Geagea stressed to US envoy that all illegal arms in Lebanon should be handed over to the army
During the meeting, they discussed the ideas contained in the working paper Barrack presented to Lebanese officials.
Geagea emphasized that 'the demand to collect all illegal weapons, whether Palestinian or Lebanese, from the Lebanese state is fundamentally a Lebanese demand and paves the way for the establishment of a real state in Lebanon.'
He emphasized that 'without dissolving all illegal and unlawful military and security organizations, a real state cannot be achieved in Lebanon.'
After a round of discussions on this topic and various other topics in Lebanon and the Middle East, Barrack and the accompanying delegation had dinner that was hosted by Geagea and his wife, where they continued their discussions on the topics raised.
Barrack, a Lebanese American billionaire is a close friend of President Trump . He currently serves as the US ambassador to Turkey and Trump's Special Envoy for Syria
Barrack said on Monday he was 'unbelievably satisfied' with Lebanon's reply to a U.S. proposal on disarming Hezbollah, following meetings in Beirut held hours after Israel launched new air strikes and a cross-border incursion.

The United States is imposing sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the United Nations' special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, over her efforts to have the International Criminal Court take action against US and Israeli officials, companies and executives, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement on Wednesday. Rubio accused Albanese of bias and said her efforts to prompt the court to 'investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute' US and Israeli citizens have infringed on those countries' sovereignty. 'We will not tolerate these campaigns of political and economic warfare, which threaten our national interests and sovereignty,' Rubio said. A spokesperson for Albanese did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Albanese, an Italian lawyer and academic, has called on states at the UN Human Rights Council to impose an arms embargo and cut off trade and financial ties with Israel, alleging it is waging a 'genocidal campaign' in Gaza. In a report published earlier this month, Albanese accused over 60 companies, including major arms manufacturers and technology firms, of involvement in supporting Israeli settlements and military actions in Gaza. The report called on companies to cease dealings with Israel and for legal accountability for executives implicated in alleged violations of international law. Albanese is one of dozens of independent human rights experts mandated by the United Nations to report on specific themes and crises. The views expressed by special rapporteurs do not reflect those of the global body as a whole. Since returning to office on January 20, President Donald Trump has stopped US engagement with the UN Human Rights Council, extended a halt to funding for the Palestinian relief agency UNRWA and ordered a review of the UN cultural agency UNESCO. US State Dept spokesperson urges Lebanon to advance Hezbollah disarmament and urgent reforms after Barrack's visit
A U.S. State Department spokesperson, speaking following U.S. envoy Tom Barrack's visit to Beirut, emphasized that private diplomatic discussions with Lebanon should not be publicly characterized. 'As Ambassador Barrack has said publicly, he was unbelievably satisfied with the initial response by the Lebanese government, but he also said we must now get into the details,' the official said. On the security front, the spokesperson affirmed that progress has been made by the Lebanese army in disarming Hezbollah in the south, but more remains to be done. 'We need the Lebanese state to do more to fully remove all weapons, and infrastructure from Hezbollah and non-state actors across the country,' the spokesperson added. However, security reforms alone will not suffice, as Lebanon must urgently pass critical economic and judicial reforms to restore financial stability and regain international confidence. Parliament must act swiftly to pass legislation on bank resolution and judicial independence, the official confirmed. They further noted: 'As Ambassador Barrack said while in Beirut, Lebanon must utilize this moment to make progress."
