Pant, who is India's first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Tests, has 2677 runs to his credit in 37 World Test Championship matches played so far.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury on Day 1 of the third India-England Test, which was played at Lord's from July 10 to 14, but despite that, he came out to bat in both innings and even scored 74 runs from 112 balls as a No. 5 batter on the third day. While there is still no clarity over his participation in the fourth Test against England starting July 23 in Manchester as wicketkeeper, he in all likelihood will feature in the must-win match for the Shubman Gill-led side.
Pant, who has 425 runs to his name in the ongoing series with the help of two centuries (134 and 118) and two half-centuries (65 and 74), will have a chance to create history at Old Trafford and enter his name in the record books.
If the left-handed batter, who made his Test debut in 2018, manages to score at least 40 runs in the fourth match, then he will become India's highest run getter in the World Test Championship (WTC).
As of now, Rohit Sharma is India's leading run getter in the WTC. The former India captain played 40 matches and, with the help of nine centuries and eight fifties, amassed a total of 2716 runs. On the other hand, Pant has 2677 runs to his credit in 37 matches. He has smacked six centuries and 15 half-centuries for Team India.
In addition to that, Pant, who is India's first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Tests, will also have a chance to break the record of hitting the most sixes for India in Test cricket.
In 46 Test matches played so far for Team India, Pant has hammered 88 sixes so far, which puts him on level terms with Rohit Sharma (88 sixes in 67 Tests). Only Virender Sehwag has hammered more maximums in the five-day format of the game for India than Pant. During his 12-year-long Test career, Sehwag played 103 matches for India and smashed 90 sixes.
In addition to that, Sehwag also played one Test in 2005 for ICC World XI and hit one six, which took his tally of maximums to 91.
The world record for hitting the most sixes in Test cricket is held by England Test captain and legendary all-rounder Ben Stokes. Since making his Test debut in December 2013 against Australia in England, Stokes has played 114 matches and hammered 133 sixes.

Not Nitish Reddy! Ravi Shastri Picks 25-Year-Old As India's Next Genuine Allrounder

Last Updated: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri gives his take on who among the current lot has the qualities to become the next genuine allrounder. Washington Sundar has been earmarked by Ravi Shastri as India's next 'genuine" Test allrounder, given his lethal bowling in home conditions and his natural batting talent. The 25-year-old offspinner, who made a remarkable Test debut at the Gabba in 2021, has had limited opportunities in red-ball cricket since then. In 11 Tests, Washington has scored 545 runs and taken 30 wickets. 'I always loved Washington. When I saw him on day one, I said he's the man. And he can be a genuine all-rounder for many, many years for India," Shastri said on The ICC Review. Shastri feels Washington should have played more red-ball matches, especially considering his proven effectiveness on turning tracks at home. 'He again is just 25 years of age. I think he should have played a lot more Test cricket. Can be lethal in India on tracks where the ball is turning, as New Zealand found out when they played against India. He out-bowled some of the senior spinners. He bowled that well and he can bat." Washington was the joint highest wicket-taker in the 2024 home Test series against New Zealand, finishing with 16 wickets in four innings. Shastri, who oversaw Washington's Test debut, also praised his batting abilities, suggesting the Tamil Nadu player could be promoted up the order. 'He's a naturally talented batsman. He's no number 8. He can go at 6 very soon in the batting lineup." In the ongoing England series, Washington has made significant contributions with both bat and ball. At Lord's, his 4/22 in the second innings, including the prized scalps of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jamie Smith, turned the match in India's favour. Shastri added that Washington's technical attributes make him valuable even in overseas conditions. 'And once he gains confidence, I think he'll get better and better because even overseas he's got the drift, he's got the pace, he's got the strength in his fingers and the fitness. You know, do both long spells and do the controlling job when needed." With PTI Inputs view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. (Photo by) The England cricket team has hired former All Blacks mental skills coach Gilbert Enoka. Enoka, a friend of McCullum's, has also worked with elite sides in several sports and nations, including a spell at Chelsea in 2023, and is famous for instigating a 'no dickheads' policy while helping the All Blacks to two World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015. He also worked as a mental skills coach with the New Zealand cricket team from 1998–2004 and the national netball team from 1994–1997. Harry Brook press conference: On why India are scared, on field fights at Lord's and more 'A dickhead makes everything about them,' he famously said in 2017. 'They are people who put themselves ahead of the team, people who think they're entitled to things, expect the rules to be different for them, people operating deceitfully in the dark, or being unnecessarily loud about their work. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 15 Most Beautiful Women in the World Undo Poll Do you think hiring Gilbert Enoka will improve the mental toughness of the England cricket team? Yes, it will make a significant difference. No, it won't have much impact. 'The management might not spot these counterproductive behaviours. The players and leaders themselves should call others out for their inflated egos. Often, teams put up with it because a player has so much talent. We look for early warning signs and wean the big egos out pretty quickly. Our motto is: 'If you can't change the people, change the people.''
