Govt has adopted holistic approach to improve health of citizens: Amit Shah
Special attention has been given to every programme touching health, especially medical education and research, Shah said after performing the ground breaking ceremony of Poona Hospital and Research Centre (PHRC) Health City project. In the past 11 years, the Modi government has made all the arrangements to improve the health of the citizens of the country, he said. In the previous government, the health budget was Rs 37,000 crore and in 2025-26, Modi ji increased it to Rs 1.37 trillion, he said. Shah also inaugurated the Jairaj Sports and Convention Centre built by the Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj in Pune. The country is rapidly progressing on the path of development and a foundation is being laid for building a developed India in 2047, he said. Pune has led the entire country in knowledge, nationalism, social consciousness and freedom struggle, he said. Wherever Gujaratis have gone in the world, they have made Gujarat proud and Gujarati society has never been involved in any kind of controversy, he said. The habit of reading and learning about history must be inculcated in children, Shah said. He reiterated that the four-decade-old Naxal menace will be eradicated from the country by March 31 next year.

New Delhi: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off Ayushman Bharat registration vans in Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Sunday. Addressing the event, the BJP chief slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for not using Rs 1700 crore under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme for public welfare. He said, "Under PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, we had given Rs 1700 crore to Delhi between 2021 to February 2025, but not one penny was spent, and now the responsibility of the expenditure of this fund for the public welfare has fallen on the shoulders of (Delhi CM) Rekha ji." Continuing his attack against AAP, he added, "We were ready to quench Delhi's thirst with water, but you kept the vessel upside down, so what could be done? On February 20, you turned up the vessel, so you got Ayushman Bharat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ready to provide Rs 5 lakh for the poor's healthcare since September 2, 2017. Their pride came in between. They did injustice to the poor." Lauding Ayushman Arogya Mandir , Nadda targeted Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinic and called AAP shortsighted. "A wise man is farsighted and thinks of Ayushman Arogya Mandir, and shortsighted ones bring Mohalla Clinics. From the time a mother conceives a child to the time the child turns two, Ayushman Arogya Mandir takes care of all the vaccinations. India is playing a lead role in reproductive and child health care," JP Nadda said. Last month, on June 17, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Ministers Parvesh Verma and Manjinder Singh Sirsa inaugurated Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the national capital. After the inauguration, Manjinder Singh Sirsa informed that 33 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs were inaugurated with excellent infrastructure and facilities. "A total of 33 Arogya Mandirs have been inaugurated today, and they have excellent infrastructure", Manjinder Singh Sirsa said. Meanwhile on May 18, in a major boost to healthcare under the Pradhan Mantri Vay Vandana Yojana , Delhi Minister Ashish Sood distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to senior citizens aged 70 and above in Janakpuri, West Delhi.

Himachal: AIIMS Bilaspur sets target to make state self-reliant in healthcare
Bilaspur: The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bilaspur is all set to make Himachal Pradesh a self-reliant state in health care. The AIIMS Bilaspur Director, Prof DN Sharma, shared significant milestones of the institute's progress with the media on Sunday, highlighting rapid infrastructure expansion, medical breakthroughs, and a focused drive toward cancer research and trauma care. In just less than three years since its inception, AIIMS Bilaspur has increased its inpatient capacity from 690 to 728 beds, catering to over 1,500 patients daily, with more than 4,000 indoor admissions every month. The institute also recorded its first successful kidney transplant, a major achievement in its clinical journey. Over 30,000 patients are being treated monthly, and the hospital has developed a strong community outreach programme, backed by interdisciplinary collaborations and state-of-the-art equipment, including an MRI facility. AIIMS Bilaspur is equipped with four times more ventilators than other hospitals in Himachal Pradesh, ensuring robust emergency preparedness. With a strong academic backbone, the institute now has 620 students, including 100 MBBS seats, and offers 17 broad specialities. However, Prof. Sharma noted that some faculty positions in medical gastroenterology remain vacant, though recruitment drives are ongoing. Cancer care remains a major focus area, with work underway for a dedicated Trauma Centre, and a proposal for Phase 2 expansion valued at Rs 178.05 crore. A feasibility survey for Rs 332 crore has also been conducted to support future developments, including enhanced cancer treatment infrastructure. AIIMS Bilaspur is also actively participating in ICMR-backed research projects on breast and cervical cancer and has seen high utilisation in its radiation oncology department, treating 83 patients regularly, with daily attendance ranging from 20 to 30 patients, nearing 900 total so far. Prof Sharma emphasised lifestyle-related cancers and rising cases such as lung cancer, along with Delhi topping the chart for prostate cancer prevalence. AIIMS Bilaspur is also expected to soon be equipped with PET scan and titration control facilities to enhance diagnostic precision. AIIMS Bilaspur is now among the fastest-growing AIIMS in the country, both in terms of infrastructure and services and aims to ensure that people in the region no longer need to travel outside Himachal Pradesh for advanced treatment.
