Dubai: 10-year-old reports abusive father through smart app, police take action
The boy, identified only as A.A, said he was repeatedly beaten up by his father, unlike his younger siblings. The beatings left visible bruises on his body, which he tried to hide from classmates. His performance in school also began to decline, drawing concern from his school's administration and social worker.
The school contacted Dubai Police after the social worker noticed bruises on the child's body and signs of emotional distress. According to Lieutenant Colonel Dr Ali Al Matrooshi, Director of the Child and Women Protection Department, the boy was initially too afraid to speak out, fearing more punishment at home.

School social worker intervened
"The school social worker built trust with the child and encouraged him to use the police smart app," said Al Matrooshi. "Once the report was submitted, we were able to intervene immediately."
Dubai Police summoned the father, who admitted to beating his son but said he did not intend to cause harm. According to Al Matrooshi, the father explained that he was following the parenting style he had experienced himself, believing that it would toughen up his son.
"He thought harsh discipline would raise a strong child, but what it caused instead was trauma and social withdrawal," said Al Matrooshi. "This type of behaviour is unacceptable and punishable by law."
Police say the father pledged to change his parenting approach. Legal action will be taken where appropriate, and the child will continue receiving psychological and social support, with follow-ups to ensure his well-being.
Wadeema law
Authorities emphasised the importance of early reporting in such cases and reminded residents that children's rights are protected under the UAE's Child Protection Law. Incidents can be reported confidentially via the Dubai Police smart app and website, by calling 901, or by visiting the Child Oasis at the Dubai Police headquarters in Al Twar.
The UAE implemented a comprehensive child protection law to safeguard the rights and well-being of children living in the country. The Federal Law, known as the Wadeema's Law, is the cornerstone of child protection in the country.
Named after a tragic case involving child abuse, the law aims to ensure children's safety, welfare, and development. In 2012, a girl named Wadeema was abused and killed by her father; the incident shook the consciousness of the nation. The leadership launched a legal workshop that led to the introduction of Wadeema's Law in 2016.

Dubai: Gang of five arrested for robbing trading companies, stealing Dh30,000 in cash
The Dubai Public Prosecution is investigating a robbery involving five Ethiopian nationals, who allegedly broke into the offices of four trading companies in Al Ras. According to authorities, the suspects forced their way in, broke open safes, and stole approximately Dh30,000 in cash. The crime came to light when the company owners arrived in their office in the morning and discovered the premises had been ransacked and the safes broken into. Police were immediately notified. The remaining four suspects were later arrested in Abu Dhabi in a coordinated operation with the emirate's police forces. All five suspects have confessed during interrogation. Law enforcement recovered Dh18,000, with the suspects admitting the remainder had been transferred to their home country. Investigations are ongoing, and the accused will soon be formally charged.

Watch: Kuwait, UAE forces seize 110kg of drugs hidden in container door, roof panels
Approximately 100kg of methamphetamine and 10kg of heroin has been seized by Kuwaiti authorities in collaboration with their UAE counterparts. UAE: Police forces launch summer youth programmes
In a continued effort to engage and empower the nation's youth, both Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah Police have launched their flagship summer programmes each tailored to instill values of discipline, patriotism, and responsibility in young Emiratis. In Ajman, the Police General Headquarters inaugurated the 26th edition of the 'Future Police' summer programme for boys and the 8th edition for girls. This year, the programme welcomed 315 Emirati students between the ages of 12 and 17, including 79 participants from the Masfout and Manama regions. Held under the patronage of Brigadier-General Sultan Khalifa Al Muhairi, Director General of Resources and Support Services, the programme aligns with the UAE's 'Year of Community' and emphasises inclusive participation, welcoming students of determination and orphans with the support of the Social Support Centre. Brig-Gen. Al Muhairi underscored that the 'Future Police' initiative is one of Ajman Police's most impactful annual programmes, aiming to build a generation grounded in national values, civic duty, and self-confidence. The programme includes a comprehensive schedule of military training, weapons handling, physical fitness, and self-defence, as well as emergency preparedness and road safety workshops.
