Geagea stressed to US envoy that all illegal arms in Lebanon should be handed over to the army

Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea received on Monday US Presidential Envoy Tom Barrack, accompanied by US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson. During the meeting, they discussed the ideas contained in the working paper Barrack presented to Lebanese officials. Geagea emphasized that 'the demand to collect all illegal weapons, whether Palestinian or Lebanese, from the Lebanese state is fundamentally a Lebanese demand and paves the way for the establishment of a real state in Lebanon.' He emphasized that 'without dissolving all illegal and unlawful military and security organizations, a real state cannot be achieved in Lebanon.' After a round of discussions on this topic and various other topics in Lebanon and the Middle East, Barrack and the accompanying delegation had dinner that was hosted by Geagea and his wife, where they continued their discussions on the topics raised. Barrack, a Lebanese American billionaire is a close friend of President Trump . He currently serves as the US ambassador to Turkey and Trump's Special Envoy for Syria Barrack said on Monday he was 'unbelievably satisfied' with Lebanon's reply to a U.S. proposal on disarming Hezbollah, following meetings in Beirut held hours after Israel launched new air strikes and a cross-border incursion. Barrack' s proposal, delivered to Lebanese officials during his last visit on June 19 , would see Hezbollah fully disarmed within four months in exchange for Israel halting air strikes and withdrawing troops from posts in south Lebanon they still occupy following a war last year. Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran was severely weakened after its war with Israel that started on October 8, 2023 and ended last November . Iran created Hezbollah in 1982 as a branch of al Al Quds force the foreign arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guard ( IRGC). Hezbollah's former leader Hassan Nasrallah w, who was assassinated by Israel last September pledged allegiance to Iran and its Supreme leader

Geagea Slams Response to Barrack as ‘Illegal and Unofficial'

Leader of the Lebanese Forces Party Samir Geagea considered that the response to be presented by the three leaders today to US envoy Tom Barrack is "unconstitutional, illegal, and even unofficial." He explained that the Prime Minister is required to convene the cabinet without delay, after having briefed the ministers on Barrack's paper, which ought to be discussed in a cabinet meeting or successive meetings with full ministerial presence to adopt the official constitutional position. "The fate and future of the Lebanese are being determined at this very moment, and the slightest mistake or shortcoming by any of the key officials could drag the country into the abyss, or at best, to stagnation, paralysis, and a gradual regression," cautioned Geagea. The LF Chief considered that Hezbollah, with its bravado, appears determined to inflict further losses, paralysis, and missed opportunities on the country, based on rigid ideological foundations and well-known external connections. "The Council of Ministers, and by extension the Parliament, are called upon to shoulder their responsibilities in these critical circumstances and not waste any further opportunity, leaving the country in a state of instability and uncertainty until further notice," Geagea concluded.

Beirut - (Saba): Preliminary results from the third phase of the local elections, which covered the Bekaa and Beirut, showed a victory for the Lebanese Forces Party in Zahle, the Socialist Party in Rashaya, and Hezbollah and the Amal Movement in Baalbek and Hermel. News reports on Monday indicated that after most polling stations were counted, the results in the Beirut municipality showed a victory for the Lebanese Forces and Fouad Makhzoumi (12 Christian and 12 Muslim members). Beirut recorded a low voter turnout of around 20%. In Zahle, the capital of the Bekaa, the results showed a victory for the Lebanese Forces Party. In Baalbek-Hermel, the Hezbollah-Amal Movement alliance won in all the towns in which they ran. In Rashaya, according to preliminary figures, the Progressive Socialist Party won. The Bekaa witnessed higher voter turnout than Beirut, with voter turnout in areas such as Zahle reaching 46.25%, West Bekaa 42.95%, and Baalbek 48.81%.
