Pirates Preview: Bucs Face Scorching Starter in the Desert
The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 5-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Memorial Day in the first of a three-game series.
Braxton Ashcraft made his anticipated MLB debut out of the bullpen and pitched well, but the offense was shut out for the ninth time this season in the loss.

The Pirates (19-36) will look for better results on Tuesday night against former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes and the Diamondbacks (27-27).

Wisconsin football extends offer to four-star class of 2027 wide receiver
Wisconsin football extended an offer to four-star class of 2027 wide receiver Khristian Jackson on Wednesday. After Wisconsin's offer, Jackson's offer sheet now features nearly 20 potential collegiate destinations. Headlined by Penn State, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Georgia Tech, the rising junior's list of suitors includes top programs from across the country. A product of Ridge View High School in Columbia, South Carolina, Jackson hauled in 49 catches for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2024-25 slate. The offensive weapon also returned eight kickoffs for 197 yards across six contests. Neither On3/Rivals nor 247Sports have released projections regarding Jackson's landing spot, but On3/Rivals' recruiting prediction machine currently considers the Gamecocks the favorite with a 43% of securing his commitment. Jackson is one of 27 class of 2027 wide receiver targets to receive an offer from the Badgers thus far. The 5-foot-11 pass-catcher joins a talent cohort, highlighted by four or five-star playmakers Xavier Sabb and Easton Royal, Myles McAfee, Quentin Burrell, Dakota Guerrant and Damani Warren. While the offer sheet itself is impressive, the Badgers have not pocketed a 2027 commitment yet. All eyes remain on the program's class of 2026, which has not risen in the national rankings since four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit pledged his commitment in late June. That class features 14 players and currently sits No. 60 nationally and No. 16 in an 18-team Big Ten. THE 2025 ACC PRESEASON POLL 🏈🚨Thoughts? 🤔 One of the Spartans' marquee non-conference opponents has been pegged by the media to finish near the bottom of their league. Michigan State will play host to Boston College of the ACC in a nationally televised night game on September 6. This is a critical early season game for the Spartans as a win could catapult them into a fast start to the season, while a loss could suggest another losing season is on the way. Good news for the Spartans, though, is that the ACC media isn't particularly high on the Eagles. In the recently released ACC preseason media poll, Boston College landed as the No. 13 team out of 17 league members. That isn't all to different from the Spartans' preseason landing spot of No. 13 out of 18 teams in the Big Ten media poll, but at least is telling that Boston College should be a very beatable opponent for the Spartans this fall. Michigan State let one slip away at Boston College last fall, and will get the return trip from the Eagles this year. That week two matchup is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NBC. Mason Miller trade grades: Who won the Padres and Athletics deal?
We've seen some relief pitchers go for fairly high returns in the 2025 MLB trade deadline, but this one? This is a blockbuster. Flamethrowing Mason Miller is headed to the San Diego Padres, as is lefty starter J.P. Sears. And in exchange? The Athletics are getting a bunch of prospects ... including a blue-chipper. WOW. WOW WOW WOW! This is a big deal for the National League playoff race, and maybe this is huge for the Athletics, who dealt an arbitration eligible arm and got back some young talent. Let's break it down with trade grades for both teams, as we do: Athletics and Padres trade details Padres get: RP Mason Miller, LHP JP Sears Athletics get: RHP Eduarniel Nunez, SS Leo De Vries, RHP Braden Nett and RHP Henry Baez Padres trade grade The rich getting richer. Sears can slot in at the back end of the rotation, but it's Miller who gives them yet another arm in a group full of bullpen talent from Robert Suarez to Jeremiah Estrada to Jason Adam to Adrian Morejon. YIKES. A devastating amount of depth just got deeper. Was it worth giving up shortstop Leo De Vries, a top-5 prospect in all of baseball? Time will tell. But if you're contending, this is what you do. GRADE: A Athletics grade They knew Miller was going to need a significant raise. So instead, they're going to end up with a blue chip prospect in De Vries, the Padres' third-best prospect (per in Nett and a couple of other names who were noteworthy in San Diego's system. If De Vries ends up being a future star, it's going to be worth it. I love the return here. GRADE: A
