Kelantan man claims trial to stabbing brother with stingray barb
PETALING JAYA : An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the Kota Bharu sessions court today to stabbing his older brother in the ribs with a stingray barb at a house in Bachok, Kelantan, on May 1.
Sinar Harian reported that Izwan Sukarnor, 36, entered his plea after the charge against him was read before judge Zulkifli Abllah.
He was accused of causing severe injury to his brother, Fakhran, 40, by stabbing him with a stingray barb.
He allegedly committed the offence at a house in Kampung Pauh Jabit, Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, at 9.30am.
Izwan was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, read together with Section 326A of the same code, which provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment or a whipping upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli while Izwan was unrepresented.
The court denied Izwan bail and set June 16 for re-mention of the case.
It is understood that the attack followed an argument between the brothers.

JEMPOL: A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested by police on suspicion of stealing two packets of black pepper sauce and two packets of mayonnaise worth RM41 from a supermarket in Bandar Seri Jempol. "The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955," he added.

Dead man found in ravine in Tapah
IPOH: A man's body was found in a 15m-deep ravine near Kampung Batu 23 at Jalan Pahang in Tapah. Tapah OCPD Supt Johari Yahya said police were informed about the matter by a member of the public on Saturday (July 12) at 12.43pm. Supt Johari said the victim, in his 30s, was found in a white shirt and black shorts. "The body was brought up with the assistance from firemen and medical personnel pronounced his death," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 13). "The state police K9 and forensics units were also roped in to assist with the investigations. "We however did not find any identification documents on the victim nor near him," he added. Supt Johari said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. "The victim was brought to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary for post-mortem on Sunday (July 13). "The cause of death was due to blunt force trauma," he said. "Bruises were found on his back and hands. "Fingerprints have been taken to identify the victim," he added. Supt Johari also urge those with information about the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact investigating officer Asst Supt Shahrul Shamsudin at 05-401 1222. "The police also want to warn and advise the people to not be involved in any activities that are against the law or cause public anxiety.

S'gor police open inquiry paper to identify crimes linked to eHATI
SHAH ALAM: The police have confirmed that an inquiry paper has been opened to identify any criminal offence linked to the eHATI marriage motivation programme. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said several witnesses will be called soon to obtain confirmation include the use of water that allegedly caused hallucinations. "Currently, information has only been obtained from third parties and the police will call up any individual involved to prove whether there criminal offences exist. "As such, the police will open an investigation paper to secure direct statements and confirmation about the use of certain water or other offences under the Penal Code," he said when contacted today. He said the police are working with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) according to their jurisdictions to obtain vital facts about the allegations against eHATI. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was reported to have asked Jais to look into allegations of immoral activities occurring during the organisation of eHATI programmes at a convention centre here and Jais director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad issued a statement stating that the case was being investigated under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
