Indian Chess GM Vidit Gujrathi's Tribute To His Family On Doctor's Day Backfires
Last Updated: Vidit Gujrathi, in a now-deleted post, revealed, "My father is a Ayurvedic migraine specialist, wife is MD homeopathy, Mom does cosmetology, and my sister is a physiotherapist." Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, a renowned hepatologist also referred to as The Liver Doc, has called out Indian Chess Grand Master Vidit Gujrathi over the latter's Doctor's Day wishes for his family. On July 1, Vidit shared a selfie with his family members, including his father, mother, wife, and sister, along with the message 'Happy Doctor's Day to my entire family." In response to the post, an X user inquired about the specialities in their profession, to which Vidit detailed, 'My father is an Ayurvedic migraine specialist, my wife is an MD homoeopathy, my mom does cosmetology, and my sister is a physiotherapist." Seemingly unconvinced with Vidit tagging his family's profession as doctors, The Liver Doc reshared the post with the remark, 'I am sorry, but none of them are really doctors." I am sorry but none of them are really doctors. — TheLiverDoc (@theliverdr) July 2, 2025 While the original post has since been deleted, The Liver Doc's post left Internet users largely divided, as many claimed that the discussed professions could still be counted as doctors. One of them added a detailed explanation and wrote, 'Doctors basically are called healers. So anybody helping in healing gets that badge. I don't know about other branches, but Ayurveda, homoeopathy, and physiotherapy are definitely healers." Though I respect your contribution to society but who are you talking negative about Ayurveda ? This is not so mature of you Doctor . There is a whole government department called AYUSH propagating Ayurveda . The Ayurveda industry is 20 billion usd market . The Ayurveda was… — Sandip भारत Another added, 'They have a recognised degree too to do the practice. Their way of treating a patient is different, but sorry to say, they are a doctor too, my arrogant doctor friend." On the other hand, a user emphasised, 'High time govt should take away the title of doctor from ayurvedic and homoeopathic doctors; lately I see there's a rise of homoeopathic doctors on Instagram, sharing tips to avoid serious diseases." With mixed reactions about the post, let's take a look at what these professions actually mean. What Is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is an indigenous ancient medical science of India, said to be 5,000 years old. It is counted as an upaveda of the Atharva Veda, which makes use of herbs for medicinal purposes. According to the Directorate of Ayush, Ayurveda is the science of life and not only the science of diseases, which aims at the propagation of health and the cure of diseases. Ayurveda has been divided into eight branches, which deal with various factors like gynaecology, internal medicine, obstetrics and paediatrics, psychiatry, ENT, surgery, toxicology, geriatrics, and sexual disorders. What Is Homoeopathy? Homoeopathy is described as a complementary or alternative medicine that is different from the treatments that are done as part of conventional Western medicine. It is based on a series of ideas originally developed in the 1790s by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann. Homoeopathy is based on the process of dilution and shaking called succussion. Over the past years, there has been extensive debate on the effectiveness of homoeopathy, with no major evidence to suggest that it is effective as western medicine for any health condition. What Is Cosmetology? Usually is not counted as a medical profession, cosmetology is mainly a program that focuses on skincare products and procedures to help people improve their physical appearance. Cosmetologists are professionally trained to offer cosmetic treatments for concerns related to skin, hair, and nails. What Is Physiotherapy? top videos View all Physiotherapy is an act of helping patients to restore movement and function in the body when affected by injury, illness, or disability. The profession of physiotherapists involves extending these services via manual therapy, education, and advice for people of all ages. Physiotherapists also need to encourage their patients to develop and facilitate recovery. Said to be a degree-based healthcare profession, it can help with various conditions related to the body, such as neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and neuromusculoskeletal. With all that said, while the use of the title 'doctor" is not precisely exclusive to the practitioners of modern medicine, the Indian Medical Association has already clarified that those practising ayurveda and homoeopathy can also use the same if registered with the relevant medical councils. tags : Chess viral news Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: July 03, 2025, 19:01 IST News viral Indian Chess GM Vidit Gujrathi's Tribute To His Family On Doctor's Day Backfires

A tribute to lifesavers
It wasn't just an evening of applause and accolades, it was a reunion of some of India's pioneering doctors. On Tuesday, as the country celebrated National Doctors' Day, Rotary International District 3234 organised a felicitation ceremony at the Anna Centenary Auditorium, Kotturpuram, honouring the legacy and life-saving excellence of a few doctors and medical institutions. The event marked the debut of Vinod Saraogi as the district governor for the Rotary year 2025-26. 'All 81 clubs and 3,200 rotarians in the district are united by one goal — to serve society. For me, beginning this journey with a tribute to doctors feels symbolic,' said Vinod. He shared his vision for the year ahead, announcing many projects which focus on preventive healthcare and education. 'We've planned 100 dialysis machines, 5,000 cervical cancer vaccines, and 10,000 cataract surgeries. We're launching a blood bank in Saidapet, cardio vans for rural outreach, and even mammogram machines. It's going to be a year of full action.' Ma Subramanian, Tamil Nadu's Minister for Health and Family Welfare, conferred the awards and praised the awardees for their service. 'The Tamil Nadu Government has been honouring doctors on National Doctor's Day since the 1980s. We used to present the award to 10 doctors every year which was later increased to 25 and this year, we awarded 50 doctors,' he said.

New Delhi [India], July 1: We've gathered insights from leading health experts across specialties—cardiology, oncology, endocrinology, mental health, and more—who share actionable advice rooted in experience and science. From managing stress and sleep to making smart nutrition and fitness choices, these expert-backed tips are simple, effective, and designed to help you take charge of your health journey. Let this Doctor's Day be your inspiration to invest in your well-being, every day. 1. Dr Munindra Kumar, Nephrologist &Renal Transplant Physician MBBS, MD, CCEBDM, DNB, MRCP (SCE), MNAMS, ISOT Cert. in (Transplant Path), Medical Director (NEPHRUS), New Delhi As a Nephrologist, I often encounter patients who are unaware of the slow and silent progression of kidney disease—until it reaches an advanced stage. In today's fast-paced lifestyle, marked by high salt consumption, inconsistent hydration, uncontrolled diabetes, and hypertension, prioritizing kidney health is more critical than ever. Prevention is simple but powerful: stay well-hydrated, maintain a balanced diet low in processed foods, monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar, and get regular kidney function screenings. Kidney health doesn't require dramatic changes—just consistent, mindful care. It's equally important to listen to your body and seek medical advice early. Do not ignore subtle warning signs like fatigue, swelling, or changes in urine habits. This Doctor's Day, I encourage everyone to value preventive care just as much as curative treatment. Let's mark this occasion by making healthier choices—for ourselves and for those we care about. To book appointment – visit: Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Doctors' Day! 2. Dr Chandan Choudhary, MD, MED, DNB Nephrology, Nephrologist and Transplant Physician, Mumbai 'Good health is not just the absence of disease; it's a conscious effort made every day through preventive care, awareness, and timely check-ups,' says Dr Chandan Choudhary, leading Nephrologist. 'As a nephrologist, I often see patients only after significant kidney function decline—largely due to late diagnosis or lack of regular screening. My advice is simple: be proactive about your health. Monitor your blood pressure, control blood sugar levels, stay well-hydrated, and limit excess salt intake. These small, consistent habits can go a long way in protecting your kidneys.' Early detection and lifestyle management are crucial in preventing chronic kidney disease and supporting long-term wellness. 'Let's break the silence around kidney health and promote open, informed conversations,' he adds. On this Doctors' Day, Dr Choudhary extends his wishes for good health, strength, and the wisdom to prioritize personal well-being. Let this day serve as a reminder: a healthier life is within reach when we take proactive steps and trust our healthcare providers. Stay informed, stay healthy. 3. Dr Arpit Gupta, Paediatrician, MBBS (Gold Medal) , MD Pediatrics (Gold Medal), FIAP (Gold Medal) , PGPN ( Boston), DPAA (USA), Noida 'As a pediatrician, I believe a healthy childhood lays the foundation for a healthy life. Today's fast-paced lifestyle brings unique challenges for children—ranging from nutritional deficiencies and screen addiction to rising cases of early-onset lifestyle disorders. Preventive care, timely vaccinations, balanced nutrition, and emotional well-being are essential pillars of pediatric health.' Dr Gupta emphasizes the importance of regular growth monitoring, encouraging open conversations between parents and pediatricians, and creating screen-free, active routines for children. 'We must remember that children thrive in environments filled with love, structure, and mindful care. Educating parents is equally important—awareness empowers them to make better decisions for their child's development and immunity.' On this Doctors' Day 2025, he urges families to invest time in their child's physical and emotional health. 'Healthy kids grow into healthy adults. Let's not just treat illness but nurture wellness from the very beginning.' Wishing everyone a future filled with brighter, stronger, and healthier generations. 4. Dr Biswanath Gouda, Director,Bandra Lakeview Healthcare, Consultant Gastrointestinal,HPB and Bariatric Surgeon, attached to Lilavati Hospital Bandra and Holy Family Hospital Bandra Mumbai On Doctors' Day, Dr Biswanath Gouda, renowned Gastrointestinal Surgeon, shares a vital message on the growing concern of fatty liver disease. 'Fatty liver is becoming one of the most common lifestyle-related conditions in India today. It's often silent, but if left unchecked, it can lead to serious liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver cancer,' he explains. 'The most effective way to combat this is through weight loss. Even a 5–10% reduction in body weight can dramatically improve liver function and reduce fat accumulation. Prioritizing a balanced diet, daily physical activity, and regular health checkups can go a long way in preventing and reversing fatty liver,' Dr Gouda advises. He further emphasizes, 'We need to shift from treating illness to preventing it. The liver is a resilient organ, but it needs your support. Start with small lifestyle changes—they make a big difference over time.' Wishing everyone a healthy and aware Doctor's Day!
