Malacañang assured the public Tuesday that the government is ready for the rainy season and the opening of classes for School Year 2025-2026.
At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said concerned agencies are prepared for the effects of the rainy weather, especially that classes in schools will also start next week.
''Handa naman po lagi ang mga ahensiyang concerned kapag po paparating ang tag-ulan. At nakausap po natin at nasabi na rin po ng Office of the Civil Defense ang kanilang kahandaan,'' Castro said.
(Concerned agencies are ready for the rainy season. The Office of Civil Defense already expressed their readiness.)
''Ang sabi po nila ay naka-focus sila sa prepositioning of goods like shelter repair kits, hygiene kits, water filtration kits, air-to-water units at marami pa pong iba. Pati po ang DSWD, and DOH at iba pang ahensiya ay handa po,'' she added.

PAGASA: New LPA spotted inside PAR

A new low pressure area inside PAR is being monitored by PAGASA, July 10, 2025. (Photo from PAGASA-DOST) State weather bureau PAGASA said it has spotted a new Low Pressure Area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of 8 p.m. Wednesday. The LPA has a "low potential" of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, it added. Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor an earlier LPA outside PAR, which is "unlikely" to become a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. It said Tropical Depression Danas, formerly Bising, is still being monitored outside PAR. In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Metro Manila and parts of the country will continue to experience rains due to the Southwest Monsoon or habagat. It said the moderate to at times heavy rains could trigger flash floods or landslides in some areas, and residents should take caution. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

One-year-old swept away by flood during evacuation in Las Piñas

A one-year-old girl died after she was swept away by floodwater during evacuation in Las Piñas City. According to Mark Salazar's Wednesday report on '24 Oras,' the baby was found along a riverbank in Barangay Talon 3 after her father allegedly lost hold of her while they were evacuating in Barangay Almanza Uno. "Mayroong isang lalaki na tumatakbo papunta rito, at binigay sa akin 'yung isang bata, at ang kaniyang declaration is ano, nalunod daw. So, habang nire-revive namin siya ay dinadala na rin namin siya sa hospital," barangay kagawad Jovel Lagla said. "Posible po hindi taga Barangay Talon Tres po 'yung bata, inanod lang talaga,' he added. (A man approached me and handed me the baby. He said she drowned. We were reviving her while we were on our way to the hospital. It's possible she's not from this barangay.) The baby's mother said the baby was brought to the hospital, but later on passed away. The river overflowed in the River Drive area of Las Piñas. In YouScooper Sheryl delos Santos' video, residents endured the flood as the water quickly rose. Traffic was hampered along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) due to the flood. Some commuters braved the flood as vehicles were stranded along the SLEX. YouScooper Sherilyn Santos said the flood in the Alabang exit is higher. According to the SLEX-Manila Toll Expressway Systems advisory, the tail end of traffic stretched up to 12 kilometers from the Alabang Exit southbound, while it reached over 4 kilometers at the Sucat Exit northbound earlier past midnight. Some residents in Mandaluyong City braved the knee-level flood on their way home. Meanwhile, students in Taguig and Pasig cities endured the rain. LPA outside PAR ‘unlikely' to become storm; Habagat to bring more rain in PH

The low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is 'unlikely' to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Wednesday afternoon. At 2 p.m., the state weather bureau said the LPA was located 1,655 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes. For now, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is expected to affect the weather conditions of the country, according to PAGASA's 4 p.m. daily weather forecast. These areas are Metro Manila, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique. Residents of affected areas were warned of possible flash floods and landslides. Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, the rest of Western Visayas, mainland Cagayan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Palawan, Lanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will see cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Habagat. These moderate to at times heavy rains may cause flash floods and landslides. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will persist throughout the rest of the country due to the Habagat. These severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides. PAGASA also said Tropical Cyclone Danas (formerly Bising) has weakened into a tropical depression. At 2 p.m., it was observed 695 km north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, or in the vicinity of Fujian, China, packing a maximum wind of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 90 km/h, and moving east southeast at 10 km/h. State meteorologists said winds will be moderate to strong, while coastal waters will be moderate to rough in the northern and western sections of Luzon. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience light to moderate wind conditions and slight to moderate coastal water conditions. Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:33 a.m. on Thursday.— Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
