Maharashtra legislative assembly may discuss BJP MLA Mungantiwar's bill against religious conversion
Mumbai: A bill introduced by BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar to prevent forcible religious conversions could be taken up for discussion in the current session of the state legislature. It was initially introduced in the March session of the legislature. The bill seeks to prevent religious conversion by "force, inducement or fraudulent means". The private member bill proposes a punishment of imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of Rs 5,000 for those found guilty. If the victim of forcible conversion belongs to the SC or ST community, then the period of imprisonment should be raised to two years and the fine should be increased to Rs 10,000, the bill suggests. In his objectives for introducing the bill, Mungantiwar said, "Forced religious conversion involves coercion, deception or taking undue advantage of a person's poverty or by immoral means. This is highly undesirable." Santanu Sen moves HC over suspension
1 2 Kolkata: Former Trinamool MP Santanu Sen on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court, challenging the West Bengal Medical Council's decision to suspend his registration. The move came a day after the council's president, Sudipto Roy, briefed the media about the suspension owing to the "infamous conduct" by Sen, who used FRCP on his letterhead. FRCP is a fellowship, which WBMC claims, is misleading when put on a letterhead. Justice Amrita Sinha granted Sen the permission to file the petition. The matter will be next heard on Monday. "During Thursday's hearing at the WBMC, I produced everything required to prove my FRCP. While I was told the council would let me know its decision, I learned from media reports about the suspension, though I am yet to get an official communication. This decision is illegal, done out of personal vendetta," Sen told TOI. An MBBS from RG Kar, Sen said he updated his PG in radiology with WBMC. He said his FRCP from Glasgow was an honorary title that did not need registration. WBMC president Sudipto Roy on Thursday told reporters FRCP was "not a degree but a fellowship and that putting this in the letterhead was misleading, amounting to infamous misconduct". Sen said he even deposited Rs 10,000 as WBMC to get his FRCP registered. "This decision to suspend Sen's registration is uncalled for as he has not violated any norms of either WBMC or IMC Act. It is unfortunate personal and political issues were seeping into professional issues. We hope justice will be granted by court," said psychiatrist Ranjan Bhattacharyya, joint secretary IMA Bengal.

Remove Ads New Delhi: A Group of Ministers (GoM) on goods and services tax (GST) revenue analysis met Friday to discuss falling collections trends in some large states and measures to curb input credit frauds and fake invoices which has resulted in revenue loss worth Rs 2 lakh crore over GoM, chaired by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, will meet again to decide detailed and technology based measures to curb fraudulent practices ahead of the next GST council meeting."Chaired a meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on GST Revenue Analysis to review state-wise revenue trends and identify actionable strategies for improved GST collection," Sawant said in a post on the social media portal GoM also expressed concerns over the falling GST collections trend in some of the larger states in the recent few months and asked for the specific reason for the slow growth to take state specific trends into account, people aware of the discussion the month of June GST collections grew at 6.2%, the slowest in the past four trend reflected single-digit growth in major states like Maharashtra (6%), Karnataka (8%) and Tamil Nadu (4%). Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh showed a decline in monthly collections by 1% and 4%, meeting also discussed technology-driven solutions like AI-enabled monitoring tools.
