Iraq Calls for Including Support for Palestine, Yemen, and Syria in Arab Parliamentary Union Statement
Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani called on Saturday for discussion and inclusion in the final statement of the Arab Parliamentary Union conference a full paragraph urging support for Palestine, assistance for Yemen, support for Syria, and support for other countries and efforts to address their problems and crises in a manner that achieves the necessary Arab unity.
The media office of the Speaker of Parliament said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani delivered the speech of the Republic of Iraq on the proceedings of the 38th Conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union held in Algeria."
First, I can only express my deep happiness and gratitude for being among you, under the umbrella of the Arab Parliamentary Union, as it holds its 38th conference. Perhaps this happiness is doubled because I am in the midst of my second country, the land that pulsates with heroism and an honorable history, the proud land of Algeria.
Distinguished Guests
Our conference is being held today at a critical and delicate moment in the nation's history, a fateful moment unlike any before it. The organizers have taken note of the critical and acute changes, making them their title and slogan, and rightly so.
Beloved Palestine is groaning with wounds and destruction, proud Gaza is bleeding martyrs, displaced, and starved, Yemen has long since departed from its happiness, Lebanon is riddled with wounds, and sisterly Syria is shaking off the dust of tyranny and destruction, awaiting the aid of its brothers so that it can once again return to them, active and influential... indeed, it will inevitably return.
Today, we are following with deep concern these Arab developments, as well as the regional transformations, which call for a unified Arab stance, a positive vision, and outcomes that express the true meaning of the nation, which carries the meaning of unity and goodness as long as it adheres to the causes of progress and takes pride in its identity.
Since the beginning of the Zionist aggression against Gaza and Palestine, Iraq has been aware of the seriousness of what is happening and what is being planned, and has warned of the consequences of this conflict, which today—given its magnitude and intensity—requires exceptional Arab action to halt the machine of war and destruction, rebuild the land, and restore the rights of its owners.
Just as it firmly believed that we are in one boat, our sorrow and joy, our future and destiny are one, and we are one body. If a person in Gaza complains, the people of Damascus, Sana'a, Algeria, and all Arab countries will rush to their aid and assistance.
In order for our meeting to have a greater impact on the scene and to produce practical measures awaited by all members of our nation, I invite you to discuss and include in the final statement a full paragraph supporting Palestine, Yemen, Syria, and other countries, and supporting and working to address their problems and crises in a manner that achieves the necessary Arab unity. Thank you for listening. We wish the conference every success. May God's peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you.

After global recognition: Iran's IRGC rejects two-state solution
Shafaq News – Tehran Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday dismissed the two-state solution as a 'devilish conspiracy,' reaffirming its rejection of any proposal recognizing Israel's legitimacy. The concept envisions a sovereign Palestinian state established alongside Israel, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital—an idea backed by much of the international and Arabic communities. In its statement, the IRGC marked the anniversary of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran, blaming Israel and vowing that 'hidden capacities' within the Axis of Resistance (a coalition of Iran-backed armed groups) would ensure the eventual collapse of the 'Zionist regime.' The group also praised the October 7 Al-Aqsa Flood operation as a lasting model for armed resistance and quoted Hamas's pledge to 'never ever recognize Israel.' Global momentum behind a negotiated two-state plan has grown in recent days. Over 125 countries endorsed the 'New York Declaration,' a Saudi-French initiative calling for a phased roadmap to Palestinian statehood alongside Israeli security guarantees. It outlines a ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the transfer of governance to the Palestinian Authority. Support for the plan has come from major Western powers, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who have all urged a diplomatic resolution, while emphasizing the importance of "safeguarding Israeli interests." Although Hamas maintains its opposition to Israel's existence, some Palestinian factions have hinted at a willingness to accept a state within the 1967 borders. The Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, continues to push for a two-state framework rooted in UN resolutions. Israeli officials, however, have rejected the latest proposal outright, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition arguing that Palestinian statehood "threatens national security" and that any solution must exclude groups "unwilling to disarm or recognize Israel."

Al-Sudani held on Saturday three meetings with groups of tribal sheikhs and dignitaries from Tikrit, Al-Awja, Al-Dour, Baiji, and Al-Sharqat, as well as other districts and sub-districts in Salah Al-Din Province. The meetings took place at the guesthouse of Member of the Parliament Haitham Al-Zahwan, in the presence of Provincial MP Zuhair Muhammed Al-Zahwan, Sheikh Hatem Abdul Karim Al-Nada, and Sheikh Yasser Shukr Mahal. These meetings were part of the PM's visit to the province to follow up on, inaugurate, and launch several service projects, according to a statement by the PM's Media Office - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA. The discussions focused on the social, economic, and service-related conditions in the province, in light of the ongoing implementation of projects across various sectors aimed at delivering essential services to citizens, as pledged in the government's program and its core priorities. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that "the government has adopted a comprehensive path of reconstruction, development, and progress, placing it at the top of its agenda from day one. This stems from the government's fundamental responsibility to implement these commitments across all sectors, based on the five priorities of the government program." "Iraq is witnessing a new reality and is moving toward a better future through strategic projects, chief among them the Development Road Project. Despite the government's relatively short tenure, it has laid solid foundations for building a state endowed with resources and capabilities that ensure a dignified life for all Iraqis," he highlighted. Key highlights from the PM's remarks included that, "Our efforts continue from Basra to Mosul, guided by a national, legal, and moral responsibility to treat all Iraqis equally. Salah Al-Din is a promising province with the potential to thrive in oil, agricultural, and commercial industries due to its strategic location. We will soon announce new infrastructure projects in Al-Dour District, followed by a visit to Samarra to unveil the largest infrastructure project. We will also visit Balad and Dujail districts. A new bridge project will be announced in Tikrit, along with a water project that complements Beiji Water Project, which was launched today. Relevant ministries will be directed to begin implementing project procedures. Salah Al-Din is one of the leading provinces in agriculture. The third batch of entitlements for farmers will be disbursed this week." "Economic reform has been a central focus across all sectors. Continued dependence on oil is no longer viable. Our people are united through brotherhood and social cohesion. Our tribes in the south, center, and north form one unified social entity," he added. The remarks included, "What is happening in Gaza is a genocide not only by weapons of war but also through starvation, amid the absence of a decisive international response. Wisdom and responsibility require safeguarding the country's higher interests while maintaining our principled stance in rejecting aggression and supporting humanitarian relief efforts." "Iraq's national interest comes above all else. This is evident in the support of the Supreme Religious Authority, our honorable tribes, and national political forces. The electoral process will proceed as scheduled, not due to any emergency or foreign pressure, but in line with the principle of peaceful transfer of power," Al-Sudani underscored. The Prime Minister pointed out that "The government is committed to fulfilling all requirements to conduct the elections on time, and to ensuring a secure and stable environment for both voters and candidates."
