With Royal decree confirmed, UMNO now demands Najib's house arrest

Focus Malaysia18 hours ago
KELANTAN UMNO is urging the immediate implementation of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's remaining prison sentence under house arrest, saying this would demonstrate transparency and fairness in the legal process now that the existence of the Titah Adendum is no longer in doubt.
Kelantan UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub also called for all prosecution proceedings to be halted in line with the validity of the Titah Adendum.
'This will also help dispel the negative perceptions held by the public previously,' he said in a statement on Saturday.
The request follows the Attorney General's Chambers' (AGC) confirmation of the Titah Adendum's existence on Friday (July 11).
Meanwhile, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the decree's confirmation proved his earlier affidavit to the court was true and not hearsay.
Wan Rosdy further urged that court proceedings be halted and the decree implemented, emphasising that the AGC, courts, and government must uphold the separation of powers and respect the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Malay Rulers.
He added that he and the people of Pahang pray Najib receives justice under the decree. — July 12, 2025

Losing time and again isn't a free pass to party-hop, Zambry warns Kelantan Umno members

KOTA BARU, July 13 — Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said Umno members in Kelantan need to discard a defeatist mindset and remain loyal to the party's struggle even though they have been in the opposition seat for a long time. He said that the actions of certain parties who easily give up and jump parties after defeat are a big mistake that undermines the strength of the party. 'There are those who, after losing, immediately admit defeat and jump to another party in the hope of being accepted. That is a mistake, and if they can do that to their own party, what guarantee do we have that they won't do the same thing again?' he said to reporters after officiating the Umno Division Delegates' Meeting in Pengkalan Chepa here yesterday. Zambry, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, praised the success of the 102 Umno branches in Pengkalan Chepa that managed to hold meetings, even though Umno in that state has been in opposition for more than five decades, thus reflecting the party's grassroots strength. At the same time, he reminded party members to continue cooperating at all levels, including the Women's, Youth and Puteri wings, to strengthen the party's efforts. — Bernama

Don't jump ship when the seas get rough, Zahid implores BN partners amid dwindling seat numbers

SUNGAI BULOH, July 13 — Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed today that Umno will not abandon its component partners in Barisan Nasional (BN), MCA, MIC and Friends of BN, no matter what the situation. The BN chairman also urged component parties not to be hasty nor threaten to leave the coalition in light of current political challenges. 'I tell my (component) partners, currently it's tough, MIC has one seat, MCA has two and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) one seat in Sabah. We (Umno) also have it tough, only 26 seats, used to be 64 and before then over a hundred. 'In times of trouble, Umno will not abandon MCA, MIC, PBRS or Friends of BN. This is our way, don't threaten to leave during hard times,' he said during his speech officiating the Selayang Umno Division delegates' meeting here yesterday. He also denied allegations that BN component parties like MCA were sidelined in seat allocations, including Malay-majority seats, during a media conference after the meeting, pointing out that MCA and MIC were entrusted with contesting in traditional Malay seats. 'Which Malay-majority seat do we not give to MCA? Tanjung Piai isn't a Malay seat? Or Ayer Hitam isn't a Malay seat? All Malay seats that we give to MCA means we respect them. 'MCA is a loyal BN component partner since a long time back, that's what we will preserve. The same with seats to MIC, all Malay seats we give are entrusted to them to contest,' he said. Previous media reports had stated that former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker was urging the party to not be sidelined during the 16th general election and needed to be given suitable seats to prove their relevance, including Malay-majority seats. In other developments, Ahmad Zahid urged those who were pressing for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign to respect the legal process and democratic system in the country, pointing out that Anwar currently enjoyed the support of 154 MPs, or over two-thirds majority. — Bernama

Govt to monitor students still in Iran

JELI: The five Malaysian students who have chosen to remain in Iran will continue to be monitored by the Higher Education Ministry, says Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir ( pic ). 'The government has offered support and expressed its willingness to help them return if they choose to,' said the Higher Education Minister, Bernama reported. 'We will continue to monitor their situation closely, wherever they are, to ensure their safety,' he told reporters after opening the Jeli Umno division meeting here. Previously, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan confirmed only five Malaysians remained in Iran by choice. All five had signed letters of undertaking to stay in the country, despite the government's earlier advisory urging Malaysians to leave amid tit-for-tat air strikes between Iran and Israel. On June 23, the Malaysian government brought back a total of 24 individuals who arrived safely at the KL International Airport from Iran on Malaysia Airlines flight MH781. They comprised 17 Malaysians, six Iranian dependents of Malaysian citizens and one Singaporean national. Meanwhile, Zambry said all students who survived the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris crash on June 9 have been discharged from hospital.
