AIADMK will win polls, form government in Tamil Nadu on its own: EPS to Stalin
In a video during his campaign on Saturday night, EPS shared an incident from the assembly proceedings where he said Stalin was on his feet and asked him directly why the AIADMK had tied up with the BJP after saying that no reconciliation was possible.
'I was shocked and wondered why the chief minister was asking me this question,' EPS said. 'I responded to him that AIADMK is our party and we will form an alliance as per our wish. I asked him why he was scared and he sat down.' EPS continued that Stalin was scared of the AIADMK-BJP alliance. The video of the rally went viral on Sunday.
'Stalin is also saying that the AIADMK will form a coalition government with BJP. Mr Stalin, we are not fools. AIADMK will win with a majority and form the government independently. We will decide if we want an alliance or not. We are not desperate like you who is a dynastic politician. We will do what the people want. And the people want the DMK out. We want such like-minded parties to join us. The BJP considers the DMK a corrupt party and wants to defeat them. That's why the BJP has joined us and more parties will join us and we will defeat you.'
AIADMK and BJP which came together this April after a 19-month of bitter separation have been contradicting each other on the issue of power sharing. EPS had previously clarified that there was no rift with the BJP on the issue, he added that he would be the chief ministerial candidate and he will make the decisions.
In response to EPS's remarks on DMK, party spokesperson A Saravanan said: 'If AIADMK is not a fool, then is EPS saying that Amit Shah is a fool? It is they who are scared and have mortgaged Tamil Nadu's rights. AIADMK has not won a single election after J Jayalalithaa's death. The DMK alliance has been tight and won every election in the last few years and will win the 2026 polls too.'
The pitch for a coalition government has sparked a political controversy and push back from the AIADMK. Senior AIADMK leaders had said that Tamil Nadu voters will reject a coalition government citing the example of the1980 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu – when the DMK and the Congress proposed a coalition government, people of Tamil Nadu rejected them and voted the AIADMK as the single largest party. Both the Dravidian majors, the DMK and the AIADMK, have historically resisted coalition governments in Tamil Nadu, even though they have been part of coalition governments at the national level. In the 2006 assembly elections, when no party had an absolute majority, then DMK chief M Karunanidhi formed a minority government with outside support from parties such as the Congress and Left parties.

Chennai: A day after Madras high court issued an interim injunction restraining DMK from sending one time password (OTP) verification messages during its 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign, the party made a change in its enrolment procedure eliminating the usage of OTP for verification. DMK organisational secretary R S Bharathi issued a statement on Tuesday asking DMK cadres to use the updated 'Makkaludan Stalin' mobile app for the membership drive, as the changes have been incorporated in the app. According to the changes, while an OTP will not be requested, the mobile number of a person is mandatory for enrolment. Different directions: on the AIADMK and the BJP
Three months after their uneasy revival of electoral ties, the AIADMK and the BJP are yet to find common ground on the nature of government that would be formed in Tamil Nadu were the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to win next year's Assembly elections. Union Home Minister and the BJP's principal electoral strategist, Amit Shah, had unilaterally declared in April that a 'coalition government' would be formed — a stance that he has reiterated multiple times — and that the BJP will be a part of such an arrangement. However, the AIADMK leader, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who passively watched Mr. Shah make the announcement, has yet to endorse the idea. He has maintained that the AIADMK would secure an absolute majority on its own. In an interview with The Hindu, he has argued that the people of Tamil Nadu are averse to coalition governments and that the AIADMK would meet their expectations for single-party rule. Just days ago, he had declared, 'we are not naive' to share power. He has clarified that the remark was made in response to the DMK's 'orchestrated campaign' that portrays the BJP as intent on 'swallowing' up the AIADMK. He has also insisted that efforts to create discord between the BJP and the AIADMK would fail and that the alliance remains 'cent per cent' intact. Historically, Tamil Nadu, unlike the other southern States, has never had a coalition government. The DMK and the AIADMK have relied on allies for vote transfers and electoral victories but have avoided sharing power. In a State where regional parties have effectively curtailed the influence of national parties, voters remain wary of any perceived attempts by national parties to dominate regional parties. Against this backdrop, Mr. Palaniswami's reluctance to endorse power-sharing ahead of the polls is understandable — there is no guarantee that he will maintain this stance later. He has also sent mixed signals. MM Hills tiger deaths raised in Lok Sabha
Mysuru: The killing of a tigress and her four cubs inside the MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary has now echoed even inside the Lok Sabha. The DMK and TMC MPs raised the issue in the ongoing Lok Sabha session. It can be recalled that on June 26, the tigress and her four cubs were found dead inside the sanctuary, which led to widespread anger against the forest department over its failure to save the big cats. DMK member A Raja and Sougata Ray of TMC raised the issue through an unstarred question. In his reply, Union minister Kirti Vardhan Singh informed that a SIT advised various interventions to bring down the wild animal-human conflict in the region. Inter-alia, the SIT recommended welfare measures for frontline staff, filling up staff vacancies, conflict management strategies with local communities, educational outreach, improving habitat and prey-base, besides developing monitoring protocols. According to the activists, there is nothing new in the SIT recommendations. "All the local issues and problems faced by the frontline staff were known to the forest department even before the incident," said activist Joseph Hover, former member of the wildlife board. "It is sad that MPs from other states raised questions about the killing of the tigress and her cubs. The state MPs are silent spectators to all the attacks on our forest," he said.
