Woman alleges ‘exploitation' by cricketer in Ghaziabad
Ghaziabad: A 25-year-old woman has approached the chief minister's office with allegations of emotional and physical exploitation against a 27-year-old cricketer, saying he promised her marriage.
The complaint — filed through the integrated grievance redressal system (IGRS) — was transferred to the assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Indirapuram, on June 21. Cops in the city have been given time till July 21 to act on the matter.
The woman, who is from Indirapuram, claimed she was in a five-year relationship with the cricketer, during which she became "completely dependent on the person both financially and emotionally".
She later discovered that he was allegedly involved in "similar deceitful relationships with other women".

The complainant said she first approached the women's helpline 181 on June 14, but it did not make much headway. "I am economically and socially helpless and is therefore directly seeking justice from the chief minister's office," she wrote in her complaint.
A senior police officer confirmed that the woman's statement had been recorded.

She told investigators that the cricketer had introduced her to his family and "behaved like a husband", which earned her trust. The complainant claimed to possess evidence, such as chats, screenshots of video calls, and photographs.
"We will conduct a complete investigation and submit a report soon," said Abhishek Srivastava, ACP Indirapuram. He added that the cricketer — a left-arm fast medium bowler who has been playing the IPL since 2022 — had been served a notice to appear before police to record his statement.

At least two people were killed when firefighters tackling a blaze were ambushed by an unknown number of gunmen in an ongoing standoff in the northwestern US state of Idaho on Sunday, the local sheriff said. Mumbai: Many Bangladeshi nationals illegally entering India are bypassing traditional illegal routes through West Bengal's Kalyani, Howrah and Kolkata due to increased border patrolling and are instead opting for roads to Guwahati, shows MIDC police's probe. Upon arrival, they allegedly stay confined to homes for some time to learn Hindi and scrub out all markers of identity from their speech to avoid detection when stepping out to look for jobs. MIDC police, who arrested seven illegal Bangladeshis in Mumbai and Pune last week, have found that agents in West Bengal are charging Rs 50,000-1 lakh each for forged Aadhaar and PAN cards to allow such immigrants to settle in different parts of the country. Of the seven who were arrested, five—all women—were sent to Pune immediately upon arrival in India and confined to a rental home. There, a police officer said, they underwent training in Hindi. The women worked as domestic help and at salons. Police caught them on June 26 and plan to take legal proceedings against the flat owner. Shaikh, a Bangladeshi, entered India through Guwahati and stayed in Palghar while being employed in Andheri for the past year.
