Tony Buzbee, attorney who represented Shannon Sharpe's rape accuser, takes parting shot at Hall of Famer

Fox News4 days ago
Tony Buzbee did not expect to be involved in a highly-publicized case with Shannon Sharpe, but when the opportunity came calling, he jumped on board.
The football Hall of Famer-turned-national television star was accused of assault, sexual assault, battery and sexual battery. He was also accused of engaging "in the intentional infliction of emotional distress," and his accuser was seeking $50 million in damages.
The situation got ugly, with Sharpe calling the allegations a "shakedown," while he and his legal team released sexually explicit messages that the woman had allegedly sent him.
The parties settled last month, and Buzbee said that "both sides acknowledge[d] a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship."
However, upon Sharpe being let go of ESPN as part of the case's aftermath, Buzbee took one more half-hearted shot at the former tight end.
"I didn't wake up one morning and say, 'I want to sue Shannon Sharpe.' He has no relevance in my life," Buzbee told Esquire. "I actually think he's very entertaining when he yells and screams and talks about sports that he's not involved in. But if I think it's a legitimate case, then I pursue it. And I think this is worth my time."
Buzbee represented two dozen of the women who accused Deshaun Watson of sexual assault, and all but one of those cases ended in a settlement. Buzbee also represented the woman who accused Jay-Z and Sean "Diddy" Combs of assault when she was just 13. Those charges were dropped, and Jay-Z is now suing a woman and Buzbee.
Sharpe accused Buzbee of targeting Black men, but Buzbee dismissed such a notion.
"I guess a bunch of old White men could say I'm targeting them, and a bunch of multinational corporations could say I'm targeting them as well … I guess you could say I was targeting BP," he said, regarding his lawsuit against the oil company. "If I think it's a legitimate case, then I pursue it."
Sharpe said that he "really enjoyed" his abbreviated stint at ESPN, where he appeared on "First Take."
"I really enjoyed my time at ESPN. It gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me really just grow. They saw me, you know, 'Lakers in 5' and they saw me say all these funny, these analogies that my grandparents gave me. And I was able to bring that to ESPN, so I'm very, very grateful for that."

Oregon man accused of killing 3 women and dumping their bodies is indicted on fourth murder charge

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man accused of killing three women in the Portland area and dumping their bodies has been indicted on a fourth murder charge, authorities said Tuesday. A grand jury has indicted Jesse Lee Calhoun in the November 2022 death of 22-year-old Kristin Smith, Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez said during a news conference. The new indictment, which comes roughly 2 1/2 years after Smith's remains were found, adds one count each of second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse to Calhoun's case. Calhoun was indicted last year in the deaths of Charity Perry, 24; Bridget Webster, 31; and Joanna Speaks, 32. He pleaded not guilty to the three counts each of second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the initial indictment. He remains in custody in Multnomah County's Inverness Jail, and his trial is expected to be held in 2027, authorities said. His defense attorney, Cameron Taylor, declined to comment. Melissa Smith, Kristin Smith's mother, said she was 'overwhelmed with emotion.' 'I've always stayed hopeful that I would get justice for Kristin,' she said at the news conference. 'I thank every single person who didn't give up on this case." The bodies of Perry, Webster and Speaks were found over several months starting in early 2023 — in wooded areas, in a culvert and under a bridge — in a roughly 100-mile (160-kilometer) radius, sparking concern that a serial killer might be targeting young women in the region. Calhoun was arrested in June 2023 on unrelated parole warrants and indicted in May 2024 in the women's deaths. The indictment came weeks before Calhoun was due to be released from state prison, where he was returned in 2023 to finish serving a four-year term for assaulting a police officer, trying to strangle a police dog, burglary and other charges. He was initially released in 2021, a year early, because he helped fight wildfires in 2020 under a prison firefighting program. Gov. Tina Kotek revoked the commutation in 2023 when police began investigating him in the deaths.

'South Park' To Lose Streaming Home Following Donald Trump Episode Debut

The hit television series South Park made headlines once again with its Season 27 premiere which featured the debut of South Park 's very own Donald Trump parody. The controversial episode sparked debate and laughter across the internet, something which South Park has succeeded in doing for years, and now the series is once again the topic of conversation following the announcement that it will lose its streaming home. South Park has been available to stream via HBO Max for just over five years now, making the series one of the streaming platform's most notable hits. As is the case with the streaming world, however, their license to stream the series has ran out just after the debut of the aforementioned Donald Trump episode titled ' Sermon on the 'Mount .' Fortunately, fans will still have a streaming alternative after South Park leaves HBO Max on August 5, as shared via ComicBook. This alternate platform will become the show's new and exclusive streaming home while South Park also continues to air on television via Comedy Central. The outlet specifically confirms that, as a result of a deal between Paramount Global and Park Country, the company ran by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the series will now be available to stream only via Paramount Plus. This deal was made as part of a $1.5 billion exclusive five-year deal with the new streaming home. As a result, all previous 26 seasons will be available to stream in addition to the feature-length specials based on the property. The deal also offers a new home for future episodes of the series, with as many as 50 new episodes being greenlit for a total of five new seasons. The Donald Trump parody episode Sermon on the 'Mount was just the first new episode of South Park in two years, but it's brought the series back with a bang, and now the next episode is scheduled to drop via Comedy Central on August 6. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding South Park as we have them. As for now, it looks like fans will also have to start using Paramount Plus for their South Park binges as the series will officially have left HBO Max this month.
