Prime Video fans urged to rediscover 'best movie of 2023 beside John Wick'
Prime Video has just added what some are hailing as the best movie released in 2023, 'besides John Wick'.
The Flash has recently been included into the streaming library of the retail behemoth, allowing fans to revisit one of the most discussed titles in the DC extended universe before filmmaker James Gunn revamps the comic book publisher's cinematic catalogue with the forthcoming Superman film.
First hitting cinemas back in 2023, The Flash was among the last DCEU films to be released, followed by Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The film sees Ezra Miller reprising their role as The Flash, whose real name is Barry Allen. Allen travels back in time to alter distressing events from his past, but this results in a world devoid of superheroes.
Miller isn't the only one returning to a familiar role; they previously portrayed The Flash in Batman v Superman and Justice League. Notably, Michael Keaton reprises his role as Bruce Wayne AKA Batman, a character he last embodied in 1992's Batman Returns, reports Surrey Live.
There are also other surprise cameos and appearances tucked away for fans to uncover.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, The Flash ranks within the top ten highest-rated DCEU films out of 17 titles, boasting a score of 63%. However, many fans hold it in higher regard than its rating suggests, believing it exceeded the expectations typically associated with DC movies.
One enthusiast gushed over the highly anticipated movie The Flash, claiming: "The highly anticipated Flash movie delivers an electrifying experience that combines jaw-dropping action sequences, mind-bending time travel, and unexpected twists that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. This thrilling superhero adventure explores the consequences of tampering with time and introduces us to a new reality where the fate of the world hangs in the balance."
Another fan excitedly remarked: "A mix between the fun and wonder of Richard Donner's Superman films and Back to the Future. Director Andy Muchietti showed us with It that he knows how to get the character development and emotional weight needed to get the action to matter. He has made lightning strike again. You get the right balance of laughs, tears, and edge-of-your-seat action. Plus the proper amount of fan service Easter eggs."
This aficionado went on to explain the reasons behind the film being a delightful surprise for followers. They continued: "For comic book fans, this is a perfect live-action adaptation of the classic Flashpoint storyline. It's not as dark but considering the corner they were backed into by which characters they could use etc, they did a great job of capturing the important parts of the story and translating it to the big screen. Equally, anyone can walk into this film without seeing any other film within the canon or adjacent. It is essentially a self-contained story. Tim Burton Batman fans also get the sequel they deserve."
One viewer proposed: "This is probably the best DC movie in a while, and definitely the best one in this universe."
Another concurred: "Best super hero movie of this decade. Love the CGI, action scenes and Batman really played his roles fantastically."
In the meantime, lavishing it with accolades, a fan declared: "I think besides John Wick this is the best movie of 2023. I loved every second of it and it did not in any way feel two and a half hours long."

Prime Video's The Assassin star Gerald Kyd looks totally different after soap role
The Assassin arrives on Prime Video tonight, with Keeley Hawes starring as a hitwoman whose cushy retirement in Greece is interrupted by her estranged son's arrival Keeley Hawes returns to our screens tonight in Prime Video's new crime thriller The Assassin - a six-part series about retired hitwoman Julie, who reunites with her estranged son. Written by Fleabag 's Harry and Jack Williams, the series sees Julie face up to the past as her son arrives seeking answers about his father. The Assassin features a number of established British stars - from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's Freddie Highmore to Line of Duty's Shalom Brune-Franklin. However, there's one particular character that may make viewers do a double take. Greek-Scottish actor Gerald Kyd takes on the role of Luka - a villager who sticks with Julie after surviving a local massacre. However, soap fans may recognise Gerald from his stint in BBC One's Casualty. The actor took on the role of Sean Maddox in the medical drama from 1998 until 2000, marking one of his first-ever acting roles. Sean was best known on the soap for striking up a romance with nurse Tina Seabrook (Claire Goose), before having an affair with her best friend Chloe (Jan Anderson) and impregnating her. After leaving Casualty, Gerald took on roles in Brief Encounters, Sherlock, Silent Witness, Unforgotten, Doctor Who and more recently, The Split and Malory Towers. Speaking ahead of the show's release, star Keeley revealed that she was left "shocked" by one particular detail in The Assassin. "[In] a show like this, you need to keep the humour, otherwise it would all become very serious very quickly," she said. But opening up about how deadly the show proves to be for some characters, she said: "I was quite shocked at the body count... I kept thinking, 'That'll probably be pulled back', as these things sometimes are. "You read the scripts, it's a great idea, reads really well, and then the closer you get to it, the body count gets smaller. You have to embrace that. We have to see the human cost of that and that's important so it's not just literally ticking off bodies, and later on that does become a big part of the storyline, the human cost of the tragedy we see at the beginning." While creators Harry and Jack added: "We lost count of the body count, which is a new one. It's called The Assassin, people are going to die. "It's always fun, particularly the opening, there's a long shot. [Julie's] got to kill a lot of people, that just felt right for this kind of show."
