Amid rumours of rift, Unni Mukundan shares screengrab of chat with Tovino Thomas
After the news broke, many wondered if things weren't going well between Unni and Tovino. Unni put those rumours to rest with a screenshot of his WhatsApp chat with Tovino. Tovino seemingly sent Unni a 10-second voice note, to which Unni reacted with a GIF. The rest of the chat is of the duo reacting with Mohanlal and Mammootty GIFs to each other. Tovino has yet to react to the issue publicly,y and he's busy promoting his latest release Narivetta on social media. Unni and Tovino have known each other for years now and have been supportive of each other's work.
After the police complaint was filed against Unni, he denied any wrongdoing. In a post on Facebook, the actor even claimed that Vipin tried to 'steal credit' for the success of Marco. 'It has come to my notice that many of the problems that adversely affect my job are caused by this person. I'm starting to get many complaints from new and famous film directors and producers for gossip and meaningless talk against Vipin,' he wrote, adding, 'He spread inhuman rumours about me. Contacted an actress and asked her to marry me. This led to a big fight between him and me.' Unni also claimed that he was an 'easy target', alleging those unhappy with him are using Vipin to threaten his career.
Vipin filed a police complaint against Unni at the Info Park police station in Kochi, alleging that the actor beat him up and verbally abused him. He spoke to the media afterwards and claimed that Unni had asked him to come to the parking lot of his building on Monday, where he was assaulted. The FIR states that Unni hit Vipin in the face, damaged his sunglasses and threatened to kill him. He also alleged that the actor was 'frustrated' he wasn't getting 'good films after Marco' and was showing that frustration on others. He also claimed that Gokulam Movies backed out of the project that Unni was to direct.

A long-lost son would return from the dead. Marriages, betrayals, miraculous recoveries - everything that made our jaws drop and eyes widen. With my dad, it was all about watching his eyes light up as he rewatched the same three Rajinikanth action sequences on loop. Or that emotional Hrishikesh Mukherjee film, which made him pretend he had "something in his eye". Our living room became a theatre of shorts, albeit with outdated tech and limited choices. But that was the thing. We didn't have options. Today, the rules have changed. Star Plus turned into Sony, which brought them reality shows; Sony turned into Colors, which brought them Big Boss; a version of some reality. Now, it's Netflix and other OTT platforms. Welcome to the age of the 'Netflix Parents'. The generation that once patiently waited for the 9 pm slot for their favourite show has now embraced OTT platforms with enthusiasm. Accessibility Like Never Before Earlier, content was linear and limited. Families watched whatever was available. Now, with OTT platforms, there's content for every taste and mood. Whether it's slow-burn romances, fast-paced thrillers, or docuseries about royal scandals, there's something for every parent. This also came with the increasing accessibility of smart TVs and cheaper plans on OTT platforms. For instance, in December 2021, Netflix introduced a Rs 149 plan for mobile phones. The barriers of language have melted, with the increased use of subtitles and dubbing in their language. Today, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video offer a wide range of languages for both subtitles and dubbing, making content more accessible to a wider audience. According to a recently released YouGov survey, more than seven in ten people in India (72%) prefer watching content in languages other than the ones they speak or understand, with subtitles. 3. More Free Time For many, parenting duties have scaled down. With children grown up and perhaps even moved out, this new-found time is being used not just sharing WhatsApp forwards, but for Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar. And unlike before, no one is judging them for watching "too much TV". 4. The Content Is Finally Relatable Gone are the days of slapstick comedy or over-the-top melodrama with a larger-than-life actor and his family. Today's content reflects real issues, complex emotions, flawed characters, and this resonates deeply with parents who've lived through their own rollercoasters. Shows like Delhi Crime, Guilty Minds, or Special Ops, Aarya offer depth or nostalgia, while series like Panchayat and Gullak hit closer to home. In a world increasingly fragmented by screens, Netflix and its OTT siblings are bringing families back to the same couch. Shared shows lead to shared jokes, theories, debates, and sometimes even tears. The living room becomes a space for bonding again, not just across generations, but across tastes. A New Kind Of Parenting These Netflix Parents are not just consuming content, they're engaging with it. They're recommending shows to their kids, arguing about cinematography, and even sharing memes. Ranchi: Friendship Day celebrations in Ranchi still carry the warmth of handwritten notes, friendship bands and quirky gifts, long before emojis and Instagram stories took over. Despite the digital wave, the city's youth and grown-ups continue to cherish old-school ways of celebrating friendship. Markets at Albert Ekka Chowk, GEL Church Complex, and Main Road were abuzz on Sunday with teenagers giggling over colourful bands, vintage-style greeting cards, and shelves lined up with mugs printed with quotes like "Partners in Crime" and "Yaari Forever." Arnav Mehta, a Class 12 student of St Xavier's, said, "I came here with my group just like we used to do in school. We didn't want WhatsApp messages this year; we're writing letters. It feels more personal." Shivani Kumari, a second-year B Com student, also said, "We've grown up seeing our seniors exchange bands and cards on the first Sunday of August. Even though we're in college now, the tradition still excites us. I bought scented pens to write individual notes." On the day, greeting card shops saw a welcome revival. At Firayalal, the tiny Archie's-style stalls were surrounded by school-goers and college students hunting for the perfect token of affection. "Friendship Day is that one occasion when cards sell more than phone covers. This year, handmade cards and quirky magnets are trending. I sold over 500 bands in just two days," said S K Tiwari, who runs a gift shop at the GEL Church shopping complex.
