Pirates whiff on late chance, drop close one vs. Cubs
This article originally appeared on The Pittsburgh Pirates had a golden opportunity to take a late lead but left the bases loaded in the seventh inning and were defeated 3-2 by the Chicago Cubs at Wigley Field on Thursday night. Advertisement Pete Crow-Armstrong broke a scoreless tie with a two-run home run off Andrew Heaney in the fourth inning. Heaney (3-5) had been perfect through the first three innings. Two innings later, Seiya Suzuki put the Cubs (42-27) ahead 3-0 with a solo home run over the left field fence. The Pirates (28-42) didn't score off Cubs starter Jameson Taillon (7-3) until the seventh inning when Adam Frazier followed Spencer Horwitz's double with an RBI single to left. Later in the inning, Jared Triolo drew a four-pitch walk against reliever Brad Keller with the bases loaded to bring the Pirates within a run. Pirates keep fighting, walk off Phillies; Nick Gonzales delivers
This article originally appeared on After fighting their way back all night long, the Pittsburgh Pirates walked off the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 on Nick Gonzales' sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday night. Advertisement The back-and-forth affair started in the top of the first inning, when Nick Castellanos put the Phillies (37-26) ahead 1-0 with an RBI groundout. The Pirates (24-40) evened the score in the bottom of the inning when Bryan Reynolds followed a Nick Gonzales triple with a base hit to right. After the Phillies went back up by a run in the top of the second, Reynolds tied the game once again with a solo home run to left field in the third. Pirates finally get Paul Skenes a win, blow out Diamondbacks in rubber match

Skenes (4-5) delivered 6.2-shutout innings, and the Pittsburgh Pirates poured it on the Arizona Diamondbacks for a 10-1 blowout win in Wednesday's rubber match at Chase Field.
