Must-watch critically-acclaimed documentary that went viral is about to leave Netflix

Yahoo02-05-2025
Critically acclaimed documentary Blackfish is due to leave Netflix soon.
Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, the 2013 film examines the life of performing killer whale Tilikum, who spent most of his life at SeaWorld Orlando and was involved in the deaths of three people during decades in captivity.
The documentary, which multiple critics have described as a "must-see", tells his story to "underscore problems within the sea-park industry, man's relationship to nature, and how little has been learned about these highly intelligent mammals".
Blackfish is currently available to stream on Netflix, but this will soon change as the film is due to leave the streaming service on 31 May – so fans will have to act quickly if they want to watch it there.
The film was widely acclaimed by both audiences and critics following its release for its powerful exposé of orca captivity, earning it a near-perfect score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Empire described it as "informative, impassioned and damningly indicting", while The Hollywood Reporter wrote: "This gripping film presents a persuasive case against keeping the species - and by extension any wild animal - in captivity for the purposes of human entertainment."
"The impression the film leaves is of a deep-pocketed institution that, for all its claims of humane and professional treatment, tolerates practices that are fundamentally at odds with the animals' well-being," added Variety.
In 2016, SeaWorld made the decision to end all orca shows and put an end to its breeding programme shortly after it confirmed that Tilikum was dying.
Related:
In January 2017, it was announced that Tilikum had sadly died at the age of 36.
"The SeaWorld family is deeply saddened to announce that one of its most well-known orcas, Tilikum, has passed away," a statement from SeaWorld read at the time.
"Tilikum passed away early this morning, January 6, surrounded by the trainers, care staff and veterinarians that provided him around-the-clock world-class care.
"While today is a difficult day for the SeaWorld family, it's important to remember that Tilikum lived a long and enriching life while at SeaWorld and inspired millions of people to care about this amazing species."
Blackfish will be available to stream on Netflix until 31 May.

Is ‘Good Cop/Bad Cop' returning for season 2? Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on August 3, 2025, 19:00 IST Last updated August 3, 2025, 11:11 IST Good Cop/Bad Cop on The CW hooked fans with its mix of small-town charm, sibling banter, and twisty mysteries. Starring Leighton Meester as Lou Hickman and Luke Cook as her brother Henry, this comedy-drama about sibling detectives in Eden Vale, Washington, left everyone craving more after its Season 1 finale. With buzz building online, here's the latest on whether Season 2 is coming and what it might bring, Has Good Cop/Bad Cop Been Renewed? As of August 2025, The CW hasn't made anything official yet. There's been no greenlight for Season 2, but also — importantly — no cancellation. So while it's a bit of a waiting game, there's definitely still hope. The numbers are actually in the show's favor. Good Cop/Bad Cop scored an 88% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even more impressive 91% audience score. It was also one of The CW's better-performing shows this past spring, ranking ninth overall with around 305,000 viewers tuning in weekly (as of early April, per USTVDB). Those are solid stats for a new series in a crowded TV landscape — especially for a mid-season debut. But as with most things in TV, the final decision will probably come down to a mix of ratings, budget, and behind-the-scenes logistics. Sometimes these calls take a few months, so fans might need to hang tight just a little longer. What Could Happen in Good Cop/Bad Cop Season 2? While the network hasn't dropped any plot teases, Season 1 left the door wide open for more story. The finale dropped some major bombshells, especially around an old murder case that seems far from over. The ripple effects of that reveal could reshape the Hickman family dynamic — not just between Lou and Henry, but with their father, Big Hank, too. And let's not forget the other threads. Lou's emotional baggage, her messy on-and-off relationship with Officer Bobby Dougan (played by Lincoln Lewis), and Henry's mysterious past in Seattle — all of that is just waiting to be explored further. In a recent interview, Leighton Meester spoke about how the show plays with the whole 'good cop/bad cop' idea, saying, 'Lou is probably the good cop and Henry is probably the bad cop — but that will shift, and what good and bad means is open for interpretation.' So if the show returns, expect even more moral grey zones and emotionally charged cases that test both siblings in unexpected ways. There's also a strong supporting cast — like Officer Sarika Ray and dispatcher Lily Lim — who fans would love to see get more screen time. Eden Vale might be a small town, but there are clearly a lot more secrets hidden beneath the surface. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . ‘The Bad Guys 2' Just Set A Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Record

The Bad Guys 2, the sequel to the Dreamworks 2022 original, has just hit theaters. While it remains to be seen how it will far against Fantastic Four and Superman , reviews are in and in one category in particular, they are stunning. As it stands, while The Bad Guys 2 has a great 85% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, it has an even better 95% audience score. That means it is currently tied as the highest audience score for a Dreamworks animated film, going back almost 30 years. Additionally, it's the only sequel to do so out of the two, lower profile movies it's tied with. There are only two sequels in the whole top ten list besides The Bad Guys 2, albeit I guess you could count Puss in Boots as a spin-off instead. Here's the list: The Bad Guys 2 – 95% Spirit Untamed – 95% – 95% Abominable – 95% – 95% Puss in Boots: The Last Wish – 94% – 94% The Croods: A New Age – 94% – 94% The Bad Guys – 93% – 93% How to Train Your Dragon – 91% – 91% Shrek – 90% – 90% How to Train Your Dragon 2 – 90% – 90% The Prince of Egypt – 90% Kids movies tend to have audience scores that skew rather high, 'crowd pleasers,' as they are, but getting up there this high is an achievement. Interestingly, it's fun to know that the recent How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake got a 97% audience score, better than any of these and one of the best for a mainstream film this decade. Impressive! As for The Bad Guys 2 , here's the synopsis, building off the concept and events of the first one: 'Everyone's favorite felons are back, and this time, they've got company. In the new action-packed chapter from DreamWorks Animation's acclaimed comedy smash about a crackerjack crew of animal outlaws, our now-reformed Bad Guys are trying (very, very hard) to be good, but instead find themselves hijacked into a high-stakes, globe-trotting heist, masterminded by a new team of criminals they never saw coming: The Bad Girls.' It's quite a cast, led by Sam Rockwell, but also featuring Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Zazie Beetz. Natasha Lyonne and Awkwafina. The original made $250 million worldwide, a solid haul, but it seems like the sequel could end up beating it, as its opening weekend looks like it will be higher. It's dangerously close to Fantastic Four in taking the #1 spot. It's certainly the case that the audience score falls in time as more reviews come in, but for now? Yeah, it's record-level. YAHOO POLL: Has Fantastic Four revived the MCU for you?

The Fantastic Four: The First Steps had its world premiere on Monday (21 July) night and the first reactions to the film were generally positive. The film was under immense pressure and expectations, no doubt due to its troubled cinematic history. Its first iteration under 20th Century Fox in 2005 was a flop. A reboot in 2015, also under 20th Century Fox, reimagined Marvel's First Family as a dark, gritty comic book film but it didn't fare better either. However, Marvel can finally breathe a sigh of relief as, despite a steep drop at the box office in its second weekend, the film is sitting well with critics. If anything, the fact that it retained the top position in the second weekend is a testament to the strength of the film. Fantastic Four has garnered an 86 per cent rating with critics and a 92 per cent rating with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. If it matters, Fantastic Four scored higher than James Gunn's Superman – which was released earlier in July. So, we want to hear from you – Has Fantastic Four revived the MCU for you?
