Abu Dhabi Police warns drivers misusing Darb Toll timing; reminds motorists of Dh500 fine for disrupting traffic

reminded motorists to refrain from stopping on road shoulders, especially near the 'Darb' toll gates, except in case of an emergency. This reminder came after instances of violations were detected through advanced smart surveillance systems. The concerned authorities asserted that the act of stopping illegally and blocking the flow of traffic can attract a fine of Dh500.
This move comes after the Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police noticed that drivers are intentionally pulling over on the shoulder just before the toll gates, waiting for the toll-free period to start, according to Gulf News. This act increases the chances of endangering the lives of people on the road and disrupts traffic flow.
Abu Dhabi Police shared a video on Friday, June 27, 2025, in which several drivers were caught stopping a few minutes before crossing the toll gate and only moving after the toll-free period began.

Darb toll
gate system was implemented in January 2021 to minimise the traffic congestion in Abu Dhabi and to encourage the use of public transport.

It is pertinent to mention that the Darb toll system operates during peak hours only: Morning: 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and Evening: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Besides these timings, tolls are not charged. Also, no toll is charged on Sundays or on public holidays.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police also identified other dangerous behaviours besides stopping near toll gates: These behaviours include acts like sudden lane changes, obstructing traffic, unauthorised entry into bus stops designated for public transport
The authorities also reminded the motorists of the following penalties under Ministerial Resolution No. (178) of 2017: Wrong parking or obstructing traffic: Dh500, sudden deviation: Dh1,000 and 4 black points, unauthorised use of bus stops or special lanes: Dh400
Highlighting that violations can lead to legal action, Abu Dhabi Police emphasised that all wrong acts are being thoroughly monitored through smart systems to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow across the Emirates.

South Goa highway project to use AI-driven construction technology
Panaji: The Union ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) has chosen highway projects across the country where AI-driven technology will be implemented. Of the 16 pilot projects chosen across the country for the implementation of the technology in 2025-26, one is the Rs 700 crore project in Goa for the four-laning of 22km of the highway from Bendordem to Canacona. The ministry will use Automated and Intelligent Machine-aided Construction (AIMC) for this project, which was successfully tested in the construction of the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway project. Officials said that the Bendordem to Canacona project was sanctioned and will be awarded soon. The new technology will ensure faster, efficient and accurate construction with minimum human intervention. 'AIMC involving GPS-aided motor grader, intelligent compactor and stringless paver were used in the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway project. For the Bendordem to Canacona project, the ministry has said it will facilitate the contractor to get the required licence for the needed radio frequency range to use the technology, from the department of telecommunications,' said an official. Jaisalmer: Jaisalmer superintendent of police Sudhir Choudhary Sunday said that Pakistani couple, Ravi Kumar (17) and Shanti Bai (15), who had crossed international border near Jaisalmer recently, suspected to have died of thirst and dehydration.
