Broncos Urged to Sign Wide Receiver Amari Cooper

Broncos Urged to Sign Wide Receiver Amari Cooper originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Multiple areas of the Denver Broncos' offense have received facelifts this offseason after 2024 saw the team make the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. Advertisement First, the Broncos' tight end room got a significant boost in the form of former Jacksonville Jaguars pass-catcher Evan Engram, who inked a two-year deal worth $23 million on March 13. The franchise then bolstered its running back room by taking RJ Harvey with the No. 60 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and signing J.K. Dobbins as a free agent in June. The makeup of the Broncos' wide receiver room, though, has remained stagnant for the most part, outside of using a third-round draft pick on Pat Bryant. That's why ClutchPoints' Douglas Fritz suggests that, if the team makes any more moves ahead of the regular season, it should be at the wideout position. Fritz specifically believes the Broncos should sign Amari Cooper, who remains a free agent after playing for both the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills in 2024. "Yes, we've seen the dropoff. Cooper turned in a poor performance in 2024, totaling only 44 catches for 547 yards and four scores. His stats were almost evenly split between the Browns and the Bills, so it can't all be based on poor quarterback play for the Browns," Fritz wrote. "However, Cooper reportedly played through injuries in 2024. If he's healthier this year, he could provide a spark for the right team. And the Broncos seem to be a good fit." Downing-Imagn Images Fritz – who also believes Cooper could be a good fit for the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers – cited an article written by Pro Football Focus' Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman that highlighted the Broncos' need for strong wide receiver play this upcoming season as rationale for the former Alabama star's potential signing. Advertisement 'While the Broncos gave quarterback Bo Nix the highest-graded pass-blocking unit in football (83.5), they didn't provide ample skill-position weapons,' Chadwick and Wasserman wrote. 'The Broncos earned the fifth-worst PFF receiving grade... in 2024." Heading into 2025, the Broncos' wide receiver room will be headlined by Pro Bowler Courtland Sutton, Devaughn Vale, Marvin Mims Jr., and Troy Franklin. Cooper himself is a five-time Pro Bowler who, in addition to his time with the Browns and Bills, has previously played for the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders and Dallas Cowboys over the course of his 10-year NFL career. He has collected 10,033 yards and 64 touchdowns on 711 catches in 154 professional appearances. ESPN's Schefter Compares Chance of Giants Starting Jaxson Dart to Josh Allen Backstory

ESPN's Schefter Compares Chance of Giants Starting Jaxson Dart to Josh Allen Backstory originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The concept of trading back into Round 1 for a franchise quarterback was a good one, even as NFL Draft opinions were split when the New York Giants selected Mississippi quarterback Jaxson Dart. Advertisement The concept of signing veteran Russell Wilson is a sound one, too. But yes, opinions were split there as well. But soon comes training camp ... and no "splits'' allowed. Decisions must be made. Dart had a sizable jump waiting for him in the NFL. Nevertheless, New York wouldn't have taken Dart without believing in him, and head coach Brian Daboll is tasked with ensuring his development goes smoothly. The team has helped provide an encouraging environment for Dart, starting with two veteran quarterbacks, Jameis Winston backing up Wilson ... and Wilson slated to be the No. 1 guy. But not forever, right, Adam Schefter? Advertisement 'The Giants would like to be as patient as they can with their rooking first round draft pick Jaxson Dart,' ESPN's Schefter said, "and go with Russell Wilson. But, let's keep in mind that once before Brian Daboll and the Giants' general manager Joe Schoen were in Buffalo and the plan there was to be very patient with Josh Allen, and he was called on to start a lot sooner than anybody expected.' Wouldn't that be something? The Josh Allen backstory with the Buffalo Bills, for whom the Giants coach and GM once worked, repeating itself in the Big Apple? But let's slow down here. 'I'm an aggressive player as is, so I think that's definitely something that I have to continue to learn,' Dart said recently of patience. 'I think this practice setting is a great time for me to do it. Then obviously you make mistakes, you do some really good things and you get to go back and watch the tape and pick up on the things that you need to improve on.' Advertisement That goes for the rookie QB. And - with all due respect to Schefter - it goes for the Giants, too. The player will want to maintain the aggressiveness that makes him dangerous without committing the turnovers that threaten New York's offense. ... as he chases playing time. But the organization? Daydreaming about Dart as "The Next Josh Allen'' is fun. ... and grossly premature. Giants' Top Offensive Weapon Speaks Out on Looming QB Controversy

Giants' Top Offensive Weapon Speaks Out on Looming QB Controversy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Giants believe they finally have a long-term plan at the quarterback position. Some of their top-skill players are already beginning to see it. Advertisement New York signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to free-agent contracts this offseason. The goal was for both signal-callers to mentor a future draft pick. When the team selected Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick in April's draft, the organization believed their quarterback struggles were over. New York should feel confident in its quarterback choices through offseason workouts. ... unless, of course, the "choices'' turn into a "QB controversy But for now? Young former fifth-round pick turned lead running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. - the team's top offensive weapon this side of Malik Nabers - has been thrilled with what he has seen from all three signal-callers. "I think the first thing that you want to pick out is that the leadership in the room will really help out everybody in the locker room and on the team," Tracy said during an appearance on Good Morning Football this week. "Obviously, you've got Russ, Mr. Unlimited. Then, you've got Jameis - he's the one that has the then you've got Jaxson Dart, Mr. Cool Dude, coming in with the swagger..." Advertisement "They bring a lot of different pieces that we need." Wilson remains the favorite to start for New York going into the 2025 season. Make no mistake, though. The current regime will sink or swim with Dart in the future. By surrounding him with quality veteran leaders, the Giants believe they are putting Dart in a position to succeed. As a running back, Tracy is happy with what he has seen from his signal-caller teammates Time will tell if that ends up working out, though, as a looming "competition'' or a looming "controversy.''
