New 2025 Pill carnival queen and her attendants chosen
Created by Newport florist Ann Barton, the float includes the queen and her attendants, court ladies and flower girls.
Judging for the carnival queen contest took place at Pill Harriers Club, with the Argus taking part. Mrs Barton thanked all those who applied and took part in the event on Sunday.
The winners are as follows.
Carnival Queen: Samarah Yasmin Kaid, 15.
Attendants: Lowri Jones and Mya Elise Webbe, 15.
Court ladies: Kaysha Evans, Eliza Lewis, Amaya Hussain, Lacey Hooper, Chaya Breeds, Amelia Rose, Kelsey Cuthbert.
Flower Girls: Lavayah Taylor, Mila Cuthbert, Kaydn Givvons, Ivy Bless Breeds.
Pill Carnival will include a parade, food stalls and funfair.

Summer is a busy time for events in Newport
From cultural celebrations to family fun, our city is buzzing with events that embrace diversity, tradition, and inclusion. Something for all interests or abilities. We've already enjoyed some fantastic festivals. Our Welsh Government is working hard to deliver what you have asked for and as the school year came to a close, we marked a major milestone in the Welsh Government's commitment to children and families with the full rollout of Universal Primary Free School Meals. Since launching in 2022, more than 50 million meals have been served in primary schools across Wales. Now, every child in every primary school in Newport can count on a free school meal every day helping to ease pressure on families and ensure every child is ready to learn. Then looking ahead to a new school year, there's even more support available. The School Essentials Grant is now open for applications, offering up to £200 per child to help with the cost of uniforms, shoes, bags, and stationery. It's not just a boost for families, when you apply, your school receives extra funding too. Applications can be made through the Newport City Council website, you can also contact my office for help. For those facing financial difficulties, the Discretionary Assistance Fund has been improved with enhanced emergency payments and expanded eligibility. World's tallest Victorian Gothic tower transformed into 4-bed home with stunning panoramic views hits the market in UK
THE world's tallest Victorian Gothic tower, with five floors and a roof terrace, has been transformed into a breathtaking four bed home. Ever wanted to live out your Disney princess fantasy? Well now you can, as the former castle has hit the UK market. 7 7 7 Hadlow Tower, a Grade I listed 175ft property sits six feet taller than Nelson's Column, and was once part of a Romantic Gothic style 18th century castle. It was built by wealthy merchant Walter Barton May in 1838 so he could spy on his estranged wife who left him for a local farmer. The tower was then used as a look out during World War Two, but was saved by Royal painter Bernard Hailstone. During a ferocious storm in 1987, the tower was severely damaged, and fell in to disrepair before it was restored in 2013 with the help of a £4.2 million grant provided by English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Situated in the quaint village of Hadlow, in Tonbridge, Kent, the unique abode can be accessed via a triple-arched Gothic Entrance on the village high street. The castle can be found at the end of a long, winding, private countryside road, next to six additional buildings which have also now be converted into private properties. 7 The owners of these properties, as well as the owner of the tower have access to the communal former castle grounds, including sweeping lawns and a magnificent lake. Hadlow Tower, which is listed on Rightmove for an eye-watering £2,780,000 includes many original Gothic features, including orante mouldings and arched windows. However, the interior has been transformed in to a modern family home, that even has a lift. There's a cinema room, four bathrooms, a private garden and a castellated parapet, with astounding 360 degree views. This European castle was the inspiration for Disney The master bedroom, known as the Rapunzel Room, has its own roof terrace. The 3.45acre grounds boast a croquet lawn and an ornamental boating lake. Although the tower is tucked away, at the end of the lane is the bustling Hadlow high street, featuring a variety of shops, pubs, a library and a hairdressers. In nearby Tonbridge, there are also a number of great schools, and you can catch a train that will arrive in London in just 30-40 minutes. 5 Tips to Get on The Property Ladder Saving for your first property is tough, but it is possible. Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston filming in Newport
Everyone's favourite northern timelord Christopher Eccleston rocked up in the city centre for a cheeky bit of filming however, he wasn't fighting the Daleks or stopping Cybermen taking over John Frost Square! No instead, Salford born Eccleston was sighted on Corn Street for the filming of 'About a Bell.' Doctor who star Christopher Eccleston with Newport local Mark Vrettos (Image: Mark Vrettos) About a Bell is an independent film about Sami, a Syrian refugee, and Bryony, a young librarian, who embark on a highly personal quest to preserve a bell from a demolished church. Th brains behind the operation Welsh production company Hello Deer have been in the city for around three weeks. Eccleston was sighted by Newport local Mark Vrettos who then only moments later bumped into some key Welsh politicians. Speaking about Eccleston Mark said: 'He couldn't have been any nicer and was very enthusiastic about working in Newport again.' Mark then revealed who was just around the corner… He told the Argus: 'I hopped off the bus and there was another filming job with Elenid Morgan and Ken Skates!' Under new legislation young people aged 16 to 21 will be able to ride on buses across Wales for just £1 from September. Speaking at the event First Minister, Eluned Morgan will said: 'Cutting the cost of travel for young people and providing better transport for all is one of our top priorities. We are delivering our promises to young people across Wales. 'This investment will make a real difference to communities all over Wales, but especially in rural areas.' Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates added: 'I am delighted to be launching a scheme that offers affordable bus travel for young people to help them access education, training, employment, and leisure, as well as supporting our efforts to encourage more people to use public transport, reduce carbon emissions and tackle poverty.'
