunger crisis in Gaza is 'entirely preventable' and accused Israel of the 'deliberate blocking and delay of large-scale food, health and humanitarian aid'.

While addressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly, David made an emotional appeal, saying that he feels that he has been abandoned. 'I feel that I have been abandoned... I've been told that in Israel, the government cares for prisoners and cares for anyone imprisoned by the enemy. I feel that I have been abandoned by you and this government,' he said. Iran's IRGC slams efforts for two-state solution to Israel-Palestine conflict, condemns killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
Tehran, Aug 2 (UNI) Iran's powerful paramilitary group – the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – has slammed efforts to promote a two-state solution for the decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict, a few days after a UN conference co-chaired by Saudi Arabi pushed for the solution. 'These satanic efforts are prescribing a two-state solution to end the Palestinian issue,' the IRGC said in a statement, marking the first anniversary of the Israeli killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. 'But the resistance remains firm on the path of martyr Haniyeh and others,' reports Iran International. Stating that the solution lies not in compromise but active resistance, the IRGC, quoting a Hamas slogan attributed to Haniyeh declared 'We don't recognise Israel – never, never, never.' A two-state solution was discussed in a UN session in New York from July 28-30, 2025, aimed at resolving the conflict. The conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, aimed to revitalise efforts towards a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, with a focus on achieving a just and lasting peace. However, Iran's long-held position on the matter refuses to recognise any form of compromise on the issue, and has called for the creation of a sovereign Palestine from the ashes of Israel. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had called for the total destruction of the Jewish state within 25 years back in 2015. The IRGC's statement described Tel Aviv's war with Hamas in Gaza as a full-fledged genocide, claiming that it was carried out with the broader aim of seizing the strategic and resource-rich regions of the Islamic world. 'Those who engineered the genocide in Gaza are undoubtedly pursuing larger goals—the swallowing of the Muslim world's rich and strategic regions,' it said. 'But with God's help, the breaking of global silence and the surge of anti-Zionist international protest will shatter the hopes and ambitions of the Zionist-American criminal band, which must now await the unmasking of its hidden fate.' It also condemned the killing of Haniyeh in Tehran, which occurred while he was in the city for Iran's presidential inauguration. Air India crash: UK families await update on DNA-matched remains
LONDON: British families, waiting for the remains of relatives aboard the London-bound Air India 171 plane that crashed soon after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport, are expecting confirmation on DNA matches after high-level India-UK government talks, their legal team has said. Keystone Law, which has been working with aviation experts to assist many of the families who lost loved ones in the June 12 crash, called for urgency in the process this week. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's UK visit last week, Downing Street had confirmed that Prime Minister Keir Starmer had discussed the Air India plane crash during their bilateral talks against the backdrop of UK media reports of mislabelling of some remains repatriated to Britain. "The UK and Indian governments have held high-level talks, as a result of the international media coverage of this problem," said James Healy-Pratt, Aviation Partner at Keystone Law. "It is believed that some matched DNA remains may now have been located in India. Confirmation is awaited," he said. The 241 passengers and crew who died in the disaster included 52 British nationals, with two out of 12 caskets repatriated to the UK for last rites found to be incorrectly identified. The ministry of external affairs (MEA) had responded to the UK reports to stress that "all mortal remains were handled with utmost professionalism and with due regard for the dignity of the deceased". "We are continuing to work with the UK authorities on addressing any concerns related to this issue," the MEA's official spokesperson said in a statement last month. Asked to estimate the scale of the issue, Keystone Law said of a sample of 12 caskets repatriated from India to the UK, two were "mislabelled, mishandled and misidentified". "Extrapolated out - with an unacceptable error rate of 15 per cent, that would suggest 40 sets of remains may have been mislabelled, mishandled and misidentified. That is a known unknown, and many of the families' loved ones have been cremated already," said Healy-Pratt. Last month, an inquest into the deaths of some of the British passengers was opened and adjourned in London, with the process of identification overseen by the Senior Coroner under UK procedures. It came as a preliminary report by the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) found that fuel to both engines appeared to have cut off shortly after takeoff. The engines tried to restart, but it proved too late to prevent the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft from crashing into Ahmedabad's B.J. Medical College, claiming 19 lives on the ground. Keystone Law called for further clarity about the transitioning of the fuel cutoff switches, and which voice was saying what on the excerpts of the Cockpit Voice Recorder. "The Indian AAIB has this evidence, and has for unexplained reasons not shared this detail with the families of AI 171. The Indian AAIB cannot complain of further speculation when evidence in its possession is not released to the families on a transparent basis," said Healy-Pratt. The aviation lawyer also called for further details around reports of compensation being considered for impacted families by the Tata Group, owners of Air India. Healy-Pratt said: "There is talk of TATA setting up a (Rs) 500 crore fund for all the AI 171 families - which will provide ex gratia support (legally a gift and separate and apart from any Court ordered compensation against Air India, or indeed Boeing) of a minimum of (Rs) 1 crore per loved one lost. "Families deserve to get details of that support urgently, as legal proceedings take time in India, England, and the United States." The UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has "expert status" in the Indian safety investigation and has said it is reviewing the findings of the preliminary report released one month on from the crash, on July 12. The UK-based families who lost loved ones in the crash have previously also called for a mechanism of expert representation in the India-led investigatory process into the plane crash.
