Bihar CM launches projects worth ₹21,406 cr to improve rural connectivity
The projects include the construction of 11,346 roads and 730 small bridges.
The CM virtually inaugurated the projects during a function held at his official residence at 1, Anne Marg, here.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), "It is worth noting that under the Rural Roads Strengthening and Management Programme, a new component, Mukhyamantri Gramin Sadak Unnayan Yojana, was launched in 2024. Under this programme, construction of 5,047 roads (total length of 8,893 km) commenced on Thursday, with a total approved cost of ₹6,198 crore. Additionally, foundation stones were laid for 4,079 roads (total length of 6,484 km), with a total approved cost of ₹5,627 crore".
Through the Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana, the previously implemented Mukhyamantri Setu Yojana has been revived by the RWD to construct missing bridges, access roads, and approaches on rural roads to improve connectivity, the statement added.
"Under this scheme, work has begun on 409 bridges, with a total approved cost of ₹1,859 crore, and five additional schemes under the state plan with a total cost of ₹48 crore. Foundation stones have been laid for 295 bridges under this scheme, with an approved cost of ₹1,792 crore, and 24 other schemes under the state plan with a cost of ₹279 crore", the statement added.
Additional chief secretary of RWD Dipak Kumar Singh gave a detailed presentation to the CM on the projects related to rural roads and bridges that were inaugurated or whose foundation stones were laid.
Singh informed the CM and other dignitaries about the construction status of rural roads and bridges under various schemes of the department.
"Addressing the gathering, the CM said the RWD is doing commendable work in constructing and maintaining rural roads and bridges. He congratulated the department for its efforts. He emphasised that through various schemes, including the Rural Roads Strengthening and Management Programme, the Mukhyamantri Gramin Sampark Yojana (Residual), the Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana, and the Sulabh Samparkata Yojana, the state government is trying to ensure that pucca roads reach every hamlet in the villages to ease transportation for the people", the statement said.
The CM stressed that the projects must be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Others who were present on the occasion included Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Ashok Choudhary, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit and other senior officials.

CM promises relief from waterlogging
1 2 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday laid the foundation for the construction of roads over two major drains in Patna — the Kurji drain (also known as the Rajiv Nagar drain), with an estimated cost of Rs 181 crore, and the Anandpuri Drain, costing Rs 91 crore. The ceremonies took place near Rajiv Nagar on the Ashiana-Digha Road and near Rajapur Pul, respectively. "I am happy the urban development and housing department has initiated these important works. Once completed, they will resolve waterlogging and provide smooth traffic movement through the construction of two- and four-lane roads over the drains. The city will also look cleaner and more organised," the CM said. Following the events, the CM inspected both sites and called for their timely completion. The Anandpuri drain, stretching 4.05km from Baba Chowk to the Rajapur Pul drainage pumping station, channels water from four wards, including Baba Chowk, Shivpuri, Patel Nagar, Rajvanshi Nagar, Boring Road and Anandpuri. The project includes a new drain structure and road construction across 2.61km and 0.96km on Indira Sinha Path. Precast manhole covers and trash racks will be used to aid maintenance. At present, the drain from Baba Chowk to Atal Path is unlined with a damaged 12-foot road running along one side. Once completed, the project is expected to ease monsoon flooding and improve traffic flow with a two-lane road atop the drain box, along with street lighting and beautification. Similarly, the Kurji drain, approximately 4.26km long, runs from the Digha drainage pumping station to Ashiana Road in Kurji. A central load-bearing drain and a four-lane road will be constructed over it, supported by street lighting, precast manholes, and trash racks. The project aims to significantly enhance both drainage and traffic infrastructure in the area. JD(U) begins women outreach drive
After the BJP, its alliance partner JD(U)'s women's wing has launched an intensive public outreach campaign — from the state to the booth level — to connect with the state's women voters as the assembly polls in the state are drawing near. Honorarium of cooks, watchmen & instructors doubled: Nitish
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Friday said his govt has doubled the honorarium for cooks, night watchmen, and physical education & health instructors working in the state govt schools. "The honorarium for cooks working under the education department's midday meal programme has been doubled from Rs 1,650 to Rs 3,300 per month. Similarly, the honorarium for night guards in the secondary/higher secondary schools has also been doubled from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per month," the CM said in a post on X. "The remuneration for physical education & health instructors has also been doubled from Rs 8,000 to Rs 16,000 per month. Additionally, their annual salary increment has also been doubled from Rs 200 to Rs 400. This will boost the morale of the working personnel, encouraging them to perform their duties with greater enthusiasm and dedication," Nitish said in the post in Hindi. In the beginning of his post, Nitish said, "Since the formation of the govt in Nov 2005, we have been consistently working to improve the education system. In 2005, the total budget of education (dept) was Rs 4,366 crore, which has now increased to Rs 77,690 crore. Significant improvements in the education system have been made through the appointment of a large number of teachers, construction of new school buildings, and development of infrastructure. " "Cooks, night guards, and physical education & health instructors have played an important role in strengthening the education system. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to double the honorarium of these personnel by making a "respectable increase" in their remuneration," the CM said. Welcoming the govt's decision, JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha on Friday said by doubling the honorarium of these personnel, the CM has once again proven that his governance style is a testament to human sensitivity, social justice, and inclusive development. "This decision will instil pride, stability, and hope in the thousands of families," Kushwaha said.
