Malaysia and UAE pledge to strengthen bilateral ties at Asean-GCC Summit

Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and the UAE's Supreme Council member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, met on the sidelines of the 2nd Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Meanwhile, the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, in a statement to Bernama, said the meeting discussed the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Malaysia, and explored opportunities to expand collaboration across various sectors. 'Both leaders praised the strong coordination and partnership between the UAE and Malaysia on the international stage and emphasised the importance of continued dialogue and engagement to advance shared development goals and mutual interests,' it said. It added that Sheikh Saud also commended Malaysia's outstanding organisation of the summits and praised the country's role in promoting closer cooperation and integration between GCC and Asean nations. Malaysia and the UAE have enjoyed robust bilateral relations since the early 1970s, marked by significant collaborations in diplomacy, trade and investment.

At least two killed as Russia launches 'massive night attack' on Kyiv
Russia launched a "massive" drone and missile sttack on Kyiv for the second night running killing at least two people, Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday. "The enemy used strikedronesand missiles against peaceful settlements." Tymur Tkachenko, head of the capital's military administration, said two people were killed in the Russian attack. He earlier said 13 people were wounded. Dozens of residents of the capital took shelter overnight in a central metro station, an AFP reporter said, sleeping on mats, calming pets and waiting out the attack on camping furniture. The Kyiv city military administration had warned of a "threat of enemy use of ballistic weapons", and Ukraine's air force said "a group of missiles" had approached Kyiv from the east. Ukraine's air alert warning was lifted later Thursday morning. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said falling debris sparked fires at buildings in the capital districts of Solomyansky and Shevchenkivsky. ASEAN to keep on consensus, inclusivity
Xinhua 10 Jul 2025, 10:45 GMT+10 KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Consensus and inclusivity will remain the guiding principles of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as the grouping continues to engage with external partners while welcoming new members, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said in Kuala Lumpur. He also urged ASEAN to uphold its unity and strategic resolve amid intensifying geopolitical tensions and mounting external pressures, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday, following the Plenary Session of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) held on Wednesday. The statement said that during the meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers welcomed the adoption of the Guidelines to Facilitate Timor-Leste's Accession to ASEAN Legal Instruments, and urged member states to complete the necessary procedural steps ahead of the 47th ASEAN Summit. The meeting also reviewed matters related to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and will be welcoming Algeria and Uruguay's signing ceremony of the Instrument of Accession to the TAC later. The foreign ministers also took note of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Annual Report 2025 and endorsed AICHR's Priority Programs and Five-Year Work Plan (2026-2030). Additionally, the meeting proposed the adoption of the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment, marking a continued commitment to human dignity, social development, and regional justice.
