Tiger Woods' son Charlie finishes top 10 at Junior PGA Championship in West Lafayette
Woods would prove to doubters, if there were any, that he could hold his own on the big stage just over a week after being cut in the U.S. Amateur Championship in Dallas.
While the final result wasn't what Woods had desired on Friday, it still sends a message that golf's famous teenager could play the sport at an elite level.
Woods finished the Junior PGA Championship 9-under-par and tied for ninth after shooting a 74 on Friday afternoon.

His top nine finish gives him an automatic invite to next year's Junior PGA Tournament at Fields Range in Frisco, Texas.
Woods also has a chance to be a captain's pick for the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team which will be announced Tuesday.
While Woods wasn't made available for media post match on Friday, there were plenty of compliments shared in his direction about his game by 2025 Junior PGA Championship winner Lunden Esterline.

"I had fun playing with him and Pennson (Badgett)," Esterline said. "They were both good guys."
Three bogies and a double bogey on 15 ultimately hampered the 16-year-old from Jupiter, Florida.
His putting didn't carry the same sharpness on the greens at Ackerman-Allen Course where he'd birdied nine times the day before.
Woods faced an uphill battle entering Friday tied at -12 against Esterline who was -19.
Winning the Junior PGA Championship was feasible for Woods but he needed to replicate his performance from Thursday to catch Esterline.

Woods went bogey free his first eight holes but managed just one birdie before his struggles on 14 and 15.
Even with his late round troubles, Woods proved he is a top tier amateur golfer.

Notre Dame football fall practice No. 3 highlights shared on social media
Notre Dame football has been putting in the work early, and over the first few days of fall practice, we've seen plenty of new developments among the players. The quarterbacks haven't started off as many of us would have liked, but we have to remember, they are both very inexperienced and going up against a top-level defense every day will only make the better. The game will slow down when they play teams that aren't as good, which should be looked at as a good aspect. On Saturday, we saw plenty of the wide receivers going up against the cornerbacks, which showed up plenty about both positions. The Irish need offensive playmakers to step up at the position, and having a deep secondary will only help the team with a potential long season. Check out some of the best Notre Dame practice videos that were shared on social media. Jordan Botelho working his way back from an injury Botelho was looking like he was set to finally break out last fall, only to suffer a season-ending knee injury against Purdue and then a pectoral injury in the off-season. While the Irish have plenty of talent at the position, like more than a few others, there isn't much experience there. Having a veteran like Botelho will be a great mid-season pickup for Notre Dame. Freshman wide receiver Elijah Burress Sure, Burress wasn't facing off against one of Notre Dame's better cornerbacks in the rep, but the showed plenty on it. Creating separation at the line, using his quick first-step to get past the defender, all while keeping his balance and finishing the play shows plenty about the son of former NFL star Plaxico. The future of the position is in good hands with Burress. Freshman cornerback Cree Thomas It's a tough task for anyone going up against Malachi Fields, but Thomas held his own in the rep. You'd like to see him not holding at the top of the route, as there is potential for that to get called a penalty. However, you see how good the footwork is to stay with his assignment, and with more seasoning, should be a good one. Freshman athlete Scrap Richardson For a guy who hasn't been focusing on the position for long, Richardson sure has the look of a player who could help the Irish down the road. The speed is there, and you love to see the adjustment made to the route after the inside was taken away. That was a veteran move, that you don't see many freshman being able to make. Multiple WR vs. DB matchups Iron sharpens iron, and in this situation, the receivers going against the defensive backs is exactly that. This is one of the reasons why the wide outs have seen such a quick jump in talent, going up against elite defenders will only make them better. It will make the next level easier as well, which I think is a big factor why Fields ended up in South Bend. Lunden Esterline, Asterisk Talley win Junior PGA titles; Charlie Woods backs up to T-9
While the U.S. Ryder Cup picture is still unclear, the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team is nearly set. Lunden Esterline, a 2027 Auburn commit from Andover, Kansas, won the Junior PGA Championship by six shots on Friday afternoon and, in turn, earned an automatic Junior Ryder Cup berth. Esterline, who fired a second-round 62 to take control, closed in even-par 71 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex's Ackerman-Allen Course to finish the 72-hole tournament at 19 under. 'I'm still trying to comprehend the whole thing, but it feels amazing,' Esterline said. 'It means a ton. It gives me a lot of confidence going into bigger tournaments after this that I can do it, and I proved to myself this week that I'm just as good as anybody else out there.' Behind Esterline were 2026 Vanderbilt commit Tyler Mawhinney and 2027 recruit Guiseppe Puebla in a share of second. Mawhinney double-bogeyed the par-3 17th hole before capping his closing 69 with birdie. Puebla fired the round of the day by three shots, a 64. Because Mawhinney, who earlier this year teamed with Will Hartman to win the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, qualified for the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team via points (along with top-ranked Miles Russell), Puebla received the automatic berth afforded to the runner-up. Esterline, Puebla, Mawhinney and Russell will be joined by U.S. Junior Amateur winner Hamilton Coleman and a captain's pick to be named Tuesday in competing in the two-day Junior Ryder Cup, which is scheduled for Sept. 23-25 at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black (singles only). Ayden Fynaut of Fresno, California, nearly had a solo second before doubling the par-4 18th hole. He tied for fourth at 12 under with China's Zenghao Hou, who played his final five holes in 4 over. As for Charlie Woods, he began Friday in the final threesome alongside Esterline, but after back-to-back 66s, he shot 74 to slip to 9 under and T-9. He was 12 under for the tournament until going bogey-double at Nos. 14 and 15. Woods likely will not receive the captain's pick for the Junior Ryder Cup. That pick should be extended to 2026 Vanderbilt commit Luke Colton, who is the second highest-ranked junior in the World Amateur Golf Ranking at No. 24, behind only Russell (16th) and ahead of Tyler Watts (40th), who is not eligible for the pick because he skipped the Junior PGA to play this week's Western Amateur. Colton, fresh off making the semifinals at the U.S. Junior, declined to the play the Western in favor of chasing a Junior Ryder Cup spot. Asterisk Talley took the girls division, birdieing two of her last three holes to help offset three bogeys in her last five. Talley earned the one-shot win over Zoe Cusack, who closed her final round bogey-double.
