New stores are opening at two malls in Miami's Brickell area. See what's coming

Miami Heralda day ago
The newly 'Simonized' Brickell City Centre mall in Miami announced plans to fill nearly 30,000 square feet with nine new stores, boutiques and a cafe.
During the same time frame, nearby Mary Brickell Village is also adding three new food spots, including one from a James Beard-winning chef with South Florida ties, and a California-based auto maker that sells electric vehicles.
'Bringing a James Beard winner and other nationally recognized names to Mary Brickell Village marks a meaningful milestone in its evolution,' said Dani Cohn, vice president of lifestyle leasing at owner and management company Kimco Realty.
What's coming to Brickell City Centre
Some of the new tenants at the open-air Brickell City Centre mall that opened in 2016 are already aboard. The newcomers are to roll out through 2025 into 2026, according to the mall.
The announcement arrived at the time Brickell City Centre changed hands from Swire Properties to new owner Simon Property Group. Simon already had a partial, but not managerial, stake in the mall. (That is similar to its arrangement with Aventura Mall. Simon currently owns Dadeland, The Falls and Sawgrass Mills malls, among other South Florida shopping plazas.)
'Each new brand joining Brickell City Centre reflects the evolution of this destination as a cornerstone of Miami,' said Swire's Senior Vice President David Martin in a statement to the Miami Herald. 'As global and digitally native brands choose to invest here, they affirm BCC's role as a place where commerce, community and culture converge.'
The additions are 'a clear reflection of where retail is headed,' Martin said, pitching toward immersive, 'lifestyle-oriented' retail environments that target millennial and Gen Z shoppers.
'Our vision has always been focused on building a destination that goes beyond retail and resonates with the way people shop and socialize today,' he said.
Here are the new debuts at the 500,000 square-foot Brickell City Centre at 701 S. Miami Ave.
Now open:
▪ Alo Yoga: Los Angeles-based premium lifestyle brand specializing in luxury activewear.
▪ Dior Beauty: Fragrance, makeup and skincare collections.
▪ Hapa Kristin: Korean eyewear brand, contact lenses, fashion-forward vision accessories.
▪ Joe & The Juice: Scandinavian cafe known for juices, coffee and bites in fast-casual atmosphere.
Summer openings:
▪ Aritzia: Vancouver, Canada-based design house known for style-forward wardrobe. Aritzia opened a store at Dadeland Mall in Kendall in December 2024, and in April 2022 opened at Aventura Mall.
▪ Harmont & Blaine: Italian men's and women's clothing brand founded in 1986 that offers Mediterranean-styled T-shirts, shoes, polo shirts, Bermuda shorts. You'll also find a location at Aventura Mall.
Fall debuts:
▪ Mejuri: Jewelry brand specializing in minimalist, everyday fine jewelry.
▪ Vuori: California-based activewear brand merging fitness and lifestyle apparel.
Coming in 2026:
▪ Massimo Dutti: Spanish fashion label for men and women, selling clothing and accessories. Joins a location at Aventura Mall.
What's coming to Mary Brickell Village
'We're proud to bring such a diverse mix of tenants to Mary Brickell Village,' Katie Wycoff, director of real estate at Kimco Realty, said in a statement. 'Uchibā's locations in Austin and Dallas have a strong following. Tyson Cole's sister concepts Uchi Miami in Wynwood and Uchiko in Miami Beach already resonate with local diners. This next chapter reflects our focus on quality, originality and creating an experience that feels distinctly Brickell.'
Here are the new tenants coming to Mary Brickell Village at 901 S. Miami Ave.
Opening late summer:
▪ Rivian: California-headquartered, all-electric automaker, will open a 4,000-square-foot space. There is a Rivian outlet at Aventura Mall, too.
Fall debut:
▪ Playa Bowls: New Jersey-based fast-casual chain known for smoothies, juices and acai, pitaya and coconut bowls.
Winter debut:
▪ Van Leeuwen: New York City cult-favorite dairy and vegan ice cream shop opens a 1,190-square-foot scoop shop this winter. Contemporary country-pop singer Maren Morris lent her name to an orange and vanilla Dreamsicle flavor for Van Leeuwen.
Coming late spring 2026:
▪ Uchibā: Translated as 'Uchi Bar' in Japanese, the izakaya‑inspired cocktail bar and sushi restaurant concept is from James Beard Award-winning chef and owner Tyson Cole. Mary Brickell Village will serve as Uchibā's first Florida location and its 3,581-square-foot space takes over the former Toscano Divino site. Sound familiar? This evolution of Cole's Austin restaurant Uchi joins an Uchiko (aka 'Child of Uchi') that opened in Wynwood in 2021. Another Uchiko opened in March at the Eighteen Sunset development on Purdy Avenue in Miami Beach's Sunset Harbour neighborhood.

Is a toxic boss ruining your life? Here's what to do about it, before things get worse

If you're feeling overwhelmed and diminished at work, a toxic manager could be to blame. A bad boss can define the work experience. Someone who casts down on the people who report to them and ignores their needs can end up demolishing their sense of belonging, determination and purpose, experts warn. 'A bad boss can make or break your employment,' Vicki Salemi, a New York City-based career expert for Monster, told USA Today. Advertisement 'You may love your job and enjoy time with your colleagues and the company you work for, but at the end of the day, if your boss is toxic, this often surpasses cumulative positive reasons to stay.' Not only does having a bad boss decrease morale, it can also affect one's mental health. A 2024 survey by Monster found that 54% of those surveyed said they had poor mental health as a result of a toxic, controlling manager. But how can you tell if your manager is toxic, and what can you do about it? Signs that your manager is toxic They don't have your back Advertisement One telltale sign of a manager that doesn't support their employees is when they try to make a lower-level worker look bad and throw them under the bus. 'They dim your light to protect their ego,' Steven Claes, who writes about leadership, human resources and culture, recently shared on LinkedIn. 'Your success threatens their fragile self-esteem… Your confidence is the price of their power trip.' 'Your manager should be someone you think of as trustworthy. They should always have your back,' Salemi told USA Today. 'Whether you're in the room or not, they sing your praises.' 4 'A bad boss can make or break your employment,' Vicki Salemi, a career expert for Monster, told USA Today. Nattakorn – They play favorites Advertisement Playing favorites and pitting employees against one another also creates a hostile work environment. 'Say you're in a team meeting. You and four colleagues worked collaboratively on a project, but your boss only gives accolades and shines a spotlight on one person, their go-to favorite,' Salemi told the outlet. 'That's a sign of toxic leadership.' Encouraging cliques or rivalries within the office, as well as withholding praise from certain employees and not others can take away any source of trust and collaboration. They lack empathy and self-awareness Toxic bosses often lack the ability to recognize their emotions, according to the American Association for Physician Leadership. They tend to think they're right about everything, which can lead to animosity on the team. Advertisement 'Toxic bosses don't invest time or energy in building relationships to understand how their communication approach may impact others,' the AAPL said. 'They struggle to relate to team members' challenges, perspectives, and emotions, and this in turn leads to low trust.' 4 Empathy and compassion allows a boss to lead and connect with their direct reports, and those who lack this trait tend to be toxic managers. Dragana Gordic – They micromanage and make unrealistic demands Another example of toxic behavior in a manager is someone who nitpicks every detail and checks in too much, or someone who asks for a detailed list of how you spent every minute of your workday. This demonstrates a lack of trust and a need for control, insecurity as a manager, or the inability to delegate tasks. And the demands can be unrealistic, such as expecting you to do the work of multiple people without proper compensation, which can ultimately lead to burnout, resentment and lower productivity. Regardless, those who are micromanaged at work have reported nearly double the stress and tension at work compared to those who aren't micromanaged, according to a 2023 American Psychological Association survey. 'Toxic bosses will weaponize their authority, expecting employees to carry out their instructions obediently and without questioning their authority or the value of the work being undertaken,' the AAPL wrote. 'They seek to control how you complete your work.' They reject feedback If a boss is given constructive feedback and responds by getting defensive or dismissive, or even by retaliating, this is a sign of poor emotional intelligence and an inflexible mindset — which is an obstacle to successful leadership. Advertisement 'Accountability is for everyone else, not them,' Claes noted. Along with rejecting feedback, toxic managers reject ideas from employees as well. 'They shut down new ideas faster than you can blink,' Claes wrote. ''We've always done it this way' is their mantra.' 4 Playing favorites and pitting employees against one another also creates a hostile work environment. Sathaporn – How to deal with a toxic manager 'A good boss lifts you up. They don't tear you down. You deserve to feel valued at work,' Claes said on LinkedIn. Advertisement When dealing with a toxic manager, Claes suggests making sure you know your worth, set clear boundaries, documenting everything, build a support network and if needed, look for a different job. There are also direct steps you can take to potentially improve the situation and protect your well-being. Talk to your boss directly If you feel comfortable, you can approach the toxic manager directly and let them know how their behavior is affecting you. 'First, prepare what you're going to say with specific examples,' Salemi told USA Today. 'It's OK to go into the meeting with notes in your hand or on your phone.' Advertisement She suggested taking the following steps: State the facts of the situation. Let your boss know you felt unsupportive and share what you would hope for instead. Read their body language and allow for silence, even if it's uncomfortable. 'It's important to be factual. State specific examples, link them to your feelings, and talk about how it undermined your ability to do the work asked of you. Don't be accusatory or apportion blame,' the AAPL advised. With a toxic boss, it's possible they may not respond well, perhaps deflecting or trying to gaslight you — but it's important to keep calm. And like Claes suggested, document the conversation in case you need to take it to to a higher up. Advertisement 4 There are direct steps you can take to potentially improve the situation and protect your well-being. YURII MASLAK – Go to HR If necessary, you can go to human resources for help with a toxic manager — but be cautious and only do it under certain circumstances. 'If it's a discrimination issue, then absolutely go to HR,' Salemi told USA Today. 'But if it's something like your boss playing favorites, that can be viewed as more subjective.' Manage up Managing up is more of a 'wild card' approach and is for certain situations. For example, if your manager is going on vacation and delegated tasks to you, you can schedule a time to meet with their boss to check in and provide updates on your end. 'It's not a one-size-fits-all approach, but it's more to get onto your boss's boss's radar screen so they can interact with you and see your hard work firsthand,' Salemi said.

SoFi Technologies (NasdaqGS:SOFI) Surges 94% In Last Quarter

SoFi Technologies has been actively enhancing its digital financial services platform by introducing new crypto-powered capabilities and entering a partnership with Benzinga to deliver enhanced market insights. These recent initiatives, along with key product releases, like the SmartStart refinancing option and expansion of private market fund access, may have contributed to the company's 94% share price increase over the last quarter. Although these developments could add weight to broader market trends, the market rose a modest 2% over the last 7 days and 14% over the past year, suggesting SoFi's performance aligned with these overall movements. Be aware that SoFi Technologies is showing 1 possible red flag in our investment analysis. Uncover the next big thing with financially sound penny stocks that balance risk and reward. The recent initiatives by SoFi Technologies, including its partnership with Benzinga and the introduction of new crypto-powered capabilities, alongside its SmartStart refinancing option, may align with the company's efforts to expand its financial services and enhance user engagement. These developments could potentially influence increased revenue and earnings in the future by expanding the toolset available to consumers, thereby potentially attracting more customers to its platform. Over a longer-term period, SoFi's total shareholder return, combining share price growth and dividends, was 196.65% over the past three years, indicating significant growth compared to the past year's industry return of 40.9% and the broader market return of 14.3%. This performance underscores the company's advancement and investor confidence beyond short-term fluctuations. The current share price movement, with an increase of 94% over the last quarter, remains noteworthy when evaluated against the consensus analyst price target of US$13.83. Presently, the stock trades slightly below this target, reflecting that analysts see modest potential upside or alignment with current valuation metrics. Analysts anticipate revenue growth of 14.6% annually, which is projected to outpace the broader US market's expected growth of 8.7%. If the new initiatives succeed in boosting engagement, they could enhance financial metrics, supporting a fair value closer to the price target. Single women ditch wearing makeup on first dates — and experts encourage it

These ladies are going au natural at their amorous appointments — and loving it. In general, Gen Z has trended towards skipping out on classic date nights like traditional dinners and drinks in favor of more adventurous, active ventures like ocean swims, yoga sessions, or rock climbing. These activities allow potential paramours to get to know each other without the pressure of sitting across from each other and talking for hours on end — though eventually, there comes a point in a relationship where this is necessary. Advertisement The latest move to ease the tension and anxiety of a first date? No makeup, a la Pamela Anderson. 3 The growing trend is also beneficial for those who simply don't enjoy wearing makeup, or don't know how to apply it properly. fizkes – Both Millennials and Gen Zers have taken to the Internet to share their experiences with the movement, and overall, they're psyched about their new looks, and the confidence boosts it can — potentially, as @madisonoud pointed out — bring with it. Advertisement @madisonoud i'm either going to be really proud of myself or hysterically crying in 2 hours ♬ MUTT – Leon Thomas Aside from saving plenty of time getting ready, skipping out on glam can also be helpful for those struggling with perfection compulsions and people-pleasing. Experts say that arriving at a first date fresh-faced can help screen potential suitors who simply aren't a match. 3 If your date doesn't like you as you are, ditch him, many women say. DragonImages – Advertisement 'If someone you date loses interest simply because you weren't wearing makeup, that's useful information,' said Janine O'Brien, a licensed clinical psychologist and relationship therapist, in an interview with Bustle. Women online agree — why waste your time getting ready for someone you barely know, especially when there's a fair chance they didn't do the same? 'Don't see the issue. Men don't do their makeup,' said one comment under @madisonoud's video. 'To your date, [going makeup-free] may communicate confidence, self-acceptance, and authenticity. And that can set the tone for a relationship where you're not afraid to show up as your full self,' O'Brien said. Advertisement Some women are also adopting strategies like wearing more makeup as they go on more dates with the same person — both to show their interest in the other person and to demonstrate that effort goes both ways. 3 Today's generation of women are saying buh-bye to mascara and lip gloss for first dates. Drobot Dean – Gen Z daters are not only ditching makeup — they're apparently also leaving dating apps in the past and turning towards old-fashioned matchmaking services. 'Matchmaking in this country has never been more popular,' Adam Cohen-Aslatei, director of Tawkify matchmaking service, told The Post. 'It's really grown pretty tremendously.' 'Business has never been stronger for Cohen-Aslatei and the company saw its busiest month last year.
