Jason Manford's 'heart-stopping moment' after health scare
Jason Manford has suffered a "heart-stopping moment" as he gets set to join his family on holiday following his recent health concerns. The comedian was forced to cancel a number of shows last-minute last week, causing concern among fans.
He later revealed he had needed surgery to have his appendix removed. The issue initially meant he was unable to carry out four scheduled shows - and also stopped him flying out on holiday with his family.
However, the father-of-six had other ideas and set about created a new travel itinerary so he could get to Portugal for the family getaway without flying.
In his latest update, Jason has revealed he took a ferry to Bilbao for the opening leg of his 33-hour journey. Speaking from his vehicle, Jason told his followers on Twitter /X: "We got pulled into the side and the van searched and whatnot."
Speaking to his friend, he explained they were "looking at my padel rackets". Due to having his kids' rackets too, Jason joked: "I think he thought I was reselling them."
He added: "But the most worrying bit is when he went 'what's in there' which is like a box of stuff from Will Powders. And then opened this bag of collagen peptide which, let me show you, my heart was in my mouth."
Chuckling while opening the product, Jason said: "It's literally a bag of white powder." He then joked: "Got away with it though," as he sarcastically gave an evil laugh.
Jason has kept fans updated with his journey and health scare following last week's cancellations. Following the confirmation on Thursday that three more shows were to be cancelled, he took to social media to share an image of himself in a hospital bed.
Jason wrote: "Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals. Bit of a scary & extremely painful 24 hours but thankful to our NHS & my incredible nurse mum who's a godsend in a health crisis!"
He followed it with a tongue-in-cheek piece of "advice" to his followers. He said: "My advice would be to not get Appendicitis whilst driving at 70mph on the motorway!
"Seriously though, I'm gutted that I've had to move the dates this weekend, and I'm sorry for the late notice to so many people in St Albans, Oxford, Lincoln, Skegness & at Kendall Calling.
"I thought I could get by on antibiotics and surgery at a later date so I could still do the shows, but was advised not to. Also means I can't fly out to Portugal on Monday to join my family on holiday! Ah well, such is life. Thanks for all the 'Get Well Soon' messages."
While three of his four cancelled gigs are to be rescheduled, comedian pal John Bishop stepped in to take his spot at Kendall Calling.

Aquaman star Jason Momoa admits he gave up smoking after near-death experience
Film star Jason Momoa, famous for his role in the Aquaman superhero movie, has revealed that he experienced a near-death experience while out surfing in the Hawaiian sea Hollywood star Jason Momoa has spoken of a near-death experience at sea - and said it made him quit smoking. The beefcake actor is famous for his role in the Aquaman superhero movies battling to rule the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. But Jason said he faced his own trouble in the ocean with a fight for life when he was surfing in his native Hawaii with three pals. He revealed: "We paddled 13 miles down the coast and you're kind of almost a mile offshore. We're about seven miles into it and my leash snapped. And it's so windy on Maui and so the board just went, I couldn't even see it anymore." It comes after Taylor Swift sparks engagement rumours as fans spot Travis Kelce's lock screen. Jason, 46, said he was being battered by 10-foot waves crashing down on his head in a notoriously dangerous part of the water surfers dub "s***f***s". He continued: "It pulls you out and you just get hit with these waves. "So I was stuck in this crazy spot and unknown to me I was really on the outer reef and they couldn't see me. I had my paddle and I was waving it and they couldn't see me. "And the waves were so big, it basically took my shorts off it was so f***ing big. I was out there for a while and then I just couldn't see anyone coming to get me. And I couldn't move anymore and my arms and my legs gave up after, you know, I was out there for a while." Jason said he was thinking of his baby daughter, who was just three-months-old at the time, when his friend Larry Hamilton came to his aid. He explained: "He came from behind and I had already given up. My body stopped, like, I couldn't move my arms anymore and I bubbled down. "And then my toe hit the outer reef. Like, I literally gave up and I'm screaming inside and my foot just hits the outer reef. And I don't know if it was a f***ing whale or like it just could have been one rock. But I just reached down, grab it. I jump up. "I get hit by another wave and I dig my feet into the coral. And I'm literally in the middle of the ocean. And I'm just... I could barely put my lips above just to breathe and get a break. But I had already given up. So it's like you've already given up and died and have a second chance at it. "Then I still stayed out there for like 10 minutes. I was hanging on the side of this reef. And I hear Larry come from behind and he's on my board towing his board. And I get on and he's like, 'Are you alright? I'm like, 'No.' I remember seeing him, but I was 10 minutes dead already." Jason admitted to the SmartLess podcast that his fear that he was going to die was so great that he prayed to his ancestors. He also told the hosts - fellow actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett - that the scare prompted him to quit smoking. The Game of Thrones actor said: "I have seven more miles to paddle. My feet are covered in blood. And I'm just literally looking for my ancestors just paddling the rest of this way, head down and we get out. "I do believe in my ancestors. I prayed to my grandmother and my grandfather. I was reaching and I was in a bad position and if you're stuck out there in that kind of waves with no board, you're f***ed and there's just no way to swim in. I don't have that. So it was a bad spot to be in. "And I mean, I could have been trolling, there could be sharks everywhere, but I'm just like trolling this whole f***ing coast. I used to smoke and I used to smoke like two, three packs a day. I couldn't stop for my kids, I couldn't stop for my ex. I couldn't stop smoking. "And the moment I came out, I never smoked again. Like, I just died. Like I tried and tried, but like I couldn't do it again because I just, I gave up. Like, I gave up my life." *The SmartLess podcast interview with Jason Momoa is on general release from August 11.

What is acute myocardial infarction as Ozzy Osbourne's cause of death confirmed
The Black Sabbath singer died last month shortly after his farewell gig and wedding anniversary to wife Sharon Ozzy Osbourne's death has been confirmed as stated in his death certificate. The Black Sabbath lead singer died last month at the age of 76. A message from his family at that time said: "It is with a sadness that goes beyond words that we must announce the passing of our dear Ozzy Osbourne this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time." In what would become his final gig, the 'Paranoid' singer took to the stage at Villa Park on July 5 for a Back to the Beginning farewell concert. While sat on a large black throne, he told fans: "It's so good to be on this stage. You have no idea. I love you all. Let me see your hands in the air." He added: "You are the best, each and every one of you. God bless you all. I don't know what to say, man. You've no idea how I feel - thank you from the bottom of my heart." Osbourne was buried beside the lake at his home in Buckinghamshire last week. Osbourne's death certificate states that he died from 'acute myocardial infarction' and 'out-of-hospital cardiac arrest'. The certificate also mentions coronary artery disease and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction as 'joint causes'. Ozzy's occupation was listed as 'songwriter, performer and rock legend'. The certificate indicates that Osbourne passed away due to "(a) cardiac arrest outside the hospital (b) acute myocardial infarction (c) coronary artery disease along with Parkinson's disease and autonomic dysfunction (Joint Causes)." The New York Times got hold of the document on Tuesday (August 5). What is acute myocardial infarction? Acute myocardial infarction, or heart attack, is a critical medical emergency where the heart muscle gets damaged or dies because of a sudden blockage in a coronary artery. This blockage, usually caused by a blood clot, cuts off oxygen to the heart tissue, resulting in necrosis (cell death). When blood flow is interrupted, heart muscle cells die (myocardial necrosis). The NHS says: "A heart attack (myocardial infarction or MI) is a serious medical emergency in which the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked, usually by a blood clot. A heart attack is a medical emergency. Call 999 and ask for an ambulance if you suspect a heart attack. A lack of blood to the heart may seriously damage the heart muscle and can be life threatening." Acute myocardial infarction is a serious issue that needs immediate medical help. Common symptoms include chest pain or discomfort that may spread to the arm, neck, jaw, or back. Other symptoms can be shortness of breath, nausea, sweating, and dizziness. To diagnose it, doctors look at symptoms, do an electrocardiogram (ECG), and check cardiac biomarkers (like troponin). Treatment aims to restore blood flow to the heart muscle, often using reperfusion therapy (like angioplasty or fibrinolytic drugs). What can cause a heart attack? Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the top reason for heart attacks. It's a condition where the main blood vessels (coronary arteries) that feed the heart muscle get blocked by a buildup of fatty deposits, called plaques. Before a heart attack happens, one of these plaques can burst (rupture), leading to a blood clot forming at the rupture site. This clot can obstruct blood flow to the heart, which can cause a heart attack. There are some steps you can take to reduce your risk of having a heart attack (or having another heart attack): smokers should quit smoking lose weight if you're overweight or obese do regular exercise – adults should do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week, unless advised otherwise by the doctor in charge of your care eat a low-fat, high-fibre diet, including wholegrains and at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day moderate your alcohol consumption What is autonomic dysfunction? Autonomic dysfunction, or dysautonomia, is a condition where the autonomic nervous system (ANS) doesn't function properly. This system is responsible for managing automatic bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and temperature regulation. When the ANS is not working right, it can cause a range of symptoms. Symptoms can differ greatly based on which part of the ANS is impacted and what the root cause is. Some typical symptoms are: Dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting (syncope), fluctuating heart rate, chest pain, and changes in blood pressure. Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, and stomach pain. Difficulty with bladder control, urinary retention, or frequent urination. Excessive sweating, or lack of sweating, and problems maintaining body temperature. Fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive changes (difficulty concentrating, memory problems), and visual disturbances. What causes autonomic dysfunction? Conditions like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis can sometimes affect the ANS. Viral infections like COVID-19 can trigger dysautonomia in some people, according to the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Conditions like Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, and diabetic neuropathy can affect the ANS. Certain medications can have side effects that impact the ANS. Some rare genetic conditions can cause autonomic dysfunction. When was Ozzy Osbourne diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease? Osbourne found out he had Parkinson's disease in February 2019. He shared the news with everyone in January 2020, following a year of dealing with speculation about his health. The three primary symptoms include involuntary shaking, slow movements, and muscles that are stiff and inflexible. People with Parkinson's may also face a variety of other physical and mental symptoms, such as depression and anxiety, issues with balance, a diminished sense of smell, sleep disturbances, and memory challenges. Parkinson's disease results from the loss of nerve cells in a specific area of the brain known as the substantia nigra. The exact cause remains uncertain, but most specialists believe it stems from a mix of genetic and environmental influences. While there is no definitive cure at this time, treatments like medication and physiotherapy can alleviate the primary symptoms. Thanks to advancements in treatment, many people with Parkinson's can now expect a normal or nearly normal life span.

has recalled the heart-stopping moment he was stopped at customs for carrying a bag of collagen through customs in Bilbao, Spain on Tuesday. The comedian, 44, joked he was 'nearly chucked in jail' when the bag of white powder raised concern to custom officers. Jason left fans in stitches as he explained the petrifying ordeal in a video on X once he passed through customs. He said: 'I've just come off the ferry in Bilbao and we got pulled into the side, the van searched and what not. 'The most worrying bit was when he [customs officer] went "What's in there?" [pointing to the collegen] which is like a box of stuff from Will Powders. 'And then opened this bag of collagen peptides which let me show you... My heart was in my mouth, it's literally a massive bag of white power.' 'Phew! Got away with it though', he quipped. Jason captioned his post: 'Heart-stopping moment at customs in Bilbao! Nearly chucked in jail over some @willpowders collagen! phew!' Fans wrote in the comments: 'You lead an exciting life [laughing face emojis]', 'More material to bank for the next tour', 'You could write your whole next tour just off this week xx', 'I travel with my willpowders collagen too. To make it worse, I have the big measuring spoon in the bag too. I always hold my breath in security expecting to be pulled to one side'. Jason gave a health update alongside a defiant message after undergoing surgery and cancelling four shows on Monday. He was due to take to stage for his A Manford All Seasons tour in Hertfordshire on Thursday before it was announced he was 'too unwell', with the star going on to cancel a further three shows. He later revealed he had developed appendicitis - which is when the organ swells, causing severe pain and in most cases, surgeons remove the appendix. Jason left fans in stitches as he explained the petrifying ordeal in a video on X once he passed through customs And taking to his Instagram on Sunday, Jason had seemingly recovered well as he revealed he was out of hospital and heading on holiday. The TV personality also defiantly declared that he'll 'not be defeated' while informing fans of the major travel alterations he's had to make amid his illness. Sharing a snap of himself reclining on a bed in a ferry cabin, Jason penned: 'I will not be defeated! I'm going on holiday! Might not be able to fly to Portugal but what about this ferry! On it. ⛴️ it's only 33 hours.' His post was met with plenty of messages from fans expressing their joy that he was on the mend. Meanwhile, last week Jason was sweetly supported by his parents as they sat by his bedside after he underwent appendix surgery. He gave fans an update as he took to Instagram to share a sweet photograph of his parents Sharon and Ian paying him a visit in hospital. 'Mum & dad come to look after me for the night! Rest of the family away and they didn't want by myself,' he wrote in a caption. Always their baby no matter how old ya get!' John Bishop stepped in to replace Jason at the Kendal Calling festival on Sunday, with the Liverpudlian comedian, 58, uploading a humorous announcement video that was shared to Jason's page. He was due to take to stage for his A Manford All Seasons tour in Hertfordshire on Thursday before it was announced he was 'too unwell', with it later being revealed he had appendicitis The TV personality also defiantly declared that he'll 'not be defeated' while informing fans of the major travel alterations he's had to make amid his illness Speaking to the camera, John said: 'The one that can't be cancelled is Kendal Calling on Sunday afternoon. So he's asked me if I'm free and I am, so I'm going to step up and fill Jason's boots.' Jason underwent surgery following a 'scary' 24 hours, revealing he first came down with symptoms while driving at 70mph down the motorway. He shared on Instagram: 'Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals. 'Bit of a scary & extremely painful 24 hours but thankful to our NHS & my incredible nurse mum who's a godsend in a health crisis! 'My advice would be to not get Appendicitis whilst driving at 70mph on the motorway!' Jason shared his disappointment about not being able to make his upcoming shows and thanked fans for their support. 'Seriously though, I'm gutted that I've had to move the dates this weekend, and I'm sorry for the late notice to so many people in St Albans, Oxford, Lincoln, Skegness & at Kendall Calling,' he added. 'I thought I could get by on antibiotics and surgery at a later date so I could still do the shows, but was advised not to. Sharing a health update on Instagram on Friday, Jason penned: 'Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals' 'Also means I can't fly out to Portugal on Monday to join my family on holiday! Ah well, such is life. Thanks for all the ''Get Well Soon'' messages.' Earlier on Thursday, it was confirmed that Jason would not be performing in Hertfordshire due to ill health. An initial post read: 'We regret to inform you that tonight's performance of A Manford All Seasons @albanarena has been unexpectedly cancelled due to Jason Manford being unwell and will now be rescheduled to Mon 20th Oct 2025. 'Thank you for understanding, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.' In another statement shared to X, a further three shows in Oxford, Lincoln and Skegness were also scrapped and rescheduled for later this year and early 2026. 'We regret to inform you that the following performances of A Manford All Seasons have been unexpectedly cancelled due to Jason Manford being unwell,' it added. 'Oxford, New Theatre. Lincoln, The Engine Shed. Skegness, Embassy Hall. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.' WHAT IS APPENDICITIS? Appendicitis is a swelling of the appendix, a two to four-inch-long organ connected to the large intestine. Appendicitis can cause severe pain and it's important for it to be treated swiftly in case the appendix bursts, which can cause life-threatening illness. In most cases surgeons will remove the appendix in an appendectomy – scientists aren't sure why people need an appendix but removing it does not harm people. The causes of appendicitis aren't clear but it is thought to be caused by something blocking the entrance to the organ. Symptoms include pain in the stomach which later travels to your lower right-hand-side and becomes severe. Pressing on this area, coughing, or walking can all make the pain worse, and other symptoms can be nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhoea and a fever.
