Fan asks Rodrygo if he's 'joining Arsenal' as Real Madrid prepare for transfer

Real Madrid star Rodrygo was giving nothing away when asked by a fan if he will join Arsenal this summer.
The Brazil international's future at the Santiago Bernabeu is in major doubt having been benched for five of their six matches at the Club World Cup in the United States.
The relationship between club and player soured towards the end of last season and while Xabi Alonso's arrival in the Spanish capital initially appeared to ease tensions, a summer departure is being considered.
Real are prepared to sell the 24-year-old, valuing him at €80million (£67m) with AS reporting Rodrygo has 'become more of a problem than a solution' at the club.
Arsenal have been in contact with the winger's representatives since May with Mikel Arteta a huge admirer.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners are still interested in pursuing a deal with Noni Madueke set to arrive from Chelsea in a £52million deal.
Real Madrid crashed out of the Club World Cup this week after a 4-0 thrashing against Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey.
On Friday, Spanish outlet El Chiringuito shared a clip of Rodrygo taking in the sights in New York City, with a fan approaching him and asking: 'Are you going to Arsenal?' in English.
Rodrygo did not reply, instead moving on to pose with another fan for a selfie.

The Brazilian's future will likely become clearer in the coming weeks but his persistent absence from the side in the US over the last month has fuelled speculation he will leave. More Trending
Alonso has previously described leaving the player out as a 'technical decision', repeating those comments after the 4-0 defeat to PSG.
But with remarks that only further fuelled speculation over Rodrygo's exit, the Spaniard explained he thought his side would be 'better off' without the Brazilian in the team.
'I didn't play Rodrygo for a technical decision,' Alonso said.
'We thought we would be better off with other players. It's not about his future'.

Arsenal legend Santi Cazorla, 40, agrees new deal with boyhood club on minimum wage after promotion to LaLiga

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SANTI CAZORLA has signed a new one-year deal with boyhood club Real Oviedo aged 40 — and will earn MINIMUM WAGE in La Liga. The former Arsenal midfielder made an emotional return to Oviedo in 2023, playing a starring role in last season's promotion back to the Spanish top flight for the first time in 24 years. And then scored a penalty in the second leg of the final to beat CD Mirandes in extra time. Cazorla offered to play at Oviedo — where he was in the academy from the age of eight to 16 — for FREE on his return, but league rules forced him to take a minimum wage of £77,000-a-year, or £1,480-per-week. Following Oviedo's promotion, he has signed on for the minimum possible amount again. But, as he steps up a level, he will now pocket a £90k pay-rise - as the LaLiga minimum wage is £168,000-a-year, or £3,230-a-week. That means Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe will be earning THREE TIMES more in a WEEK than Cazorla gets a year, to play in the same league. And even then, the generous star will give 10 per cent of his wage and shirt sales to the club's academy. A club statement read: 'With this renewal, Santi Cazorla, a symbol and emblem of Oviedo, proves that dreams, when pursued with the heart, come true. He suffered an Achilles injury in October 2016, going on to have 11 operations to cure the problem. One of the operations led to gangrene with doctors telling Cazorla he should be satisfied to walk again, never mind play. It was even suggested he may have to have to lower leg AMPUTATED. But he ignored that doomsday prognosis and after an operation to rebuild his Achilles — including having a skin graft from his arm to his ankle — he returned to playing after a 22-month absence. Oviedo's first La Liga fixture is away at Villarreal — another former club of Cazorla's — on August 15 before hosting Jude Bellingham's Real Madrid.

Lancashire climb above Durham with tense three-wicket Vitality Blast victory

Durham started the day atop the group and elected to bat first but runs were hard to come by and they were just 46 for three when Alex Lees was caught and bowled by Chris Green. Colin Ackermann top-scored with 42 as Durham limped to 155 from their 20 overs but they would have been happy to have England pair Phil Salt and Jos Buttler back in the shed early in the chase at 42 for two. The game remained in the balance as Lancs continued to plug away at the runs but Durham in turn took wickets at regular intervals courtesy of Callum Parkinson, Matthew Potts, James Neesham and Nathan Sowter but Green's match-winning 31 from 16 balls gave Lancashire victory. What a way to WIN it! 🤩 Clutch at the death, @chrisgreen_93 🧊 ⚡️ #StrikeTogether — Lancashire Lightning (@lancscricket) July 13, 2025 Surrey earned a resounding 67-run victory over Somerset in a battle of the top two in the South Group. They were forced to bat by Somerset but put on a pleasing display in the first innings. Will Jacks scored a half-century and fellow English pair Jason Roy and Dan Lawrence posted above 30 to help Surrey to 201 which Somerset did not make a mark on, being bowled out for 134. Northamptonshire climbed to second in the North Group with a comprehensive 64-run win over fellow quarter-final chasers Warwickshire. Matthew Breetzke clubbed 85 from 40 balls while David Willey and Ricardo Vasconcelos both struck half-centuries as the Steelbacks put a mammoth 240 on the board the halfway point. Warwickshire openers Alex Davies and Tom Latham tried to get on top of the run rate but both succumbed in doing so. Sam Hain hit a half-century but in the end they fell way short of their target. Hampshire all but secured their place in the knockouts with a six-wicket victory over Sussex, who saw their own hopes take a huge blow. After Sussex posted 167 on the board, the Hawks were completely dominant with the bat thanks largely to James Vince who came two runs short of a century but was unbeaten on 98 from 49 balls which saw Hampshire home with 16 balls to spare. Kent boosted their hopes of a top-four finish with a seven-wicket win over Middlesex. Middlesex would have been questioning their decision to bat after Kane Williamson fell in the eighth over at 43 for three but Leus Du Plooy's 68 propelled them to 160. However, Kent were always in control in their run chase. Tawanda Muyeye's 59 alongside solid scores from Harry Finch (36) and Joe Denly (46) moved Kent to fourth in the South Group. Leicestershire posted 173 at the end of their 20 overs, Tom Taylor ripped through Worcestershire's top order but the hosts fought back courtesy of Ben Cox's unbeaten 70 from 44 balls which helped them post a defendable target. However, Worcestershire were imperious in their run chase and posted over 50 in their first six overs. Tom Scriven aimed to pull Leicestershire back in the contest with the wickets of Brett D'Oliveira and Kashif Ali but Brookes' unbeaten 56 took Worcestershire to a sixth win of the campaign. Ben Charlesworth's 55 from 44 balls propelled Gloucestershire to 175 but Glamorgan never got going with their run chase and were reduced to 95 for five after 11 overs. Marchant de Lange's four wickets helped limit Glamorgan who were bowled out for 135 after just 18.1 overs. The run chase was a formality for Derbyshire. Aneurin Donald and Wayne Madsen went past 50 while Caleb Jewell remained unbeaten on 41 to help them to a win.

Jannik Sinner unnerved by Wimbledon missile as Italian avenges French Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz to clinch SW19 crown

A champagne cork landed by the Italian's feet just as he was about to serve during his championship triumph at SW19 Jannik Sinner insists he was unfazed by a missle thrown onto Centre Court during his four-set victory over rival Carlos Alcaraz that saw him become a Wimbledon champion for the first time. The Italian - who lost to the Spaniard at the French Open earlier this year - fought back from a set down at SW19 to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, serving out to win the Championship in style. ‌ During the thrilling showpiece final, a champagne cork was thrown in tennis star Sinner's direction just as the 23-year-old was about to serve. ‌ His opponent Alcaraz saw the object fly through the air and waved his arms in frustration before a Wimbledon official then urged fans in the crowd to refrain from throwing anything onto the court. But classy Sinner kept his composure to get the job done, securing his fourth major title at the age of just 23. And the South Tyrol-born star even joked that seeing a champagne cork land by his feet is only something that would happen at Wimbledon. Asked in his post-match interview by BBC Sport if he had ever experienced anything similar during a game, he replied: "No, only here at Wimbledon! "But that's exactly why we love playing here. It's a very expensive tournament also!" ‌ Sinnker also admits the victory was extra sweet having lost out to good pal Alcaraz in that epic Paris showdown last month. "I would say mostly emotionally because I had a very tough loss in Paris", he added. "But at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you win or you lose, at important tournaments you just have to understand what you did wrong and work on that. We tried to accept the loss and keep working. For sure that is one of the reasons why I am holding this trophy. Having this means a lot. ‌ "The last game I served very well, I had some tough moments in the game before, but in best-of-five matches every moment can change the match, so I'm very happy I held my nerve."
