EXCLUSIVE FIFA moving fans to face television cameras to avoid viewers seeing empty stadiums at Club World Cup as revamped tournaments fails to sell tickets
FIFA are moving fans to face television cameras in an apparent bid to make stadiums at the Club World Cup appear full.
Mail Sport understands some of those who have bought tickets for the expanded tournament, which kicks off tonight, have found their seats shifted amid growing concerns over poor sales numbers.
Insiders at the governing body, who signed a $1bn deal with Dazn to broadcast the competition across the globe, have insisted that none of those impacted will find themselves in seats that are lower priced than the ones they originally purchased and that some will end up in better seats.
They say the strategy is commonplace at major sporting events, is normal practice and is also aimed at improving the atmosphere.
However, the revelation will no doubt add to further questions over the validity of the tournament, which many see as an attempted land grab on club football by FIFA bosses.
One seat map suggests that the last-16 match on June 28 will currently see Charlotte's 74,867-capacity Bank of America Stadium split in two, with one side healthily populated and the other virtually empty. That game will feature the side which finishes second in Chelsea 's group take on the winner of a group which includes German giants Bayern Munich.
Ticket prices have been slashed across the tournament, while Mail Sport reported that many of those who bought seats early have been given substantial part-refunds.
For tonight's opener, which sees Lionel Messi's Inter Miami take on Egypt's Al-Ahly at Miami's 65,326 Hard Rock Stadium, students at a local college were being offered five tickets for as little as $20. When the draw was made, in December, the cheapest seats were advertised for $349.
Much is at stake for FIFA, following a rebrand that has seen the competition extended from seven teams and one week to 32 teams and a month and optics will be key with the world watching. Visuals of huge swathes of empty seats will do little to suggest the expansion has whetted the appetite of the American public.
Days after the TV deal was announced Surj, a firm owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, announced a $1bn investment in Dazn. Saudi had two months previously been confirmed as the host of the 2034 World Cup host.
A FIFA spokesperson said: 'The FIFA Club World Cup is the start of a new era in global club football. By making the bold move of creating this new, truly global competition, FIFA is bringing together giants of the club game and spotlighting many new and successful clubs from all continents — introducing them to fans in the United States and to a broader global audience.
'We anticipate great attendances and electric atmospheres at its inaugural edition, with excitement growing with every round of matches and the tournament ultimately standing as the undisputed pinnacle of club world football. The appetite speaks for itself: fans from over 130 countries have already purchased tickets.'

Kia Defies Convention with Lower-Priced Seltos
Kia Bucking the Trend as Prices Climb Elsewhere Automakers usually mark the arrival of a new model year with a predictable price hike. Whether it's due to updated features, rising production costs, or now, even geopolitics, such as new tariffs on imported materials or components, most new cars cost more each year. A 1% to 3% increase is often considered standard fare. That's why the 2026 Kia Seltos stands out: instead of climbing across the board, it now offers a new, cheaper way into the lineup. A new entry-level Seltos LX FWD has been introduced, carrying a starting MSRP of $23,690, or $1,000 less than last year's base model. And while the rest of the trims do see slight bumps, they're modest $200 increases that fall well below the typical range. 0:03 / 0:09 What is the Sony Honda Mobility Afeela 1? Plus, the prices mentioned here don't include the untouched $1,395 destination charge. The price shift comes down to a key change in drivetrain strategy. Last year, all-wheel drive was standard in the base model. But this year, if you're in the market for a Seltos and you don't need an all-paw SUV and all the laundry list checked, then you have a cheaper choice. Source: Kia What You Get with the 2026 Seltos In terms of powertrains, the Seltos lineup carries over largely unchanged. The base engine remains a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, making 147 horsepower, paired to a CVT. Those who want more punch can look to the SX AWD, which continues to feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-pot that produces 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic. All Seltos models get standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while S, EX, and SX trims are equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system. Dual 10.25-inch panoramic displays are available on EX and SX, along with a wireless charging pad. The top-spec SX model also gets a premium Bose audio system with mood lighting, smart power liftgate, and optional Digital Key access. Safety is comprehensive across the lineup. Even the base trims include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning. Higher trims add blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, Highway Driving Assist, and adaptive cruise control. Source: Kia Headed to Dealers Soon Beyond the introduction of a new base offering and a fresh set of gloss black 17-inch wheels included in the EX Sunroof Package, there are no major design or engineering changes. That said, the introduction of FWD variants could also bring slight fuel economy gains, though no official EPA ratings have been released yet. Kia hasn't confirmed any hybrid option either, despite speculation. The 2026 Kia Seltos is expected to arrive at dealerships soon, offering buyers a rare win in a market where prices rarely move in the right direction. Revealed: How much Arsenal will have to pay for top striker target Benjamin Sesko after RB Leipzig 'drop price' for Slovenian star
Arsenal 's top striker target Benjamin Sesko will reportedly be available for around €70million (£60m) this summer. Mikel Arteta is keen to sign the Slovenian forward after another impressive season which saw him net 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions. The Gunners are long-term admirers of the RB Leipzig star and they had offers rejected for him in January An array of top European clubs and Saudi side Al-Hilal hope to land him this summer, but Sesko wants to remain in Europe. The 22-year-old, who joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg two years ago, is reportedly eager to move on this summer, despite being contracted at the German side until 2029. Leipzig are said to want a deal completed sooner rather than later in the summer, so they can spend more heavily in the transfer market. While they were 'dreaming' of a €80m (£68m) to €100m (£85m) payout for the striker, they have accepted that a more realistic fee for the young star is a €70m (£60m) base fee with add ons, according to Bild. Arteta is a huge fan of Sesko and is extremely keen on a move but there has been no contact between the clubs yet, the report adds. Sesko potentially dangled his strongest hint yet that he is interested in the Gunners. Arsenal fans may be encouraged to learn that Sesko has followed the club on Instagram. It is by no means confirmation of a move, but it at least indicates that Sesko - or whoever is managing his account - is interested in the north Londoners. Meanwhile, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta reportedly favours Viktor Gyökeres because he has proven his quality for longer. Berta wants to make five signings but has a wide range of potential targets if their principal ambitions don't come off. Gyokeres would cost around £65m and is still desperate for a move to the Premier League following a stunning season where he scored 53 goals and added 13 assists in 52 games for Sporting. However, there are reservations at the Emirates over whether he will be able to translate that form to the Premier League.

Revealed: Jhon Duran's HUGE Al-Nassr earnings from just five months in Saudi Arabia as he 'agrees move' to Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce
Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is reportedly set to leave Al-Nassr on loan. The 21-year-old joined the Saudi Pro League club late in January, with Villa cashing in £64.5million for a player who had netted 20 goals in the previous 18 months. Duran, who has since scored 12 goals in 18 games for Al-Nassr, has now agreed to join Fenerbahce on a season-long loan, according to Foot Mercato. The French publication claims that Fenerbahce have agreed to offer Duran an enormous salary in excess of what Al-Nassr have been paying him. If that is true then Duran will likely be among the highest-paid players in European football next season. As reported by Capology, Duran signed a five-and-a-half year contract worth slightly more than £335,000 per week when he signed for Al Nassr in January. Duran has just completed his 21st week as an Al-Nassr player, meaning he is so far estimated to have earned well in excess of £7m in Riyadh. That is around four and a half times what he would have banked had he remained at Villa on his previous weekly wage in the region of £75,000. Duran played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as Al-Nassr ended the 2024-25 season third in the Saudi Pro League, 13 points behind champions Al-Ittihad. Ronaldo's first Al-Nassr contract was due to expire at the end of this month, but he recently penned a new deal tying him to the club for a further two years. That deal is said to be worth a staggering £488,000 per day. Al-Nassr — backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which also owns Newcastle United — are one of the richest clubs in world football. Nevertheless, it has been suggested that Duran's move to Fenerbahce could be part of a cost-cutting exercise to help fund Ronaldo's remarkable new salary. Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season for the fourth year in a row. The Istanbul outfit have been managed by Jose Mourinho since last June when the former Chelsea, Man United and Real Madrid boss replaced Ismail Kartal. Duran will add firepower to an attack that scored 128 goals in 56 matches in Mourinho's first season.
