The Karnataka government declared 14 drugs manufactured by different companies 'substandard' on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, and warned people against the public consumption of the same, reported the news agency PTI.
The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration department ordered the chemists, wholesalers, doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes not to keep stock of these drugs, and also directed against selling or usage of these medicines and cosmetics, according to the agency report citing the official statement.
'In case they hold any stock, they are requested to inform the concerned area Drugs Inspector or Assistant Drugs Controller. The public is also advised not to use these drugs or cosmetics,' said the FSDA department, according to the agency report.

2. Pomol-650 (Paracetamol tablets I P 650 mg) by Aban Pharmaceuticals (batch no: 13-4536).

These are among the 14 drugs which were marked as 'substandard' by the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration department on Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
The department also requested strict compliance to be imposed on these companies and drugs to safeguard public health, reported the news agency.
According to Mint's earlier report, India is aiming to give a significant boost to its production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes for drug manufacturing to reduce the nation's pharma sector dependence on China imports.
The updated PLI scheme will include more molecules used in manufacturing key starting materials (KSMs), drug intermediates, and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), according to the 3 June 2025 report citing official communication.
Details on such incentives as allocation, capacity, and incentive ceiling for the upgraded drug PLI scheme are being worked on, according to the Mint's report, citing a department official.

Girl With HIV Raped, Forced To Abort At Maharashtra Children's Home

Latur: An HIV-infected girl has alleged that she was raped for two years at a children's shelter in Maharashtra's Latur and was forced to undergo an abortion. In her police complaint, the 16-year-old said that she was raped by an employee four times between July 13, 2023 and July 23 this year at Sevalay, a shelter home for HIV-infected children. She was taken to a hospital after she fell ill, where tests revealed that she was four months pregnant. The accused then got a doctor who performed an abortion procedure without her consent, the news agency PTI reported, citing an official. "She was also threatened not to disclose the ordeal to anyone," the official said. The girl then wrote a letter to officials and dropped it into a complaint box. The institution's management, however, did not help her and tore up the letter, the official said. Sevalay's founder, Ravi Bapatle, superintendent, Rachna Bapatle, and employees Amit Mahamuni and Pooja Waghmare are among those arrested. Sevalay, whose tagline is a "happy home of children", houses 23 boys and seven girls, all of whom are HIV infected, according to its website. All the workers in the institution work for free, the website said.

Agitating ASHA workers in Kerala welcome Centres incentive hike

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 26 (PTI) The ASHA workers in Kerala, who have been agitating for the last several months against the state government, demanding a hike and post-retirement benefits, on Saturday welcomed the Centre's reported decision to increase their fixed monthly incentive. They said the union government's decision would be beneficial for over 10 lakh ASHA workers in the country. There are media reports that the Centre approved a proposal to hike the fixed monthly incentive of ASHAs from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500 during the recent 9th meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG). The media also reported that the retirement benefits of the ASHA workers would be increased by the Centre, too. S Mini, state vice president of the Kerala ASHA Health Workers Association (KAHWA) whose members are carrying out the indefinite agitation in front of the Secretariat here, said they had already carried out two Parliament marches raising the same demand. 'We welcome the union government's decision to increase the fixed monthly incentive. The incentive had been the same so far since the scheme was launched 18 years ago. We have been demanding the Centre to increase this," she told reporters here. She said the Members of the Parliament from the state visited them when they began the agitation in front of the Secretariat on Feb 10 and assured them to take up the matter with the union government. The present decisions were a continuation of the assurance given by the MPs, she said. The leader said the fixed monthly incentive of the ASHA workers was now raised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500 and the retirement benefit was increased from Rs 20,000 to 50,000 by the Centre. 'But, we will end our ongoing agitation only when the state government increases the honorarium as demanded by us," Mini said, adding that the state authorities could enhance it easily. A section of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers have been protesting outside the secretariat since February 10, demanding a hike in their honorarium from Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000 and a post-retirement benefit of five lakh rupees.
