Philip Rivers announces retirement from football as a Charger
Rivers, 43, spent all but one of his 17 seasons with the franchise, which he leads in virtually every passing category.
He played one season for the Colts in the 2020 season, which was the last time he suited up in the NFL.
And while Rivers was already assumed by many to be done playing, he made things official on Monday as he re-joined the Chargers to provide an emotional update.
'It's really, in the past handful of years, been my desire [to retire] as a Charger. It was more so the timing,' Rivers told the team's website.
'Gratitude is the first thing that comes to mind. Just thankful. Thankful for my time there as a Charger.'

The quarterback gave a heartwarming video interview to the team, who wove his sit-down with highlights from his memorable career.
'There were so many highlights and fun Sundays,' Rivers added in the tribute video. 'So many. But what I miss and what I'm most appreciative and thankful for are those relationships.'
Namely, the Alabama native was close with his offensive lineman, and he was surprised during the video by his former protectors Nick Hardwick, Kris Dielman, Marcus McNeill and Jeromey Clary.
Rivers got emotional as his former teammates surprised him in his home, hugging each one before taking a FaceTime from Chargers president John Spanos.
Spanos told Chargers.com: 'He and I have had discussions over the last several years, ever since his first year when he wasn't playing. We had a really good conversation and there was a lot of gratitude expressed back and forth, from me personally and on the team's behalf for everything he's meant to us and all our fans as well as from him for what the Chargers mean to him.
'He made it known back then he wanted to retire a Charger, and I obviously expressed that we would love that to happen as soon as he was ready,' Spanos continued.
'I think we both knew this day was coming for a few years now, but the key thing that I expressed to Philip was that I wanted the timing to be something he was good with. He had to be ready to close that door.'
Rivers was routinely considered one of the league's best quarterbacks during his career, and made eight Pro Bowls while playing for the Chargers.
He's remembered by fans for the high-powered offense he formed with running back LaDainian Tomlinson, and for his spirited trash-talking during his career.
Rivers' large family with his wife, Tiffany, has also become a point of fascination among NFL fans as the couple shares 10 children together.
The couple shares kids Halle, Caroline, Grace, Gunner, Sarah, Peter, Rebecca, Clare, Anna and the youngest, Andrew, who was born in October 2023.
Rivers posted a 5-7 record in the playoffs (the furthest he made it was the AFC Championship), and will retire from the NFL with over $243million in earnings, per Spotrac.

Arne Slot leaves Luis Diaz out of AC Milan friendly due to ongoing speculation
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot left Luis Diaz out of their 4-2 friendly defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong due to ongoing speculation about his future. Bayern Munich are understood to have reopened dialogue with the Premier League champions, having had an initial offer of 67.5million euros (£59m) dismissed last week. Liverpool have maintained they do not want to sell the forward – who has also attracted interest from Barcelona – and the Bundesliga champions' bid was way below their own valuation of 100m euro (£87m) for an elite forward in the global market. Diaz turns 29 in January and has two years left on his current deal but has not yet had an offer of a new contract. 'In Lucho's (Diaz's) situation, there's a lot of rumours around him lately and I cannot go into that,' said Slot. 'He's training really well with us but we have decided for now not to play him yet. 'I'm used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. I cannot comment much more about that.' Asked whether Diaz wanted to leave, Slot added: 'That is not the person to ask, me.' Striker Darwin Nunez, whose own future appears to lie away from Anfield, and midfielder Wataru Endo missed the game with minor fitness issues. Club-record signing Florian Wirtz made his first start as a false nine, with latest signing Hugo Ekitike left out of the squad, having only arrived on Thursday after completing his arrival in a £79m deal on Wednesday. Slot played two different starting XIs in each half, with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and left-back Kostas Tsimikas both required to fill a centre-back role after Joe Gomez returned home for treatment on an Achilles injury. 'We thought it was better to assess it back in England and for him to work on him to come back to the team, probably in more ideal circumstances for him,' added Slot, who denied Gomez's absence left him dangerously-short in the position after selling Jarrell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. 'I don't think we have a concern at centre-back. I think Ryan (Gravenberch) showed today that he can play in that position. He did it last season as well. 'Although we all know we favour him as a number six, Wata (Endo) can play there. Joe Gomez only has a minor injury, he has been good for us last season as well. 'We have enough options left but it's true that Jarell Quansah left and we haven't replaced him yet.' Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored the goals for Liverpool, who paid tribute to forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva after their deaths in a car crash earlier this month. Players wore shirts bearing a logo with the Portugal international's name and number and a heart, and Sir Kenny Dalglish laid a wreath in front of supporters who held up a DJ 20 mosaic.

I saved my 1st kiss for marriage -I got tempted, but my man said it'd get in the way of us getting to know each other
A WOMAN has revealed that she and her husband saved their first kiss until they were married. Lydia Plath, 21, became besotted with Zac Wyse as soon as they met, but the couple didn't lock lips until they wed six months later. 2 2 Appearing on series seven of TLC reality series Welcome To Plathville, which follows Lydia and her family and was filmed before the couple wed, a producer on the show asked her what her first kiss was like. "It hasn't happened yet", she responded. "He has committed, and I guess now I have committed to saving our first kiss for our wedding day." Zac revealed that he had wanted to save the kiss as he didn't want it to "get in the way of really getting to know someone." He explained that he had shared his reasoning with Lydia, who then revealed that she too had "always wanted that." "There are moments where it can be tempting, but I think self-control is just a way that we can represent to Lord together", Zac said. He added that instead of kissing, the couple do other stuff like "climbing trees", and "skipping" and "dancing". "It's better than kissing really". However, Lydia then shot back: "I think it's safe to say that we're both looking forward to our first kiss." The lovebirds, from Georgia, USA, got engaged in December 2024, after three months of dating, and then tied the knot three months after that. Welcome to Plathville's Barry Plath requests custody of three minor kids and child support from ex Kim in nasty divorce The pair, who met at a church in Colorado, said that they don't believe that the purpose of dating is to mess around and "pursue our hearts desire". Instead, they dated with the purpose of marriage, and said that their promise not to kiss until marriage made things "exciting". Following their wedding day, Zac told People: "The discipline it has taken to save our first kiss for the wedding day is an example of the commitment we have for each other going into our marriage." And the couple aren't the only ones who have chosen to save their first kiss for their big day. Celebs that waited until marriage to have sex Celebrities tend to keep the details of their sex life private, but when it comes to their choice to wait until marriage, some stars are actually willing to open up. Together, the couple decided to continue to refrain from having sex until they were married. Adriana Lima - Victoria's Secret model Adriana's Catholic faith influenced her decision to save herself for marriage. She explained potential suitors would have to respect her decision — and if they weren't willing to wait, then they weren't the right person for her. Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel - When Miranda started dating Snapchat founder Evan, the couple decided to wait until marriage to have sex because of Evan's traditional beliefs. In an interview, Miranda was asked about the possibility of having children before their wedding and she said it wouldn't be possible: "Not until after we get married. My partner is very traditional. We can't...I mean we're she told The Times. Kevin Jonas - All the Jonas brothers famously wore purity rings for much of their adolescence, in part due to their religious upbringing. While Nick and Joe ended up taking their rings off, Kevin saw things through until he tied the knot with his wife Danielle in 2009. Kaytlin O'Neall and Drew Brown, both 21, are also holding off on kissing until after they've tied the knot. The young couple have been together for four years and got engaged last October. Posting a TikTok video of the proposal, Kaytlin (@ referenced their plans to avoid locking lips until they say their vows. "Disclaimer!!! You don't have to kiss to get a ring," she captioned the clip. She explained that they were inspired by their religious beliefs to abstain from any form of physical intimacy. "It is truly because we have felt this conviction from the Lord," Kaytlin explained. "Your flesh is always going to want to make the wrong choice."
