Last Updated:
New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) Biocon on Wednesday said its subsidiary Biocon Biologics has launched a product for the treatment of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, in the Australian market.
The company has launched Nepexto, a biosimilar to the reference product Enbrel (Etanercept), in Australia, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Nepexto will be promoted by Generic Health, a local partner and a leading provider of high-quality generic prescription, injectable and over-the-counter medicines, to expand access to patients in that country, it added.
Etanercept is a fusion-protein that inhibits tumour necrosis factor (TNF) and is used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis.
Since receiving EU marketing authorisation in 2020, Nepexto has earned broad adoption across Europe.
Following the 2022 acquisition and vertical integration of the biosimilars business globally, Biocon Biologics is building on the solid foundation to strategically expand Nepexto into new markets worldwide and further strengthen its immunology offering, it said.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Q1 results: Profit slips 7% YoY; retail CV stress, high provisions weigh on earnings
Kotak Mahindra Bank reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 4,472 crore for the June quarter, marking a significant drop from Rs 7,448 crore in the same period last year. The previous year's figure, however, included a one-time gain of over Rs 3,000 crore from the sale of a stake in its general insurance business, as per news agency PTI. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On a standalone basis, the bank's net profit declined 7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 3,282 crore. The bank attributed the dip to a combination of falling core income—impacted by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rate cuts—slower fee income growth, and elevated provisions. Net interest income (NII) rose 6 per cent to Rs 7,259 crore, supported by 14 per cent loan book growth, but this was offset by a contraction in the net interest margin (NIM), which slipped 37 basis points to 4.65 per cent. According to chief financial officer Devang Gheewala, the bank's income is highly sensitive to rate cuts, with over 60 per cent of its assets linked to the repo rate. He explained that while policy rate reductions affect yields immediately, deposit rates take longer to adjust, pressuring margins. Other income grew modestly by 5 per cent to Rs 3,080 crore. Gheewala noted that income will likely pick up once regulatory restrictions are lifted, allowing expansion in digital savings accounts and credit card issuance, as per PTI. Provisions more than doubled to Rs 1,200 crore. A significant portion of this was allocated for stress in the microfinance (MFI) segment and the retail commercial vehicle (CV) portfolio. 'The provisions for MFI business have peaked,' said MD and CEO Ashok Vaswani, as per PTI. He added that disbursements in this segment have resumed cautiously and are expected to accelerate in the latter half of the year. Fresh slippages rose to Rs 1,812 crore, up from Rs 1,358 crore a year earlier, pushing the gross non-performing assets (NPA) ratio up to 1.48 per cent from 1.39 per cent. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Gheewala said that nearly 35 per cent of the new slippages originated from the retail CV portfolio. As per PTI, deputy managing director Shanti Ekambaram explained that the smaller CV operators, those with fleets under 10 vehicles, are struggling due to weak demand in goods transport, pricing pressures, and delayed payments from government contracts. However, she added that other retail loan segments, including home and personal loans, are performing well. On the housing front, Ekambaram described the lending market as not only competitive but 'irrational' in pricing. Despite this, the bank is aggressively pursuing the segment due to the long-term value and customer retention it offers. Kotak's capital adequacy ratio remains strong at 23 per cent, with a core capital buffer exceeding 21 per cent. Vaswani said the bank aims to grow its book at 1.5 to 2 times the nominal GDP growth of India. Subsidiaries contributed more than one-third of the group's profits. Kotak Securities reported a profit of Rs 465 crore, up from Rs 400 crore last year. The asset management and life insurance arms more than doubled their net profits to Rs 326 crore and Rs 327 crore, respectively.

J&K Bank profit rises 17 pc to Rs 485 crore in Apr-June
Net Interest Income (NII) during the reporting quarter grew 7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,465.43 crore, while the other income jumped 29 per cent to Rs 250.30 crore from Rs 194.10 crore recorded last year. The bank had reported a profit after tax (PAT) or net profit of Rs 415.49 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year, J&K Bank said in a statement. Srinagar, Jul 25 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Bank on Friday posted a 16.7 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 484.84 crore in the April-June quarter of FY26. Return on Assets (RoA) in the quarter improved to 1.17 per cent from 1.08 per cent a year ago, while Net Interest Margin (NIM) stood at 3.72 per cent as against 3.86 per cent recorded in Q4FY25. Bank's cost-to-income ratio also improved to 60.78 per cent YoY, it said. Operating profit witnessed a 13 per cent increase to Rs 672.84 crore from Rs 594.67 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year, the bank said. The bank's MD and CEO Amitava Chatterjee said that despite tough situation on the ground due to the Pahalgam terror attack along with its aftermath that affected business activity and credit offtake in key geographies well into June, 'we have been able to deliver a healthy bottom line growth of around 17 per cent'. 'The sudden decline in NIM should be viewed against the broader environment wherein repo rate cuts announced by the regulator impacted the margins,' he said. The profitability in Q1 is subdued on account of impairment provision of Rs 87 crore made in this quarter towards our investment in the RRB – Jammu and Kashmir Grameen Bank, necessitated by amalgamation of Ellaquai Dehati Bank with erstwhile J&K Grameen Bank w.e.f. April 30, 2025, the MD said. Excluding this non-recurring impact, our profitability growth would be upwards of 30 per cent YoY. This one-time provision has also impacted our ROA and ROE, however on a normalised basis both metrics remain broadly in line with our expectation, he added. Chatterjee further said that the bank remains fundamentally strong, with adequate capital and liquidity buffers, and is already seeing signs of accelerating credit off-take on ground. 'With improving conditions on the ground, we are sure to gain growth momentum in the coming quarters,' the MD and CEO asserted. About business growth, he said the bank's deposits rose 12 per cent to Rs 14,8542 crore from Rs 13,2574 crore recorded in Q1 of the last fiscal, while the net advances grew 6.06 per cent to Rs 1,01,230 crore as against Rs 95,450 crore. The bank's CASA (current account-savings account) ratio stood at 45.71 per cent as on June 30, 2025. 'Regarding business growth, we are confident in our long term strategy as we are actively diversifying and scaling up our rest of India operations by opening more branches in strategic business centres, entering builder tie-ups, and strengthening partnerships with DSAs,' the MD and CEO said. 'Going forward, our focus will also remain on deepening relationships in core geographies through sufficient lending to agriculture, industry and youth entrepreneurship; and investing further in digital capabilities and operational efficiency,' he added. Chatterjee said the Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) of the bank reduced by 41 basis points to 3.50 per cent (from 3.91 per cent a year ago), while Net NPA stood at 0.82 per cent. The bank's NPA Coverage Ratio remained strong at above 90 per cent. On the asset quality, the MD and CEO said as per the annual guidance, the bank plans to bring it to around 3 per cent by the end of the current financial year through prudent lending, robust recovery mechanisms, and proactive monitoring using early warning systems and digital tools like its NPA tracker. The Bank's Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) stood at 15.98 per cent, providing a comfortable buffer for future growth, he said. 'With CAR almost 16 per cent, we remain well capitalised and have an enabling board approval for raising further capital to fund our growth plans and seize emerging opportunities across our business segments,' Chatterjee said. Rupee weakens 12 paise to settle at 86.52 against US dollar
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 86.59 and hit the lowest level of 86.63 against the greenback. The unit touched the intra-day peak of 86.47 before ending the session at 86.52, registering a loss of 12 paise from its previous closing level. A strengthening American currency overseas and foreign fund outflows further weighed on the local unit, forex traders said. Mumbai, Jul 25 (PTI) The rupee declined 12 paise to settle at 86.52 against the US dollar on Friday, tracking negative domestic equity markets and surging global crude oil prices. On Thursday, the rupee saw some initial recovery but ended the session just 1 paisa higher at 86.40 against the US dollar. Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, said the rupee weakened due to a surge in crude oil prices and weakness in the domestic markets, which also fuelled the withdrawal of foreign institutional investors. He said the rupee is expected to trade with a slight negative bias amid uncertainty ahead of the August 1 trade deal deadline and geopolitical tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. 'Traders may take cues from the durable goods orders data from the US. Investors may remain cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan's monetary policy decisions next week. USD-INR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 86.30 to Rs 86.90,' Choudhary added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.33 per cent to 97.44. Analysts attributed the recovery in the dollar index to favourable employment data in the US. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, went up by 0.42 per cent to USD 69.47 per barrel in futures trade, as developing trade agreements have supported the upward movement in Brent oil prices. Forex traders said the uncertainty over the India-US trade deal has been an overhang for the forex market. If the discussions fail or get delayed, Indian exporters could face fresh pressure — adding to the rupee's challenges. However, if a deal is reached, it could offer a much-needed breather. Until then, the uncertainty is likely to keep market participants cautious. Meanwhile, in the domestic equity market, Sensex crashed 721.08 points or 0.88 per cent to 81,463.09, while Nifty tanked 225.10 points or 0.90 per cent to 24,837. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 1,979.96 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to exchange data. The latest RBI data released on Friday showed India's forex reserve declined by USD 1.183 billion to USD 695.489 billion during the week ended July 18.
