Back-to-Back Snake Sightings Trigger Panic at GMCH
The first incident took place around 2pm in the paying ward, where a 2-foot-long non-venomous Pandedivad snake was seen slithering inside. Just an hour later, a second snake—believed to be of the same species and measuring about 3 feet—was found in Ward No. 5, a paediatric ward. The sighting sparked fear among patients, visitors, and hospital staff, especially due to the presence of children.
Wildlife Welfare Society members Nitish Bhandakkar and Nikhil Jamnik safely rescued both snakes, which were later released back into their natural habitat.

Two ambulance staff held for dumping injured man near health centre in Prayagraj, resulting in his death
Prayagraj: Two employees of the ambulance service were arrested by a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and Kaushambi police on Sunday for allegedly dumping an injured man near a community health centre (CHC) in Alamchandra village on July 31. The man died while undergoing treatment at SRN hospital on Aug 1. Kaushambi SP Rajesh Kumar said, "On July 31, the village watchman alerted the police about an unidentified man lying unconscious near Pulia Road. Local police responded promptly, taking the man to Manjhanpur district hospital for treatment. Due to his serious condition, he was referred to SRN hospital in Prayagraj, where he succumbed to his injuries." After scanning CCTV footage, mobile call details, cops managed to arrest both the ambulance employees, Naresh Kumar and Ashish Mishra, near Sayyad Sarawa road. Taking a serious note of the incident, Kaushambi police have registered an FIR under relevant sections against the ambulance employees. Police said that both ambulance employees did not perform their duties sincerely and dumped the unconscious man near Pulia Road instead of getting him admitted to the hospital. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The ambulance employees confessed to the police that they were informed by a man on July 31 about an unconscious individual lying near Mundera Mandi Road in Prayagraj, with foam coming out of his mouth. The 108 ambulance crew responded to the call and initially headed to Bhagwatpur's 100-bed hospital. However, en route, they decided against taking the unconscious man there, anticipating no doctors would be on duty and the hospital staff might refuse admission due to the lack of an attendant. Instead, they turned back towards the Prayagraj-Kanpur highway and proceeded to Alamchandra community health centre (CHC). The ambulance crew, anticipating a similar situation at Alamchandra CHC due to the absence of doctors, decided not to take the unconscious man there. Instead, they abandoned him near Pulia Road and left. Later, someone dialled 108 and 112, and the police took the unconscious man to Manjhanpur district hospital. The doctors there assessed his condition and referred him to SRN hospital for further treatment. Karnataka to set up organ transplant and retrieval centres in 22 medical college hospitals
Bengaluru: Months after providing a Rs 1-crore fund to Victoria Hospital, affiliated with Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, for an organ transplant and retrieval centre, the govt now aims to set up similar centres in the 22 medical college hospitals across the state. Health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who made this announcement at an event organised by Rotary Club of Organ Donation recently, told TOI, "While there is already a policy in place regarding organ retrieval centres in medical education institutes, implementation is missing." According to the health department data, 28 medical institutes have non-transplant human organ retrieval centres (NTHORC). This number includes a handful of medical education institutes under the medical education department. The demand for organ transplants is far greater than the donations and there is still a lot of stigma about organ donation. "There are a lot of families that are unwilling to donate the organs of their deceased kin," said a health department official. Rao agreed grief counsellors were needed in govt hospitals to promote organ donations ethically. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo "We have to make the existing centres work as well and talk to families of brain-dead patients about this (organ donation) as an option to help other people. It requires guidance to families about the many lives organ donation can save." Medical education minister Sharanprakash Rudrappa Patil believes there is lack of infrastructure for the proper functioning of the system. "If the health department supports infrastructure, we can do it. They need to fund us. We are discussing that." He added a committee will also evaluate where these retrieval centres, in addition to transplant centres, are most needed in the state. "Organ retrieval centres will be of great help when there are transplant centres nearby. And transplants do not take place in medical colleges but in super-specialty hospitals. We see this in Bengaluru. When we expand retrieval centres across the state, we need to look at also establishing transplant centres. We will evaluate it, and discussions are ongoing with the health department for both transplant and retrieval centres," the minister said. AAP officials review progress of anti drug campaign in Ludhiana ahead of chief minister meeting
1 2 3 Ludhiana: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders spearheading Punjab's anti-drug drive held strategy talks with police and district officials on Saturday, ahead of a key meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann scheduled for Monday. The session, held at a resort on Ferozepur Road, saw AAP Ludhiana incharge Balbir Chaudhary and 'Nasha Mukti Morcha' zone incharge Sukhjit Singh review local progress under the 'Yudh Nashe Virudh' (War Against Drugs) campaign. Officials said the meeting was aimed at preparing a report for the CM on Ludhiana's enforcement and rehabilitation efforts. Chaudhary briefed attendees on local de-addiction and awareness initiatives, stressing continuous outreach to Punjab's youth. Singh claimed growing public engagement with the anti-drug movement, but urged stronger collaboration between civil society and law enforcement to deepen impact. "Coordination across the administration, police, and grassroots activists is key," Singh said, noting that Monday's meeting with Mann will evaluate government scheme effectiveness, propose de-addiction centre expansions, and discuss bolstering local policing capabilities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo The 'Yudh Nashe Virudh' campaign, launched by the Mann government shortly after AAP's 2022 electoral victory in Punjab, aims to tackle the state's long-standing drug problem through a mix of law enforcement, rehabilitation, and awareness. The 'Nasha Mukti Morcha' (Drug-Free Front), AAP's volunteer wing in the campaign, has been organising rallies, community outreach events, and facilitating rehab referrals across districts. Punjab has struggled with drug abuse for more than a decade, particularly in border areas where narcotics smuggling from across the Pakistan border remains a major challenge. In recent years, synthetic drugs and injectable opioids have worsened the crisis, prompting calls for a multi-pronged response. The AAP government has vowed to make anti-drug action a top priority. Its critics, however, argue that while raids and arrests have increased, structural issues such as underfunded rehab centres and weak inter-agency coordination persist. Monday's CM-level review is expected to address many of these concerns and plot the next stage of the campaign.
