Fresh photos reveal major update for squalid home where murdered Queensland teen Pheobe Bishop spent her final days

Sky News AU6 hours ago

The squalid home where Queensland teenager Pheobe Bishop lived before she was allegedly murdered by her housemates has undergone an extensive cleanup.
Fresh photos, first published by the Courier Mail on Tuesday, have revealed the home in the regional town of Gin Gin near Bundaberg has been transformed from its once-derelict condition.
Rubbish seen just last month piled throughout the front yard has been removed, while parts of the property's exterior appear to have been repainted.
Dozens of empty bottles of Coke, Mountain Dew and other soft drinks once seen scattered on the front porch have also been taken away.

The development comes after photos in June laid bare the shocking state of the property where Pheobe spent her final days.
The images, captured by 7News, showed the floors strewn with what appeared to be furniture debris, clothing and rubbish.
Further footage showed stacks of trash on beds, garbage bags on the floor, and dog faeces throughout the home.
Earlier in the police investigation, there were reports a number of dead dogs had been removed from the property.

Pheobe was reported missing from the Gin Gin area after she failed to board her scheduled May 15 flight from Bundaberg to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend.
After a large-scale investigation, Pheobe's two housemates James Wood, 34, and his partner Tanika Bromley, 33, were charged with the teenager's murder.
Mr Wood and Ms Bromley have also been charged with two counts each of interfering with a corpse.
The Gin Gin property was declared a crime scene as detectives probed Pheobe's suspicious disappearance.

The landlords previously told 7News that Ms Bromley ticked all the boxes as a tenant when they first met her, but claimed she was on the verge of being evicted after the house failed its last inspection.
The landlords, who lived at the address when they were first married, claimed the home had sustained damage like patched holes on walls which were not there prior to Ms Bromley and Mr Wood moving in.
"The air tastes dirty and it smells just … I don't know how people can be breathing in this," one landlord said.
A GoFundMe page had been created on behalf of the landlords to help support the repairs and clean-up efforts.
The fundraiser, which is no longer accepting donations, raised $2,275.

Terrifying moment gunman confronts couple at their home in Narangba caught on CCTV

Security footage has captured the moment a gunman confronted a couple at their suburban home before their car was sprayed with bullets not once, but twice over the weekend. The video, now in the hands of police, shows a man armed with what appears to be a double-barrel shotgun approaching the front door of the home in Narangba, about 50 minutes north of Brisbane in Queensland, on Saturday morning. The man is seen knocking repeatedly, appearing agitated, and demanding someone come to the door. 'Open the door, you ******* *****. Don't make me smash a window,' he yelled, hitting the door with his gun. He eventually walks away. Hours later, the couple's Mitsubishi Triton was found with bullet holes on the driver's side. The woman living at the home told 7NEWS the following day, it happened again. She believes the shooter is targeting her partner over a debt. 'You're still worried about what could happen because obviously, when someone's got a gun, you know, that's your life being threatened,' she said. Police launched a search operation on Monday after receiving information about a person of interest in the area. Specialist officers raided a property on Oxley Flat Road just after 7am, but no one was located. Crime Stoppers.

Heartbreaking new detail revealed amid search for beheaded South Australia man allegedly murdered by reality star girlfriend Tamika Chesser

A heartbreaking detail has emerged in the desperate search for the head of a decapitated man in South Australia, as his ex-reality star girlfriend remains at the centre of the tragic killing. Julian Story, 39, was found dismembered at a property on Flinders Highway, Port Lincoln on June 19, after authorities were notified of a small fire. Police confirmed his head had been removed during the dismemberment and they are still attempting to locate it so his family can lay him to rest. It has now also come to light Mr Story celebrated his 39th birthday just a day before he was horrifically killed. Investigators believe the South Australia man was killed about midnight on June 17. His partner, former Beauty and the Geek star Tamika Chesser, 34, has been charged with the crime. Police charged the ex-reality beauty with murder, destroying human remains to pervert the course of justice, and a separate charge of assaulting an emergency worker. Chesser was arrested at the scene at the couple's home, as police now turn to the public for information on her movements in the week of the alleged murder. CCTV footage has been reviewed by police of a woman, alleged to be Chesser, walking three dogs while dressed in a black hooded outfit and carrying a bag, during the time of the alleged murder and attempt at burning Mr Story's body. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke told the media on Friday Chesser "doesn't really use a vehicle" and he hoped people would call in to help with her possible movements. He further added it is "crucial" for police to locate Mr Story's head. "I can only imagine the grief this is causing Julian's family. "Julian's family are devastated. "Tamika Chesser remains in custody charged with murder, and that this was not a random incident." On Monday, Chesser's sister told 9News she had been concerned about her sibling's mental health in recent months. 'It just started getting worse,' she told the outlet. 'She started being in and out of mental health. She didn't mention anything and she just told everyone that she loves them. 'It's my sister, but that's not who she is or the Tamika we know. 'That's not the Tamika anyone knows.' Police have allege Chesser was in a 'catatonic' state when she was arrested. 'The accused was seated in a garden chair in the rear yard adjacent to Unit 3 in a catatonic and unresponsive state at this time,' according to court documents seen by NewsWire. Chesser sported a shaved head as she appeared in court via a videolink from mental health facility James Nash House, according to Daily Mail Australia. She was refused bail by Magistrate Ben Sale at the hearing, and a committal hearing was scheduled for December. She is currently being held under a mental health detention order. Chesser's sister added her family has not yet made contact with her, as she remains unresponsive. Chesser, who was runner-up on her season of Beauty and the Geek, has also modelled for men's magazines including Playboy, Ralph and FHM. Describing herself as a 'model and actress', Chesser also published explicit content on adult subscription site OnlyFans. Her old social media posts reflect she was interested in Jewish and Hindu mythology. In a post from June 2024, she wrote about her 'spiritual journey'. 'Our Creator our Father and our Mother Nature our Earth are crying out to us all,' she wrote. 'What do you think your ancestors would say in regards to the life you're currently living? Would they be proud? 'What do you see behind the makeup, behind the false lashes behind the hair cut or perfectly groomed beard … behind the Botox … Is the flesh you reside in of relevance? Does it make you the person you are?' Anyone with information that may assist the investigation has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

‘Ridiculous Mexican standoff' killing

In a violent confrontation described by a court as a 'ridiculous Mexican standoff', a man was fatally shot outside his Deception Bay home in 2018. On Tuesday, the Queensland Court of Appeal rejected an appeal by the shooter, Justin John Meale, upholding his life sentence for murder. The case stems from a dramatic and deadly confrontation over a failed drug deal between Meale and Clinton 'Rocky' Pollock that escalated on the night of September 2, 2018. Mr Pollock, who had a reputation for violence, sent a series of threatening messages to Meale, including one warning that he would 'spray your hole house up'. Donna Pollock, the mother of slain man Clinton Pollock, wept tears of joy outside court upon a guilty verdict being handed down for her son's killer, Justin John Meale. During a tense exchange described in court as a 'ridiculous Mexican standoff', Meale fatally shot an unarmed Mr Pollock outside the house. Mr Pollock's sister, who lived with him and her son, was woken about 11.30pm by the sound of a car and witnessed the shooting. After her brother was shot, she helped him back inside and attempted to call police, but Mr Pollock grabbed the phone from her. Her screams woke her son, who found Mr Pollock 'hunched over on the couch in the lounge room gasping for air'. Clinton 'Rocky' Pollock was shot dead outside his Deception Bay home in September 2018. He died shortly after. Meale claimed he intended only to wound Mr Pollock, aiming for the shoulder, and said he fled the scene out of fear of being shot. Following the shooting, Meale and his companions attempted to hide the weapon and misled police by providing false information. He lied about his presence at the scene, involvement in the shooting, gun ownership, and the location where the firearm was disposed of. At trial, these actions were presented as evidence of a 'consciousness of guilt'. The jury returned their verdict after less than an hour of deliberation. Credit: News Corp Australia Justice Thomas Bradley handed down a mandatory life sentence, noting Meale's history of drug use, developmental challenges, including Asperger's syndrome and autism spectrum disorder, and limited formal education but emphasising the gravity of the offence. In the Court of Appeal, Meale challenged whether he had the necessary intent for murder and argued that self-defence should apply. However, the court, led by president Mullins and justices Brown and Wilson, found the original jury was properly instructed, and the evidence supported the verdict beyond reasonable doubt. The court unanimously dismissed the appeal, confirming the life sentence and rejecting claims of judicial error.
