
A Jewelry Fair Joins the Hamptons' Summer Calendar
From July 24-27, the inaugural Hamptons Jewelry Show is scheduled to host more than 80 exhibitors from around the globe in a pavilion at the Southampton Fairgrounds that could cover almost 40 standard tennis courts.
The event has ambitions to be 'one of the finest and most respected, high-caliber, direct-to-the-public shows,' said Rick Friedman, the event's executive director, in a video interview. (He also founded the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, scheduled next week at the same location.)
Independent jewelers and designers will display their creations and dealers will be offering pieces by the likes of Cartier, Boucheron, Bulgari and Van Cleef & Arpels, said Hilary Joy Diaz, the show's director and a veteran of more than 40 years in the jewelry industry. She estimated that prices will range from $200 to more than $3.5 million.
Tickets, which may be purchased through the event's website, are $125 for the July 24 preview and $40 for a day pass.
Ms. Diaz said that plans to increase the excitement included a four-day auction of some bespoke furniture created for the event and showings of various vehicles from Lucid Motors, an American electric luxury car company.
As for the jewelers, Ms. Diaz said: 'I wanted to curate this event in the way that Rick curates the art show,' she said, referring to Mr. Friedman. 'You have to have the best of the best.'
Mr. Friedman said attendees would be able to meet designers and makers such as Scarselli Diamonds, a New York jeweler known for its colored stones, and Tamsen Ann Ziff of New York, whose Tamsen Z brand prominently features opals.
Another maker is Walter Hollander, the owner, designer and second-generation jeweler at Cornelis Hollander in Scottsdale, Ariz. Mr. Hollander said he had never been to the Hamptons ('I'm looking forward to going to the beach,' he said), and that participating in the Long Island show was a way to help grow his business.
Among the creations Mr. Hollander intends to display is a diamond pavé ring set with a five-carat sapphire in an unusual trapezoid shape 'It's a lot of bling with this very unique-cut stone that's set in a kind of maze, held up with lots of crossovers,' he said.
He also will showcase rings with a folded ribbonlike motif that he said had been particularly popular with customers: 'We have a clientele that want something unique and handmade — that no one else has seen. They don't really want a mass-produced item.'
Mr. Friedman said that he expected the kind of attendees who patronize the art fair would attend the new event. 'We have to play at a very high standard here — and transfer that sense of excellence to the jewelry world,' he said.

Schumer warns package to claw back funding would ‘poison' annual spending talks
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) warned in a 'Dear Colleague' letter to Democrats on Tuesday that a Republican package to claw back funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid would 'poison' any bipartisan goodwill needed to negotiate the 12 annual spending bills. Schumer argued that for Republicans to negotiate bipartisan spending deals with Democrats, which need 60 votes to pass the Senate, then to turn around and pass a partisan rescissions package that needs only a simple majority would be a blow to the regular appropriations process. 'Republicans' passage of this purely partisan proposal would be an affront to the bipartisan appropriations process,' Schumer warned in his letter, adding that it would be 'absurd' for GOP lawmakers to then 'expect Democrats to act as business as usual and engage in a bipartisan appropriations process to fund government.' Schumer cited reporting suggesting Trump administration officials promised conservatives on Capitol Hill to defund certain federal programs in exchange for their support of the sweeping tax and spending bill, which President Trump signed into law July 4. 'This is beyond bait and switch — it is a bait and poison-to-kill. Senate Republicans must reject this partisan path and instead work with Democrats on a bipartisan appropriations process,' he said. The Senate has until July 18 to vote on the rescissions package Trump sent to Capitol Hill, which would claw back $9.4 billion in congressionally authorized funding. It would revoke $1.1 billion in funding for PBS, NPR and $8.3 billion in foreign aide. It narrowly passed the House by a vote of 214 to 212 last month. 'Republicans are, in effect, proposing Congress negotiate bipartisan deals in the Committee room, while they retreat to a backroom to rubberstamp President Trump's purely partisan scheme that only needs a simple majority to pass to tear up those very same agreements,' Schumer wrote. Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine) has voiced concerns about cuts to global health programs, and senators expect the House-passed package to be modified when it comes to the Senate floor. 'I do not support the rescission for PEPFAR and global health programs,' Collins told reporters last month when asked about the rescissions proposal. Schumer on Tuesday urged Collins and other GOP senators to reject the rescissions package and put together bipartisan deals on appropriations for fiscal 2026, warning that a failure to work in good faith would have long-lasting implications for Congress. 'How Republicans answer this question on rescissions and other forthcoming issues will have grave implications for the Congress, the very role of the legislative branch, and, more importantly, our country,' he wrote. DailyPay lands novel funding

Earned wage access provider DailyPay closed on a $200 million asset-backed securitization deal with investment banks Barclays, Citi and Morgan Stanley, the earned wage access provider said in a press release last week. The transaction closed on June 25, according to a spokesperson for the company. Barclays was the lead bookrunner and structuring agent for the transaction, while Citi and Morgan Stanley were joint bookrunners. The transaction will enable DailyPay to work with more employers that use its on-demand wage services, according to the June 30 press release The $200 million securitization means DailyPay now has nearly $1 billion in debt financing backed by its EWA receivables, including a prior $760 million in secured debt with Barclays, Citi and and the financial firm TPG Angelo Gordon, the release said. New York-based EWA DailyPay contends that it is the first company in the earned wage access world to land such an ABS financing deal. All four classes of the new debt notes will trade publicly, the spokesperson said by email. 'This securitization marks a first for our industry, with strong investor demand validating our differentiated approach,' Deepa Subramanian, chief financial officer of DailyPay, said in a statement. 'With $25 billion in payments volume, we are continuously looking for new ways to optimize our capital structure to support our growth ambitions.' The securitization deal will let DailyPay expand its clientele by catering to more employers that want to offer EWA services to workers, CEO Stacy Greiner noted in the release. The company's clients include major employers such as Kroger, Six Flags and Dollar Tree, per the company's website. DailyPay has been locked in a battle with a key regulator in New York. In April, the company filed a lawsuit against the New York attorney general's office, seeking to prevent the enforcement agency from blocking its earned wage access services. Later that month, the New York attorney general's office sued DailyPay and MoneyLion Technologies for allegedly charging 'illegal, high-interest loans' to workers. As DailyPay and the New York attorney general face off in court, more states have been adopting EWA laws and implementing regulation to oversee the dozens of companies that have cropped up to offer EWA services over the past decade. This year, so far, multiple states, including Arkansas, Utah, Indiana and Maryland, have passed EWA laws, and most recently Louisiana joined the group this month. Those states largely had backing from the industry, but some states, including Connecticut, have taken a stricter approach to fees and other parameters that aren't as appealing to EWA providers. Meanwhile, other EWA players are working to expand their reach. Last month, Tapcheck, another earned wage access company, integrated its EWA software into Workday's human resources software, enabling workers to request wage deposits ahead of their typical payday. Datadog's inclusion in the S&P 500 over other contenders is a positive for the stock, as it demonstrates the market's confidence in the company. It's also worth noting that the stock has shot up a remarkable 76% in the past three months following its latest surge. Does this mean it is too late to buy Datadog stock? Let's find out. Datadog's cloud-based observability platform allows customers to monitor their cloud activity across servers, databases, and applications to detect issues, while its security features scan for vulnerabilities so that they can be fixed quickly. The demand for Datadog's cloud observability solutions has been rising at an impressive pace, thanks to the secular growth of the cloud market. Now, the company is also providing tools for monitoring large language models (LLMs) and other artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The company is targeting lucrative end markets that are currently worth around $80 billion. This indicates that it has a lot of room for long-term growth. It has generated $2.8 billion in revenue in the trailing 12 months. However, investors will now have to pay a rich premium to buy into Datadog's potential growth. That's because it is now trading at a whopping 330 times trailing earnings. Though the forward earnings multiple of 82 is significantly lower than the trailing multiple, it is still on the expensive side when compared to the S&P 500 index's average earnings multiple of 24. The price-to-sales ratio of 20 is over 6x the index's average sales multiple. The only way Datadog stock can sustain its impressive stock market momentum is by delivering stronger-than-expected growth and outpacing Wall Street's growth expectations. But can the company do that? We have already seen that Datadog is scratching the surface of a massive end-market opportunity in the cloud observability market. The advent of AI is likely to help it corner a bigger portion of the addressable market on offer by opening up a cross-selling opportunity. Datadog had 30,500 customers at the end of the previous quarter, and 4,000 of them have been using one or more of its AI services. Importantly, Datadog management says that this number doubled on a year-over-year basis in the previous quarter, and the good part is that this trend is likely to continue. After all, customers are flocking toward Datadog to improve the performance of their LLMs with its observability solutions. The company points out that "the number of companies using LLM Observability has more than doubled in the past 6 months." That's the reason why Datadog is now pushing the envelope on the product development front by bringing new AI-focused solutions to customers. Its Bits AI platform helps customers investigate incidents, fix code, and review security alerts autonomously. All this should eventually allow Datadog to accelerate its growth rate in the future as the adoption of AI applications in the cloud increases. For instance, the size of the LLM market is expected to jump by more than 6x by 2030, which should lead to an increase in the demand for Datadog's offerings. Not surprisingly, analysts are forecasting an acceleration in Datadog's growth going forward. This improvement in the company's top-line growth is expected to filter down to the bottom line as well, as shown in the chart below. However, don't be surprised to see Datadog's earnings grow at a faster pace than Wall Street's expectations as a large chunk of its existing customer base is yet to adopt its AI solutions. This huge cross-selling opportunity should enable the company to win a bigger share of existing customers' wallets and improve its margin profile. Datadog seems to be in a position to justify its expensive valuation by stepping on the gas. That's why it could entice growth-oriented investors, even after the impressive gains that it has clocked in recent months.
