Meghan Markle's dad swerved her wedding due to unexpected 'six-word reason'
It has been years since Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex had an active relationship with her father, Thomas Markle Senior. The Duchess has shared in the past that she "grieves" the loss of their once-close bond, and it is a known fact that Thomas hasn't met his grandchildren: six year old Prince Archie and four year old Princess Lilibet.
The rift between Meghan and her father started ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan's high-profile wedding. In the run-up to their nuptials, Thomas was caught up in a media storm for staging photographs with paparazzi while getting his wedding attire tailored.
These staged photos caused quite the stir and, alongside Thomas's serious health concerns, were rumoured to be why he failed to attend Meghan's wedding, resulting in King Charles stepping in to accompany his daughter-in-law down part of the aisle.
Yet, according to a Royal confidante, there might be a far more significant reason for Thomas's absence from Windsor on Megan's special day – one that supposedly wasn't related to the notorious paparazzi incident.
Royal author Sally Bedell Smith has disclosed in her Substack newsletter, Royal Extra, new information provided by one of Queen Elizabeth II's trusted friends - information which sheds light on the true cause of Thomas Markle's failure to witness his daughter's wedding, reports the Mirror.
Lady Elizabeth Anson, the late Queen's cousin and close confidante, revealed to Sally Bedell Smith that Thomas Markle's primary reason for not attending the star-studded wedding was due to fear.
According to Lady Elizabeth, arrangements had been made for Thomas to attend, including an accessibility plan for St George's Chapel. As Thomas "didn't do steps" due to health issues, he was scheduled to enter through a side door.
However, in the end, he was simply "too scared to attend the wedding," Lady Elizabeth disclosed.
Meghan has since shared that she discovered her father wouldn't be at her wedding through the media, and found it challenging to communicate with him directly in the lead-up to the big day.
She was appalled when her father participated in and received payment for a paparazzi photoshoot - as was her mother, Doria Ragland. In Harry and Meghan's self-titled Netflix documentary, Doria expressed her shock at her ex-husband's actions, stating, "as a parent, that's not what you do. That's not parenting."

Katherine Ryan's 'awful' outfit that 'ruined aesthetic' of Mel B's wedding
The comedian is regretting her choice of outfit for the Spice Girl's wedding last week. Mel B got married last week in a star-studded ceremony in London. But guest Katherine Ryan has since expressed some regrets at her choice of outfit. Mel, 50, married her partner Rory McPhee, 37, at St Paul's Cathedral on Saturday, July 5. Katherine and her husband Bobby Kootstra were among the guests at the all-stars event. Katherine shared on the latest episode of her podcast, Telling Everybody Everything, released yesterday, that she was "so touched" to be invited, particularly as a Spice Girls fan, reports the Mirror. She however told listeners: "I looked like s*** at Mel B's wedding, everybody knows it!" Katherine went on to discuss her outfit, including revealing that she had to get creative when it came to the headpiece that she wore. Katherine, who previously announced that she's pregnant, said that she didn't know how "big" she would be so had decided to get a "flowy" dress. Describing her chosen blue dress, she said: "It almost looks like bed linen. It's very dreamy." The pregnant mother of three said it was "so difficult" to get ready at home with her children around, explaining, "I don't have the thinnest arms for it. I'm too pale for it." She told listeners: "It was awful - no offence to the designer!" She also said: "I put my hair down, which was absolutely the wrong way to do it." Katherine then shared that she had previously shaved the back of her neck because of her "low" hairline, adding: "I can't put my hair up right now because I've chosen to grow this like neck out and it ruined the look." The dress code for the ceremony included hats and fascinators for women, Katherine explained. Adhering to the invitation, she recalled that she had ordered a "beautiful" fascinator ahead of the special occasion last week. But she "panicked last minute" that it wasn't the right shade of blue to match her dress. She told fans that she had to craft a flower into a headline instead, saying: "I ended up chopping an orchid from my kitchen and sticking that in my head." Discussing her look, she said: "It was giving ugly step-sister. Like I truly s*** the bed on the look." Further sharing her thoughts, Katherine teased that she now feels like she "ruined the aesthetic" of the wedding. Katherine said that her husband Bobby, who opted for a cream suit, "didn't like his look" either. She said on the latest episode of her podcast: "I don't think we've ever looked worse ... on like the most important day of someone's life." Whilst talking about the wedding, Katherine shared her surprise over the guestlist. She said: "Everyone there was like a close personal friend, or family member, or Northern. Y'know someone she really knew. [...] It had a real grassroots like true friendship and family vibe. It was a lovely, lovely wedding." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! 'I was at Oasis' first show in Manchester and it was utterly biblical'
Some might say it was the best gig in Manchester's history. Oasis returned to Manchester for the first time in 16 years, and I was there. Nobody ever expected once warring brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher to join forces again – after all, they have consistently and publicly flung insults at one another since Noel dramatically quit the band in 2009. But walking out at Heaton Park, you could never have imagined that there was once a feud between the two siblings. Putting on a united front, the two legends walked out to their 2000 track, F***in' In The Bushes, to a crowd of 80,000 people, with the atmosphere instantly becoming electric. With what I hope was beer and cider being flung around – but let's face it, it was probably urine – everybody was there for one reason. Opening their performance with quite rightly, Hello, the euphoric first notes instantly filled me with emotion. I was never fortunate enough to see Oasis live before their split, and I blame my family for that. After opening with Hello, they went on to perform Acquiesce, which was the B-side to their first official UK Number One, Some Might Say. Liam, known for his cheeky persona, said: "I tell you what, you look ****ng stunning? You should be proud of yourselves, 10/10." Before bursting into the 1994 anthem, Cigarettes and Alcohol. The younger brother left the stage for a short while, as his older (or as Liam says, little) brother, belted out Half The World Away. I attended with my best mate, and let's just say – the vibes were everything we could have expected and more. Now, being a journalist, there are perks to my job. And after spending 16 hours in those horrific online queues, tonight has been the best perk in over ten years. A night I never imagined would happen has, finally, happened – and it was clear from the electric crowds I wasn't the only one who felt privileged to be there on this momentous music occasion. A few simple words on social media on August 27 in 2024 were enough to spark pandemonium among Oasis fans and were the catalyst for the most eagerly awaited UK gigs of all time. This special unofficial magazine, available to order here, marks the reunion and honours the band both now and down the years with our incredible archive of photos and interviews - and with exclusive reviews and photographs of their first show! Noel and Liam have only been pictured together four times since they announced their reunion in August last year but thousands of fans poured into their hometown, where temperatures were reaching the early thirties, before heading to Heaton Park for the sold-out show, with many enjoying the warmer climates in the various pubs across the Northern Quarter. Last year, just hours after Liam's headline slot at Reading Festival, the band announced the Oasis Live '25 tour, with dates across the UK and Ireland, and later dates across the globe. As the hotly anticipated Oasis reunion tour grows closer, the Mirror has launched its very own Oasis WhatsApp community where you'll get all the latest news on the Gallagher brothers and all the information you'll need in the run up to the gigs. We'll send you the latest breaking updates and exclusives all directly to your phone. Users must download or already have WhatsApp on their phones to join in. All you have to do to join is , select 'Join Chat' and you're in! We may also send you stories from other titles across the Reach group. We will also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners. If you don't like our community, you can check out any time you like. To leave our community click on the name at the top of your screen and choose Exit group. If you're curious, you can read our . Reflecting on the tour, Noel said in the official tour programme: "People will never forget the way you made them feel." He went on to reference the hundreds of thousands of people who spent hours in virtual queues on Ticketmaster and See Tickets, with many being young fans who grew up listening to Oasis because of their parents and relatives. He commented: "A new generation recognises how Oasis wasn't manufactured. It was chaotic, flawed, and not technically brilliant. We were rough and ready guys from a rehearsal room, and people recognised it." Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.
