New Delhi: India has many friendly countries around the world, and there are also enemy countries like Pakistan and China. However, despite enmity, countries need each other in many matters. Despite tensions in relations, trade relations between two countries do not end until war-like situations arise. Let's know what India buys from its enemy countries. From Pakistan
Rock salt: India is largely dependent on Pakistan for rock salt, especially during fasts and religious events. This salt coming from Pakistan's Khewra mine is a part of every Indian kitchen. However, from 2019-20, India has also started importing it from Saudi Arabia.
Multani mitti: India imports Multani Mitti from Pakistan, which is widely used in cosmetics. It is used in skin problems and Ayurvedic treatments.
Leather and Cotton: India imports leather goods and raw cotton in large quantities from Pakistan. These products are important for the Indian textile and leather industry. In 2022, India-Pak trade was $ 2.5 billion.
Fruits and dry fruits: Fresh fruits like watermelon and dry fruits (almonds, raisins) come to India in large quantities from Pakistan. They reach the markets of Delhi via Kashmir. From Turkey/Turkiye
India imports handmade carpets, mosaic lamps, and decorative tiles from Turkey. These are sold in markets like Hauz Khas in Delhi and Colaba in Mumbai.
Olive oil, dry fruits (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts), and cherries from Turkey are popular in India. There is a huge demand for them in supermarkets in big cities. From China
India imports electronic goods, such as televisions, sound recorders, and spare parts from China. Electronics worth $3,000 crore were imported in 2021-22, which accounts for 70% of the total imports. It meets India's technical requirements. From Bangladesh
India imports textiles and chemical products from Bangladesh, which are important for the fashion industry. Bangladesh's textile industry is an economical and quality source for India. This trade shows the strong economic ties between the two countries.

India pavilion inaugurated in New York to celebrate 200 Years of Assam Tea

'As we celebrate 200 years of Assam Tea, we do so not only with pride in our legacy but with a clear vision for the future,' he said during the inauguration on Sunday. Assam Tea is a global symbol of strength, flavour, and heritage that has shaped livelihoods, cultures, and economies since its discovery in 1823 along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, the chief secretary was quoted as saying in an official statement. Guwahati, Jun 30 (PTI) Assam's Chief Secretary Ravi Kota has inaugurated an India pavilion at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2025 in New York to celebrate 200 years of Assam Tea. For Assam, the pavilion serves as both a celebratory and strategic platform as Assam Tea stands as a bridge between tradition and innovation, Kota said. He pointed out four startups — Aromica Tea, Woolah Tea, Dorei Tea, and Earth Tea – 'provide a flavour of tea startups brewing innovation in Assam and so we wanted to bring these brands here'. 'They are innovating new blends of exotic tea, and I am confident that these innovations will gain global visibility from this event,' he added. He also highlighted the vital role played by Assam's small tea growers, who contribute to 40 per cent of the state's production, and also pointed out the transformative impact of bought-leaf factories in the ecosystem. Kota said that a key enabler of this thriving industry is the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, the largest in India by volume. Trading over 250 million kg annually, it provides buyers worldwide with access to a diverse array of Assam teas through a digital, transparent, and highly regulated platform. In 2024-25, more than 100 million kg of Assam tea were shipped to over 90 countries, generating nearly USD 285 million in exports. Major destinations include the United Kingdom, Russia, the UAE, Germany, Iraq, and China, underscoring Assam's position as a trusted supplier to both traditional and emerging tea markets. 'The Assam government is committed to deepening India-US relations through strategic initiatives involving AI, blockchain, and specialised summits,' Kota said. 'We are also planning to host the 'Heritage to Wellness' Tea Showcase across the US and sign MoUs with American universities, retailers, and innovation platforms to enhance traceability and promote sustainable partnerships,' he added. Consul General of India in New York Binaya S Pradhan was also present on the occasion. PTI DG DG ACD This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. India a key beneficiary of global portfolio diversification: Jonathan Schiessl

"The move we are seeing from global and US investors to broaden out their global portfolios to not just be US plus a little bit of other stuff and certainly we are seeing that happening and there is quite a bit of money coming out and searching for homes and EM is certainly benefited from that and India remains a big beneficiary of that," says Jonathan Schiessl , Westminster Asset Management . It is turning out to be a great patch for global equities . I mean, just not Indian equities, S&P 1% away from its all-time high, Nasdaq at an all-time high. The same market in the month of April and when I say same market, equities in the month of April were nervous because of tariff implementation. Is that adjustment over now? Jonathan Schiessl: You are quite right. If you look at where equities are globally and you look at the worries that markets have ingested, it is quite extraordinary really to see where we are. I think what has happened, there is certainly a case of exhaustion with regards to the constant news flow coming out of Washington, the tariffs, what is going on geopolitically in the Middle East, and investors are just for the moment ignoring it. And obviously, as the index is pushing higher, it is sucking in more and more of the bears who are being forced to reallocate back into equities. So, it is difficult, but there are clearly a lot of concerns that still remain out there and then, obviously on top of all that we have got seasonality, usually this is, the latter half of June and the next couple of months seasonally, usually the pretty much the worst part of the year for markets. Which have come back into India, are they a function of just the weakness in the dollar index and do you think it will continue? Jonathan Schiessl: Yes, I mean, if you look at ETF flows , obviously they have been very positive coming into India and into emerging markets as a whole. Certainly, the move we are seeing from global and US investors to broaden out their global portfolios to not just be US plus a little bit of other stuff and certainly we are seeing that happening and there is quite a bit of money coming out and searching for homes and EM is certainly benefited from that and India remains a big beneficiary of that.
