BLUE BEETLE Star Xolo Maridueña Gives Update on the Future of His Character in the DCU — GeekTyrant

One of the few actors that James Gunn was willing to bring over from the previous DC film universe was Xolo Maridueña, who portrayed Blue Beetle in 2023. This film featured the first live-action Latin superhero to headline his own major studio film, and it was a lot of fun! The movie didn't take itself as seriously as many of the DC flops that came before it, and Maridueña gave a great performance. But we don't know when we will see him back in live-action. Last year, Warner Bros. announced that Blue Beetle would be getting an animated series, so the character does have something in the works, but we would still like to know how he will fit in Gunn's DCU. Maridueña gave an update on both fronts during recent appearances promoting the Smurfs movie, in which he is playing Brainy Smurf. In an interview with ScreenRant, the actor said of the animated show: "The universe is cracked open. Pandora's Box is open, for lack of a better word. I love the animation medium. I love getting to continue to explore and try my best to fit this character. Having already done Blue Beetle, I know the character and know the voice now. I'm excited to see him in the actual format of animation, and to see what stories we can tell that we can't tell in live-action... I'm excited to see how Blue Beetle fits in." Maridueña also spoke with a YouTube personality (via CBM) while making the interview rounds, where he again touched on the future of Blue Beetle: "James Gunn, Peter Safran, John Rickard- everybody over at DCU has been so kind in welcoming into the DCU. They just had a really awesome release, and I'm really excited that this is an awesome first step in the direction of opening up that universe," said Maridueña, referencing Superman's opening weekend domestic release. He continued: "We've got some animated stuff, some live-action stuff- a whole bunch of areas that Blue Beetle and the greater Reyes family can join in, so I'm blessed. I'm just hoping that it can be with Ángel Manuel Soto- that's my guy." We will just have to wait and see what happens with the character, but at least we know he's in the mix and his future is being considered at DC.

"Practical Magic 2" Adds Xolo Maridueña and Solly Mcleod to Cast

Yara Sameh Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle) and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don't Hurt) are set to return for "Practical Magic 2", Warner Bros. Pictures' sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Oscar winner Dianne Wiest and Oscar nominee Stockard Channing are set to reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, the eccentric and wise matriarchs who took in witch sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) following the death of their parents and taught them everything they know about magic, mischief, and self-reliance. Production on the sequel is now underway, with Bullock and Kidman returning. Joey King has now locked down the role of Sally's daughter, after being tipped as being in talks. Rounding out the cast, are Lee Pace (Foundation) and Maisie Williams (The New Look). Character details for the newcomers are under wraps, as is the plot of the sequel, to be released in theaters worldwide on September 18, 2026. First announced last summer, the follow-up is being directed by Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple, Bird Box). Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film, has returned to write the script with Georgia Pritchett (Succession). Bullock and Kidman are producing alongside the original film's Denise Di Novi. In a statement on the castings, the Practical Magic filmmaking team said, 'Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman's beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story. The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens' story to new fans, and those who've been with us since the beginning.' Directed by Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic adapted the 1995 novel from Alice Hoffman. The story introduces Sally and Gillian Owens as sisters who come from a long line of witches. Raised by their eccentric aunts in a magical household, they must confront a deadly curse and their own powers when love and danger collide. The original film grossed over $68M worldwide. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Prime Video fans urged to rediscover 'best movie of 2023 beside John Wick'

Fans also say it is one of the best films in a packed genre Prime Video has just added what some are hailing as the best movie released in 2023, 'besides John Wick'. The Flash has recently been included into the streaming library of the retail behemoth, allowing fans to revisit one of the most discussed titles in the DC extended universe before filmmaker James Gunn revamps the comic book publisher's cinematic catalogue with the forthcoming Superman film. ‌ First hitting cinemas back in 2023, The Flash was among the last DCEU films to be released, followed by Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. ‌ The film sees Ezra Miller reprising their role as The Flash, whose real name is Barry Allen. Allen travels back in time to alter distressing events from his past, but this results in a world devoid of superheroes. Miller isn't the only one returning to a familiar role; they previously portrayed The Flash in Batman v Superman and Justice League. Notably, Michael Keaton reprises his role as Bruce Wayne AKA Batman, a character he last embodied in 1992's Batman Returns, reports Surrey Live. There are also other surprise cameos and appearances tucked away for fans to uncover. According to Rotten Tomatoes, The Flash ranks within the top ten highest-rated DCEU films out of 17 titles, boasting a score of 63%. However, many fans hold it in higher regard than its rating suggests, believing it exceeded the expectations typically associated with DC movies. ‌ One enthusiast gushed over the highly anticipated movie The Flash, claiming: "The highly anticipated Flash movie delivers an electrifying experience that combines jaw-dropping action sequences, mind-bending time travel, and unexpected twists that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. This thrilling superhero adventure explores the consequences of tampering with time and introduces us to a new reality where the fate of the world hangs in the balance." Another fan excitedly remarked: "A mix between the fun and wonder of Richard Donner's Superman films and Back to the Future. Director Andy Muchietti showed us with It that he knows how to get the character development and emotional weight needed to get the action to matter. He has made lightning strike again. You get the right balance of laughs, tears, and edge-of-your-seat action. Plus the proper amount of fan service Easter eggs." This aficionado went on to explain the reasons behind the film being a delightful surprise for followers. They continued: "For comic book fans, this is a perfect live-action adaptation of the classic Flashpoint storyline. It's not as dark but considering the corner they were backed into by which characters they could use etc, they did a great job of capturing the important parts of the story and translating it to the big screen. Equally, anyone can walk into this film without seeing any other film within the canon or adjacent. It is essentially a self-contained story. Tim Burton Batman fans also get the sequel they deserve." ‌ One viewer proposed: "This is probably the best DC movie in a while, and definitely the best one in this universe." Another concurred: "Best super hero movie of this decade. Love the CGI, action scenes and Batman really played his roles fantastically." In the meantime, lavishing it with accolades, a fan declared: "I think besides John Wick this is the best movie of 2023. I loved every second of it and it did not in any way feel two and a half hours long."
