Coimbatore to have a premier recreation destination soon
Announced in 2010 by then chief minister M Karunanidhi, the park is now set to be inaugurated by chief minister M K Stalin on August 15, if everything goes well. It was Stalin who laid the foundation stone for the project in December 2023.
Work on the project is progressing at a brisk pace on the land that earlier housed the central prison at Gandhipuram. According to official sources, 85% of the work has been completed.
The state govt was earlier planning to open the park in June this year.
However, it was delayed because of the changes in the design to accommodate more adventure facilities, which are expected to boost the number of visitors.
According to an official source, the zipline and Ferries wheel would be set up under the public-private partnership on a build, operate and transfer model.
A senior corporation official said the city folk could now experience a realistic rainforest journey at the park.
The rainforest would feature native species.
The semmozhi park would also house a convention centre, selfie spots for visitors, open-air gym, botanical garden featuring 219 endangered species of plants and trees mentioned in Sangam literature, and a herbal garden with 2,500 traditional trees of TN and medicinal plants.
Another highlight is terracotta murals designed by the artist who did the job for the semmozhi park in Chennai.
While the terracotta murals are ready, they are yet to be installed as work on the footpath is still pending.
When contacted, city corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran said now that work on the pipeline connecting the Ukkadam sewage treatment plant to get treated work was over, the project was being implemented at a brisk pace. "We are inspecting the work at regular intervals to ensure quality as well. Semmozhi park is poised to become a premier destination in Coimbatore city, blending ecological richness and recreational facilities.
The park will offer a unique experience for visitors."

Authorities Plan Pre-Registration System For Tourists Visiting Mussoorie in Peak Season
Last Updated: Dehradun administration plans a pre-registration system to manage Mussoorie's peak season traffic. Travellers must register before going to the hill station. To manage the unmanageable crowd and bottleneck traffic situation during peak travel season in Mussoorie, the Dehradun administration is mulling over to implement a pre-registration system. As per a report by Times of India, after this system is launched, travellers who fail to register would not be allowed to enter the hill station from the checkpoints. The step is being taken after considering the massive footfall that doubled between 2022 and 2024. An official was cited by TOI as saying that the pre-registration system is only for the peak season to tackle to long traffic jams. Cameras will be installed at three entry points- Kempty Fall and Kuthal gate. The tourism department officials held a meeting on Friday to discuss the implementation of this system. The pre-registration would be done through details like contact number, vehicle detail, number of travellers and more. The registration will be OTP based which will be sent to the registered mobile number. After the registration is complete, a QR code would be generated and vehicles entering Mussoorie will have to show the QR code to enter. The vehicles will be screened through Automated Number Plate Recognition systems, and tourists without a valid QR code would not be allowed to enter. A tourist from Delhi died in June this year after being stuck in traffic and failing to reach hospital care. First Published: July 06, 2025, 19:02 IST

No rivers, no lakes, yet this place supplies water to millions, 42% of its requirement is fulfilled through…, place is...
With a GDP of $504 billion and a population of just 9.52 million, the United Arab Emirates has secured the top position in the list of the Most Economically Stable Countries. It is economically stable due to its financial infrastructure, high per capita income, and low unemployment. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), located in the arid desert of the Arabian Peninsula, has very low rainfall and high evaporation over the year, making climate conditions extremely harsh. Because of these harsh conditions, the UAE does not have any flowing, permanent rivers that would naturally occur. Instead of rivers, the UAE has wadis, which are dry channels that only exist to carry water temporarily during rainy weather or flash floods. Though wadis are seasonal, they are vital for local biodiversity, and recently they have become popular for eco-tourism. Wadi Shawka in Ras Al Khaimah, a case in point, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The State of Energy Report 2015 states that the UAE currently fulfills 42% of its water requirements from desalination with nearly 70 desalination plants in the UAE. These plants account for 14% of the total global desalination output, making the UAE one of the leading producers of desalinated water in the world. According to the Times of India report, the UAE has been using three desalination technologies: Reverse Osmosis (RO), Multiple-Effect Distillation (MED), and Multi-Stage Flash (MSF). The UAE's last water demand growth was an increase of 35.8% from 2008 to 2012, so sustainable water solutions in the UAE are extremely important. The UAE is now investing in desalination technologies with renewable energy to forge its water future.
