Sophie Cunningham Shares Lively Response to Lexie Hull in New Post

Sophie Cunningham Shares Lively Response to Lexie Hull in New Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the reasons people considered the Indiana Fever legitimate contenders for the WNBA championship coming into this season was the offseason additions they made. Advertisement One of those additions is guard Sophie Cunningham, who came to Indiana in a huge 10-team trade back in February. While she has struggled with her shooting so far this year, she made sure to provide intensity and competitiveness through rebounding and steals averaging 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game this season. Guard Lexie Hull, who is in her fourth season with Indiana, shared a multi-slide post on Instagram, and Cunningham reacted to the last slide, which shows Hull getting hit in the head with a basketball during a recent game. "the last slide 😭😭😭😭 I can't stop laughing fr," Cunningham wrote. Cunningham previously spent six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury after they took her with the No. 13 pick in the 2019 draft. She developed into a good 3-point shooter and a reliable ball-handler, and she played a key role in their run to the 2021 WNBA Finals. That decision seemed to establish her as an enforcer for the young Fever. Advertisement Hull is an outstanding 3-point shooter in her own right and has made 50% of her attempts from that distance so far this season. She is averaging 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals a game this year. The Fever have an 8-8 record, and even though Clark has been in and out of the lineup lately due to multiple injuries, they have won six of their last 10 games. Caitlin Clark Shows Support for Former Iowa Hawkeyes Star on Monday

Caitlin Clark Shows Support for Former Iowa Hawkeyes Star on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Monday marked the official start of free agency in the NBA. Things have already been hectic around the league in recent days with seemingly countless trades taking place. Advertisement One team that has been active on the trade market is the Boston Celtics, who could be without star forward Jayson Tatum for all of the 2025-26 season after he tore his Achilles in the playoffs. They traded center Kristaps Porziņģis and guard Jrue Holiday, and they seem to be set for a gap year of sorts after failing to repeat as NBA champs. On Monday, they agreed to a deal with free agent big man Luka Garza. WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who, like Garza, is a former Iowa Hawkeye, reacted to the news on social media. Caitlin Clark, Instagram Garza, 26, stands 6-feet-10 and weighs 243 pounds, and was a sizable star while at Iowa. He was voted the national college player of the year in 2021 with averages of 24.1 points and 8.7 rebounds a game, and that year, he shot 55.3% from the field and 44% from 3-point range. Advertisement He hasn't been able to duplicate that type of success in the pros, however. In four NBA seasons, the Washington, D.C. area native has career averages of 4.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 7.8 minutes a game. While she has been struggling with her shooting, she has been named a starter in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game. Dick Vitale Had Animated Response to Unexpected Caitlin Clark News

Dick Vitale Had Animated Response to Unexpected Caitlin Clark News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Monday, the WNBA announced its starters for this year's All-Star game, which will take place on July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the home of the Indiana Fever. Not surprisingly, Fever star Caitlin Clark was named a starter and a captain after she led everyone in fan voting. Advertisement However, she ranked just ninth in player balloting among guards. In fact, teammate Kelsey Mitchell got more votes than Clark from fellow WNBA players. Longtime basketball commentator and former head coach Dick Vitale took to X to accuse other players of letting jealousy get in the way of voting for Clark, a player who has taken the league into the stratosphere. The WNBA and women's basketball in general used to be a punchline across the sports world. But ever since her senior year at Iowa during the 2023-24 campaign, Clark has generated an unprecedented amount of interest in the sport. As Vitale pointed out, thanks to Clark's influence, WNBA teams now have chartered planes, salaries have increased and overall interest in the league has gone through the roof. Advertisement While she has struggled with her shooting since entering the league last year, she has almost single-handedly made the Fever competitive. Despite being in and out of the lineup lately due to injury, they have won six of their last 10 games and currently hold an 8-8 record. They will play for the Commissioner's Cup on Tuesday against the Minnesota Lynx. Clark's status for that game is uncertain due to a groin injury.
