Blackpink's Jisoo, Seo In-guk to Topline Netflix K-Drama "Boyfriend on Demand"

Netflix has greenlit a new Korean romantic comedy series 'Boyfriend on Demand' (working title), with Blackpink member Jisoo and Seo In-guk ('Doom at Your Service,' 'Café Minamdang') in lead roles.
The high-concept drama centers on an overworked webtoon producer who discovers romance through a subscription-based virtual reality dating program.
Jisoo will portray Seo Mi-rae, a career-focused creative whose love life takes an unexpected turn when she receives a 'Monthly Boyfriend' device that allows her to date seemingly perfect virtual suitors.
Seo In-guk is set to play Park Kyeong-nam, a rival webtoon producer whose frosty exterior masks hidden depths. His character's complex dynamic with Mi-rae promises to add tension to the workplace romance narrative.
At the helm is director Kim Jung-sik, known for his deft touch in series like the comedy-drama 'Work Later, Drink Now' and comedy-romance 'No Gain No Love.'
The helmer's track record suggests the show will balance its high-tech premise with grounded emotional storytelling.
The series continues Netflix's investment in Korean content, following the streamer's string of hits in the romance genre. Earlier this month Netflix unveiled its 2025 slate.
'Boyfriend on Demand' marks Jisoo's latest acting venture following her success in Disney+ and JTBC's 'Snowdrop' and her new Prime Video series 'Newtopia,' which debuted in February and follows a couple's journey to reunite amid a zombie outbreak in Seoul.
In the series, Park Jeon-min plays Lee Jae-yoon, a man completing his mandatory military service, while Jisoo takes on the role of Kang Young-joo, his girlfriend navigating early career challenges.
In January, Jisoo signed a global label deal with Warner Records for her solo music releases, ahead of the February 14 release of her debut solo mini album, 'Amortage.'

Rakeen Saad Replaces Yasmin Raeis in TV Series "Qtl Ikhtiyari"
Yara Sameh After a year of hindered production, the TV series "Qtl Ikhtiyari" ("Optional Killing") is getting a fresh start, but this time, with major changes. Egyptian actress Yasmin Raeis has dropped from the project and has been replaced by Jordanian actress Rakeen Saad. The drama was originally scheduled to debut during the 2024 Ramadan drama marathon, but production issues halted filming from starting on schedule, putting the project on hold for a long period. With the delay, Raeis decided to exit the series, especially given her busy schedule with new projects in film and television. Sources within the production team say the production company was able to overcome the financial crisis that had disrupted filming, and a decision was made to debut the project outside of the Ramadan drama marathon, with significant changes to the number of episodes and the technical crew. The show's creators also altered the series' episodes from 15 to 30. "Qtl Ikhtiyari" is written by Amin Gamal and directed by Mohamed Bakir. Principal photography is set to begin in the coming weeks. Saad was last seen next in Egyptian actor Asser Yassin's Netflix TV series "Mawid Maa Elmady" (Echoes of The Past). The cast also includes Shereen Reda, Mahmoud Hamida, Saba Mubarak, Huda El Mufti, Sherif Salama, Mohamed Alaa, Mohamed Tharwat, Tamer Nabil, and more. Produced by Charisma Group with executive producer Mohammad Mashish, the adaptation hails from scriptwriter Mohamed Al Masry and director Al Sadeer Massoud. "Mawid Maa Elmady" consists of 8 episodes and is based on the Mexican thriller series "Quién mató a Sara?" (Who Killed Sara? in English). The show ran for three seasons from March 2021 to May 2022 and follows Manolo Cardona as Álex, who was framed for the murder of his sister Sara. Now he's out of prison he's on the hunt for revenge, as he tries to uncover the mystery of what happened. 'Mawid Maa Elmady' delves deep into the emotional and psychological turmoil of Yehia, whose life was torn apart by the murder of his sister, Nadia. "After being wrongly convicted of her death and facing 15 years behind bars, Yahia's release is followed by a burning desire for revenge, where he will stop at nothing to find Nadia's real killer. Korean Film Festival Celebrates Music in Cinema in Dubai
The Korean Film Festival returns to Dubai from June 27th to the 29th, bringing a selection of films that highlight the role of music in shaping storylines at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library. The Korean Film Festival is taking place in Dubai from June 27th to the 29th at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library. The theme for the ninth edition of the festival spotlights music's role in cinema, curating a selection of Korean films where soundtracks and musicality play a central part in the narrative. The lineup features critically acclaimed titles including Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite', the psychological thriller 'A Tale of Two Sisters', and the creature feature 'The Host'. Also on the programme is the recent ensemble drama 'Dog Days'. Alongside the screenings, audiences can attend a K-movie OST concert and director talks, giving deeper insight into how music is used to drive tone, tension, and character development in Korean film. Organised by the Korean Cultural Center, the festival continues its mission to introduce regional audiences to the richness and variety of Korean cinema.
