Duke football remains a long shot to win the ACC in 2025, per the betting markets
The Duke Blue Devils football team came within striking distance of an 11-win season last fall.
Head coach Manny Diaz finished with a 9-4 record, but the Blue Devils built a two-score lead over the Miami Hurricanes and took the College Football Playoff-bound SMU Mustangs to overtime. Duke lost its starting quarterback, leading rusher, and two leading receivers to either the transfer portal or NFL draft, but the Blue Devils pulled in commitments from Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah, Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Andrel Anthony, Harvard wideout Cooper Barkate, and Sam Houston State defensive back Caleb Weaver in an effort to reload for 2025.
And yet, according to the oddsmakers at BetMGM, the Blue Devils aren't even one of the top seven favorites to win the conference title in 2025.
The Clemson Tigers, last year's champions after a remarkable 34-31 victory over the Mustangs in the title game, will start the season as heavy favorites with +120 odds. The Blue Devils sit all the way down at +3000, eighth in the conference with an implied 3.2% chance to capture the ACC crown.

Team Odds Clemson Tigers +120 Miami Hurricanes +350 Louisville Cardinals +700 SMU Mustangs +750 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +1300 North Carolina Tar Heels +2000 Florida State Seminoles +2200 Duke Blue Devils +3000
The Hurricanes lost quarterback Cam Ward, a Heisman Trophy finalist and the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, but Diaz's former school will start as the second-leading ACC favorites after securing former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck in the transfer portal. The North Carolina Tar Heels will start the 2025 season with better odds to win the ACC than the Blue Devils after hiring six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick, and even the Florida State Seminoles open with lower odds despite their 2-10 record last fall.
Duke gets its next football season underway against Elon on August 28.

NFL Star Makes Shocking Statement on Philadelphia Eagles Fans

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Following his first NFL season, Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jared Verse came away with an unexpected take. The young pass rusher believes the Philadelphia Eagles has the best fans that don't root for the Rams. Quite the change of tune for the 24-year-old out of Florida State. "I got to give them that," Verse said on 'Whistle.' "I like when you kind of get into it. You're aggressive, you're loud, and all of that stuff. They stand by that, no doubt." Ahead of an Eagles-Rams clash in the 2025 NFC Divisional Round, Verse wasn't as complimentary to Philly fans. In fact, he claimed to have a hatred for them. "I hate Eagles fans," Verse stated. "They're so annoying. I hate Eagles fans." Despite not playing in front of Eagles fans outside of Los Angeles yet at the time, perhaps Verse got an idea of what they were like back when he lived in Pennsylvania during his earlier years. Running back Saquon Barkley #26 of the Philadelphia Eagles and linebacker Jared Verse #8 of the Los Angeles Rams interact after an NFL football game, at SoFi Stadium on November 24, 2024 in Inglewood, California. MoreHe gave the Eagles and their fan base perfect bulletin board material ahead of an intense playoff matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. What started out as a cold, windy game turned into a snow bowl. The Rams put up a good fight, but the Eagles found the edge and knocked the Rams out of the postseason en route to their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs a few weeks later. Although Verse's words back in January displayed a dislike for Eagles fans, it seems his feelings have turned into respect for the screaming fans in South Philly. When he was asked about the toughest fan base to face, in his opinion, Verse fired off the Eagles once again. Read More: NFL Writer Highlights Concerning Theories For Eagles' Saquon Barkley "Probably the Eagles! Playing the Eagles is like playing your rival in college," said Verse. "You never know what they are going to say, and they're going to try to like say disrespectful stuff. They are going to bring some stuff on you. They're not going to say something where you crossed the line, but they are going to say some stuff where you're like, 'Who are you talking to?'" With the Eagles defeating the Rams twice last season, and going on to win it all, Philly fans have likely let go of their mini-rivalry with Verse, especially now since he's been showing a lot of respect for their approach to spectating the game. Verse, the Defensive Rookie of the Year, will pay another trip to Philadelphia next season. After the Eagles visited the Rams in 2024, the schedule-makers will have the Rams and the Eagles battle it out at Lincoln Financial Field for a Divisional Round rematch. Jaguars should put Travis Hunter to the test as he chases 2-way dreams, Super Bowl champ says

Travis Hunter will come into the 2025 season with heightened expectations around his first year because of his pursuit to play both sides of the ball for the Jacksonville Jaguars. As Hunter and the Jaguars get set for training camp, Super Bowl champion Willie Colon said on Friday that his teammates should put him through the wringer to prepare him for what's to come during the season. "I know how I would approach a guy like this. I'm going to test his armor," Colon said on FOX Sports' "Breakfast Ball." "I'm going to see how tough you really are. If you want to be a two-way player in the NFL, I'm going to see if you're strong enough to be a two-way player. So, when I'm pulling around that corner, I'm going to test that 12 on your chest. "And so, for me, if I'm the Jacksonville Jaguars, listen to what the players are saying. They're curious if he can finish an 18-week season going both ways. I promise you he won't. They'll move him to one side of the ball, and that's cornerback, and allow him to be the best cornerback he can be. Because not only will you have to make tackles, you're going to have to withstand getting hit, too." Colon won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008. He played six seasons with the Steelers and three for the New York Jets. The Jaguars traded up to get Hunter in the draft — the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner who starred at Colorado as a wide receiver and cornerback. He was a two-time All-American at Colorado. He had 86 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 36 tackles with four interceptions. Chicago Bears All-Quarter Century Team roundup

Twenty-five years of Chicago Bears football are in the books since the turn of the century. Since the calendar turned over to 2000, the Bears have seen some success, but also plenty of woeful stretches. Early on, Chicago became a defensive force, claiming four division titles and reaching only their second Super Bowl in franchise history from 2000 to 2010. Since then, however, a 14-year playoff victory drought that is still ongoing and a one-sided fight with their rival Green Bay Packers have taken the spotlight. For all the ups and downs the Bears have seen, however, they had plenty of talent over the years across offense and defense. Multiple former Bears players are already in the Hall of Fame, while many more provided years of incredible play in the navy and orange. Here at Bears Wire, we're celebrating the best Bears players at each position over the last 25 years. We went position by position to name the Bears' All-Quarter Century Team for those who played from 2000 through 2024.
