Niko Kovac (at the press conference): 'That was our best half at this tournament. I was very satisfied with the first period. We were sharp, we defended on the front foot and we put the opposition under stress. In addition to the two goals, we created two more huge opportunities for Serhou (editor's note: Guirassy) from which we could have scored another one or perhaps even two. Then we would have taken in a very comfortable lead at half-time. What was then important in the second-half was that we fought to see the game through, with commitment and with passion. The opposition had possession of the ball but no great chances. We had a few problems with balls in behind the defence. But okay. The main thing is that we won. We're now in the last eight, and that's more than we could've imagined. For us and for German football, it is a big thing that there are two clubs in the quarter-finals. Real Madrid are a great team with many good individual players. We're seeing the football from them that Xavi played in Leverkusen: very vertical and very quick. We're looking forward to the clash but we know we're outsiders. But in football, you have to play 90 minutes first. And if we put in the performance we did today, especially in the first period, we think we have a chance.'
Serhou Guirassy (to DAZN): 'I think we had a very good first half. The second was slightly more difficult but we were mentally strong and won. We're therefore all happy this evening. I think I could have scored at least three goals. But I'm satisfied. The most important thing is winning the match. I'm expecting a very tough game against Real Madrid. We're prepared.'

Gregor Kobel (to BVB TV): 'It was a very good game from us in the first period. In the second half, it's sometimes normal for there to be a change of momentum because the opposition have nothing left to lose. We conceded a goal early on but then kept going brilliantly until the end. We didn't give much away – perhaps occasionally but I was then on hand. But I think that overall, it was a good performance from us. Now we have an amazing game against an outstanding opponent, who will definitely demand a lot from us. We'll have to hold our own, step on the gas and fight – and then we'll see.'

Niklas Süle (to BVB TV): 'The stadium, the pitch, the time and everything that went along with it was more the kind of thing that we're used to. It was not as boiling hot as in the first three matches. I think that for the most part, we played our best game of the tournament. We were well prepared. In the second half, we no longer applied pressure on the ball and didn't get out so well at the back. We had a bit of luck in one or two situations at that point. But we held our own well. Not everything is easy in a tournament. It is a great achievement to reach the last eight, especially when you also consider which teams have already been eliminated.'

Lewis Hamilton warns against rushing into making sequel to F1 The Movie

SILVERSTONE, UK — Lewis Hamilton has warned against rushing into making a sequel for the Formula One movie despite its box office success, saying it should be allowed to 'simmer for a while'. Seven-time F1 world champion Hamilton served as a producer on F1 The Movie, which starred Brad Pitt and was released last week worldwide. Advertisement Hamilton worked with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Joe Kosinski, the team behind Top Gun: Maverick, to try and make the F1 film the most authentic racing movie ever made. It has proved to be a commercial success, ranking as the No 1 movie worldwide and reportedly drawing in more than $140million in box office sales. Earlier this week, Variety reported that a potential sequel was being mooted, having ranked as the most successful film made by Apple to date. Asked by The Athletic if he'd spoken to Bruckheimer or Kosinski if there had been talks about a potential F1 sequel, Hamilton replied: 'Well if I had, I wouldn't be telling you right now, firstly! 'No, I saw someone talk about it, but it's like, we literally just finished it. So I think the last thing we want right now is a sequel. 'It's been four years in the making, it was a lot of work, particularly for like Joe. It's time away from your family, time away from your kids. And also, it needs to just simmer for a while. Let's enjoy it. 'I think the worst thing we probably could do is rush into doing a sequel. Most sequels are way worse. So we don't need to rush it.' The F1 movie took more than two years to film, and led to Pitt and co-star Damson Idris training to be real-life racing drivers, while the F1 paddock opened its doors to allow filming to take place on-site at grand prix weekends. It meant the real-life F1 grid heavily featured in the film, and there were a number of cameos for team principals including Mercedes' Toto Wolff, Ferrari chief Fred Vasseur and Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing. Hamilton was heavily involved in the writing of the script and the editing process to help ensure the film was as authentic as possible. The Ferrari driver said that if a sequel were to happen, they should 'really, really take our time in getting it even better,' and they should conduct an F1-style debrief. Advertisement 'I think right now, which I don't know if they've ever done before, but I've asked them to do a debrief,' Hamilton said. 'So like, let's review what we did, what we could have done better. I don't know if they ever do that in the movie business. 'But it's something I've obviously learned from here, so I'm going to try and apply that to future programs that I do.'

Inter monitoring Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller as Calhanoglu replacement

Angelo Stiller is a name that has been linked to the European elite intensely over the last year or so. Now, Inter are seemingly interested in bringing the German midfielder to Italy. As per the reliable Gianluigi Longari, the Nerrazzuri have Stiller in their sights, if Hakan Calhanoglou does end up leaving. Given the recent public war of words between Calhanoglou and Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, it will be surprising if the Turkish midfielder ends up staying. There is heavy interest from Galatasaray and Inter are reportedly open to selling the player. Stiller would make a very good replacement for Cristian Chivu's side. Advertisement The 24 year old is an excellent passer and reader of the game from deeper midfield areas and he has also been linked to Real Madrid too this summer. It has been touted that Stuttgart will ask for €40m for the midfielder who has been touted as the 'new Toni Kroos '. Kaulik Mitra | GIFN
