The Batman 2: James Gunn Gives Disappointing Update About Movie's Script

Yahooa day ago

James Gunn is denying a recent report regarding the script for .
The Batman was released in March 2022. The DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, and more.
A sequel is currently expected to arrive in October 2027, though there has been much chatter about when the script for the film will be ready.
Last week, Puck reported that Reeves was set to deliver his script for The Batman 2 to Warner Bros. and DC today — meaning Monday, June 23, 2025. Gunn, however, took to Threads this morning to say that the report was 'not true,' meaning the script won't be arriving today.
Having said that, fans of The Batman need not worry too much, yet, as Gunn also told Entertainment Weekly last week that they're 'supposed' to get The Batman 2 script in June.
'I hope that happens,' Gunn said. 'We feel really good about it. Matt's excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I'm totally excited about it. So we can't wait to read the scripts, but we haven't read it yet, if that's your question. People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.'
Plot details for The Batman 2 remain under wraps at this time. The film currently has an October 1, 2027, release date. The Batman and The Penguin spin-off show, meanwhile, are both available to stream on Max.

Horror Hit ‘Sinners' Coming To Streaming On Max This Week

Michael B Jordan plays twins in "Sinners." Sinners — Ryan Coogler's hit vampire thriller starring Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld — is coming soon to streaming on Max. Written and directed by Coogler, Sinners stars the filmmaker's Black Panther and Creed collaborator Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return home to Mississippi in 1932 after serving in World War I and working for the mob in Chicago. The logline for Sinners reads, 'Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.' Sinners also stars Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wumni Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller and Delroy Lindo. Sinners opened in theaters on April 18 and made its debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on June 3. According to Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, Sinners will debut on the company's streaming service Max on Friday, July 4. Max — which will soon revert to its original name HBO Max — has three streaming tiers available. Viewers can subscribe to an an ad-based tier for $9.99 per month, an ad-free tier for $16.99 per month or an ad-free tier with 4K Ultra HD Programming for $20.99 per month. Michael B. Jordan Had One Big Reservation About Being In A Vampire Movie Naturally, a movie with vampires is going to require fake fangs and blood, and as it turns out, Michael B. Jordan was not a fan of one of them while making Sinners. "I liked the fangs. Fangs were dope. The blood was a bit messy and uncomfortable at times. The blood was a lot," Jordan, sitting alongside Ryan Coogler, told People in an April interview. Coogler then shed a bit more light on Jordan's disdain for fake blood for People, adding, "I got called into a meeting a few weeks in by my producer and my wife Zinzi Coogler, and she was like, 'Hey, we gotta talk about Mike.' I'm like, 'What? What's going on?' And she's like, 'The blood — he doesn't like it.' I'm like, 'Wait, what?'" Jordan then brought a little more clarity to the situation. "First of all, there's a difference between complaining and venting,' Jordan told People, laughing. 'I was just more venting, you know what I'm saying? But they care about me, so they had a meeting. I appreciate the meeting." Sinners continues to be a monster hit in theaters, earning $277.6 million domestically and $86.6 million in international ticket sales for a worldwide box office tally of $363.8 million to date. Sinners had a $90 million production budget before prints and advertising, The Numbers reported. The film also earned a 97% 'fresh' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics, who gave the film 375 reviews. In addition, Sinners earned a 96% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 25,000-plus verified user ratings. Sinners arrives on Max on Friday, July 4.

Warner Bros. Gives Up on ‘Akira' Remake, But Hollywood Won't

Well, it's happened. After 20 years of shuffling creative teams and development hell, Warner Bros. finally called it and won't remake Akira. But things aren't ending there, according to the Hollywood Reporter. WB's simply let go of the movie rights it acquired back in 2002. They've now returned to the manga's publisher, Kodansha; according to THR, several producers and talents are already 'lining up' for the chance to adapt it. No specific people were listed, ditto studios or streamers, but you can imagine all the big ones want it. WB's been threatening to do an Akira remake directed or written by either Stephen Norrington, Garry Whitta, Jaume Collet-Serra, or others. One of the more recent names thrown out there was Taika Waititi to direct and co-write in 2017, and it was even meant to release in May 2021. But after Waititi was locked in for Thor: Love & Thunder and other projects, the remake got pulled from the release schedule. Since then, there's been no word on it. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw before it, Akira now has a chance at a real future on the big screen. The question now is, who'll be the one to bring it to the masses, and how will that film change the source for a new audience that probably only knows it because of the endlessly replicated slide? While waiting to see how that shakes out, there's the in-development Akira anime series from Gundam studio Sunrise, assuming that ever leaves development hell. Want more io9 news? With ‘The Batman: Part II' Script In, Skepticism Rises About ‘Brave And The Bold'

The Batman After about sixty updates from James Gunn that Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part II sequel script would finally get turned in, it finally has, in fact, been turned in, as broadcast on social media yesterday. As of now, the film still has an October 1, 2027 release date after being pushed back several times, but we'll see if just over two years from script completion to release is actually enough time or if it may be pushed again. This news comes in conjunction with an eye-raising quip from trade outlet THR's Heat Vision blog, saying that while we can stop asking James Gunn about The Batman: Part II script… Batman: The Brave and The Bold is supposed to be the DCU's introduction to a separate, non-The Batman, Batman, but there's an eternal debate over whether Robert Pattinson's version may just be merged into the DCU instead. Gunn has said that The Brave and the Bold is still moving forward and its alleged 2028 release window has not been delayed. That said, he has always said, 'Never say never' when asked the Pattinson question. The Batman There are a lot of weird questions about all of this. The Brave and the Bold does not have a script or even a writer, at least not one that's publicly shared. The Brave and the Bold does have a director in the form of Andy Muschietti. He directed the DCEU's Flash movie, a film that Gunn raved about, but went on to be one of the biggest comic book movie bombs of all time, so it stands to reason to ask if Muschietti should still be doing the all-important introduction to the DCU's Batman. If there is no Pattinson merge, then we have two parallel, high-profile Batmans running around DC in films likely released within a year of each other, and The Batman Part II will have other spin-off shows like The Penguin and eventually a third film. The longer this goes, the more the needle would seem to lean in favor of a merge, something that most fans seem to be in support of, given the positive reception to The Batman's universe. It's a way different tone than what we're about to get with Gunn's Superman, but that's sort of the point and how it works in the comics as well. We just don't know, but at this point, things are getting a little weird with all this. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.
