Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen says 'time to finally explain myself' as she sets record straight on 'disgusting and disturbing' video that sparked fan backlash

Daily Mail26-05-2025

Amanda Owen has set the record straight after 'disgusting and disturbing' video of her son Reuben sparked fan backlash on social media.
At the start of May, the shepherdess, 50, shared a clip of her son Reuben, 21, laying on an ewe and lamb while helping her out on Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale, Yorkshire.
The video received a number of negative comments in the comments section and Amanda has decided to speak out about the matter.
Sharing a video of her milking an ewe, alongside some other snaps from lambing season, Amanda said: 'Here we go!!!! More disgusting and disturbing behaviour just for ewe.
'*Obviously we haven't learnt anything, even after being slammed for the ill treatment of these woolly commodities* Time to finally explain myself.
'Amazingly enough it's been a busy couple of months, the physical birth element of lambing time is just a part of the picture.'

The Our Yorkshire Farm star explained that after giving birth the animals can experience some issues.
She continued: 'Post natal care is of utmost importance and consequently feeding issues can sometimes require a sheep to be caught in order to treat the issue.
'They are not particularly good patients but we treat them with care, compassion and as infrequently as possible.
'So far, after a lifetime of shepherding I have never had one willingly saunter over and request help with labour, breast feeding or any other minor ailment.
'Maybe it would be a lot easier to take care of them and handle them if they were all crammed into an industrial shed, not free to exercise and graze the meadows, moors & pastures?????
'But I reckon that we all know that being outside, free to wander and live naturally is a far better way for them.
'Incidentally the person most likely to be injured in the whole process of catching and restraining a sheep is me or even one of the sheepdogs.'
Many rushed to the comments section to share their support.
One said: 'U r amazing.'
'Great job Amanda and your passing all your knowledge and skills onto your children xxx.'
'Well said Amanda. Personally I wouldn't bother trying to explain yourself. These people obviously lack intelligence and can't begin to understand the bigger picture of what's required to keep a herd of sheep healthy and safe. They do say ignorance is bliss so they must live a very blissful life! Keep up the good work and completely side line these sad people with nothing better to do with their time but look for trouble. Love your programme Amanda..'
'You shouldn't have to explain anything.'
'Well said Amanda. I grew up on a sheep farm in the Peak District so do understand. It's when you get people commenting who haven't a clue, best to stay quiet if you have no experience.'
It comes after last week Reuben defiantly hit back at critics after being slammed for the same video.
In the clip, mum-of-nine Amanda can be heard saying: 'Well this is what you've been getting up to in lambing fields,' while Reuben is laying across an ewe and lamb.
He then picks up the ewe by the horns and she tells her son: 'You did great there! And you got the lamb at the same time.'
Amanda captioned the post: 'Caught ewe. Reuben downs tools and springs into action.
'*Everyone lends a hand, there is no one exempt from lambing time tasks*.'
Many rushed to the comments section to share their love with the shepherdess - and told her she shouldn't have to explain
However, many fans were confused by the post and didn't like seeing Reuben handle the ewe as they didn't know what he was actually doing.
Some took to leaving comments including, 'Why are you treating the ewe like that? Absolutely disgusting and I'm disappointed as I thought you were better than that.'
Or, 'I didn't like how you held the sheep! Absolutely disturbing! Animals are treated with respect and not like trash!'
In an interview with The Telegraph, Reuben responded to the online furore and said: 'I don't have the time or the inclination to scroll through social media.'
The young farmer added: 'If you do ever see me on my phone, I'll be searching for machinery sales.'
Some did jump to the 21-year-old's defence however and penned: 'Please ignore comments from any animal activist… if we all listened to them nothing would ever get done and we'd all be starving by now . Carry on farming.'
Another said: 'Kindness is a gift, if you cannot say anything nice please say nothing at all.'
Our Farm Next Door, which premiered last year on More4, follows Amanda and ex-husband Clive, 69, renovating an abandoned farmhouse alongside their kids Raven, 23, Reuben, 21, Miles, 18, Edith, 16, Violet, 14, Sidney, 13, Annas, 11, Clemmy, nine, and Nancy, eight.
Earlier this month Amanda said she is 'suffering sleepless nights' after facing 'daunting and difficult decisions' in the show.
The roof of the derelict property had no slates on it at all, leaving the Owen family starting from scratch to make sure it was warm and dry.
Their builder Richard needed Amanda to decide which slates she wanted, asking, '15 or 16 inch wide?' - and pointing to one , saying: 'What we are thinking is this but we need a decision.'
She appeared completely overwhelmed by indecision, replying: 'Oh no, is it up to me?'
Explaining her decision-making paralysis, she said: 'Trying to get everything all joined up is so difficult. I never realised there was so much planning going into this.
'Richard is brilliant but Richard still has questions that need answering and it's trying to keep everyone happy.
'It's still quite daunting and it still gives me quite a few sleepless nights.'
The builder admitted it was 'quite hard' to put the 'big, heavy slates' on the precarious farmhouse, known as Anty John's and near the Owen family's Ravenseat Farm.
Amanda and Owen split in 2022 after 22 years of marriage.

Inside newly-single Sophie Radford's ‘feral' Saturday night out – from her sexy outfit to downing shots & signing boobs

SHE bemoaned her "full on" mummy lifestyle just months before she appeared to confirm she's split from her husband. And now Sophie Radford - the eldest daughter of parents-of-22 Sue and Noel Radford - is reportedly single again, she seems to be making up for lost time on the partying front. 7 7 7 7 The mother-of-three took to her Instagram page to share pictures and videos from the wild night out with her pals on her Stories. Sophie dressed to impress for the evening out, and showed off her gym-honed figure in a mesh see-through crop top and leather trousers, which she teamed with some tie up heels. The 31-year-old looked like she was enjoying herself as she posed for snaps with her mate Cerys, who wrote "let's get feral" over the top of a picture of herself and Sophie. The alcohol then started flowing, with Sophie posting a video of a tray full of shots. She also turned "shot girl" as she carried a tray of drinks back to her table, shimmying in delight as she did so. The drinking continued as Sophie and Cerys downed their shots, before the former got up close and personal with one of her mates. In a video of her friend sporting some writing on her decolletage, Sophie added: "Had a fan ask for a picture so Georgia made me sign her t**s!" The evening out concluded with a "pit stop" at McDonald's on the way home, with Sophie treating herself to a large fries and a double cheeseburger. The wild festivities came after Sophie broke down in tears as she admitted she was struggling during an episode of the family's reality show 22 Kids & Counting last August. During the run-up to her 30th birthday, she reflected on how her life had changed since becoming a mother. "Usually people in their twenties are out partying, but my twenties were very different, I had three kids, all within a year between them," she said. "It's hard going, it's definitely hard going. It's the same routine every day, it's so full on, all the time." The mum also acknowledged that her relationship with husband Joe Broadley had suffered since having children. "With me and Joe, we used to go out to cinemas, out for meals, go out shopping, do all sorts of things and it all stopped," she added. "Because I've seen my mum and dad so happy, I do feel like I should be like that as well. However, it's not for everyone. Sophie hinted during a Q&A with fans on Instagram in May that her marriage hadn't worked out. The Radford Family's TV history THE first ever episode of 22 Kids and Counting aired on Channel 5 on 22nd February, 2021. After the first series - which had just four episodes in it - performed well, Channel 5 commissioned a 10-episode second season, which was broadcast in 2022. They went on to commission a third series, which included a Christmas special aired in December 2023. The fourth season began airing in January 2024, but fans were left disappointed when it stopped after six episodes. Sue and Noel reassured viewers that they were just taking a little break, and the next episode will be airing on 21st July. You can catch up on all previous episodes of 22 Kids and Counting on My 5, here. Asked by a curious fan if she was single after being married for almost 10 years, Sophie replied: "YES. That's all that will be said on it." Sophie and Joe married in 2015 and have three children together, Daisy Mae, 12, Ayprill Louise, 10, and Leo, nine. Earlier in the Q&A session, Sophie was asked how she and Joe were. When they asked, "How are you and Joe?", Sophie answered: "How are we... TBC. Privacy". 7 7 7

MAFS star rushes son to A&E after brutal football accident as he shares pics from hospital

A MARRIED At First Sight groom sparked concern among fans after revealing his son had been rushed to hospital. The parent of one, who appeared in last year's E4 series, captured youngster Leo with a bandaged head after he received treatment in the medical ward. 6 6 6 Ryan Livesey, who entered the Married At First Sight experiment as an intruder groom, showcased his brave seven-year-old offspring sitting patiently in the Paedeatric Emergency Department. He had a white bandage taped on the back of his skull with a bloodied wound visible underneath. Yet despite the drama, the youngster looked content to be playing a game on his hand held console. The TV star wrote on his Instagram caption: "A&E on a Friday night. "Leo's split his head open playing football." In the next slide posted to his Instagram Stories, Ryan revealed the wound in full glory. There were no further updates, suggesting the schoolboy is home and well. It is his second hospital trip in a matter of months, after he was rushed to hospital in December. He has previously described Leo as "my world, my purpose, my everything." RYAN'S HEALTH ISSUES Ryan was 22 when he learned he was going to be a dad, back in 2017, when he learned he was going to be a dad. MAFS groom bravely opens up about his battle with cancer saying 'it could come back' But his world was turned upside down three months later when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He fought the disease, only for it to return 18 months later. "Facing all of this at such a young age was the hardest thing I've ever been through," Ryan has said. He previously opened up to The Sun about how he discovered he had the terrifying disease after wetting the bed. Mafs couples that have stood the test of time Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby. The pair couldn't keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam's Doncaster home. Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau. Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December. Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: 'I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out - and excited for everything to come.' Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019. Owen recalled: 'I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work. "While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in. 'The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, 'Wouldn't it be funny if I signed up?' 'A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.' Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson. Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna's vegan lifestyle, the show's first same sex pairing are still going strong. They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod. Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: "We're not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship." I started wetting the bed, it was really embarrassing but I put it down to having too much to drink and of course, I didn't tell anyone and hid it,' Ryan said. 'I'd go to the toilet and not feel like I was emptying my bladder properly. 'I'd have to go again 20 minutes later because I couldn't hold it in. He then noticed blood in his urine after a night out a few months later. Ryan was diagnosed with stage two bladder cancer, making one of the 10,500 people in the UK each year - and 29 per day - to receive this life-changing news. 'I was in complete shock,' Ryan admitted. Luckily, after two battles with the disease, Ryan is now in remission. 6 6
