Princess Anne's Son Just Made a Rare Public Appearance After Report William Has Plans For His Cousins When He's King

Yahoo11-07-2025
Princess Anne's son, Peter Phillips, made a rare appearance at Wimbledon with his new girlfriend, Harriet Sperling.
Peter, whom Princess Anne shares with her ex-husband Mark Phillips, attended the event in a navy blazer, khaki pants, white shirt, and a navy-and-red striped tie. Harriet, whom the royal has been dating for the past year, wore a light blue linen skirt set. Peter and Harriet met their public debut in May 2021 at the Badminton Horse Trials, where Peter's sister, Zara Tindall, was competing.

Peter's public appearance with his girlfriend comes after his divorce from his ex-wife, Autumn Phillips, whom he separated from in 2020 before finalizing their divorce in 2021.
'Mr Peter Phillips and Mrs Autumn Phillips are pleased to be able to report that the financial aspects of their divorce have been resolved through agreement, the terms of which have been approved and ordered by the High Court today,' a spokesperson for Peter said in a statement at the time. Whilst this is a sad day for Peter and Autumn, they continue to put the wellbeing and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla first and foremost. Both Peter and Autumn are pleased to have resolved matters amicably with the children firmly at the forefront of those thoughts and decisions. Peter & Autumn have requested privacy and consideration for their children as the family adapts to a new chapter in their lives.'
Peter's public appearance also comes after The New York Post reported that Peter's cousin, Prince William, who is first in line for the crown after King Charles, is keeping his cousins on 'ice' ahead of his inevitable ascension to the throne. While the report specifically mentioned Peter and William's cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice—who are the daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson—it's possible that William's plan could extend to other family members. 'They're valuable assets and I'm certain they'll get involved with royal duties when William becomes king,' Ingrid Seward, royal author and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, told Hello! magazine.
Seward added that she was 'certain' Beatrice and Eugenie will 'get involved with royal duties' once William becomes king. (Currently, the sisters are not working members of the Firm.) 'It makes perfect sense, because he will need them,' Seward said. 'I see them as a sort of double act, working together in the same way as married couples do. Two gorgeous Princesses working together as sisters would be very powerful. I think it would be wonderful, and I think it will happen.'
Buckingham Palace sources also told the New York Post that Beatrice and Eugenie are 'well aware' of William's plans for them. 'I think they would be open to doing more, because they like to give back,' Seward told Hello!, adding that the sisters are 'being kept on ice' until their new roles come.
She added, 'They have always been close to William, and the King is very fond of them too. I see them taking on the sort of role that Princess Alexandra and the Duchess of Kent had when they were younger, working very hard doing philanthropic work, but not taking center stage.'
Seward also predicted that Beatrice and Eugenie will become 'much higher profile' once William becomes king.
'I think people see them as a couple of really charming young married women who are relatable and aren't entitled,' she said. 'And I think people feel for them because they've got this family problem, with their father, which is very embarrassing and difficult for them.'

Prince George allocated house despite royals being 'plagued by indecision' over Eton

It's looking more likely that Prince George is heading to Eton—despite Prince William and Kate Middleton feeling "plagued by indecision" about sending their eldest son there. According to the Daily Mail, Prince George has been "allocated a house" at the prestigious school amid staffing changes. "Eton has been going through much transition lately so that's perhaps why it wasn't an easy decision," an insider tells the outlet. "There has been a lot going on that isn't public knowledge but which Catherine would, of course, have been informed of. "She has been wise to wait and observe for a few more months for things to settle down, which it has thanks to Nicholas Coleridge's hand on the tiller and Simon Henderson's return–though that has its own dilemmas because he's not everyone's ideal Eton headmaster." Eton has 25 so-called houses of them and the most prestigious is King's Scholars—while both Prince Harry and Prince William attended the storied circa 18th century Manor House. There was previously some speculation that Wills and Kate would send George to Marlborough College instead of Eton, but that seems unlikely since another source recently told the Daily Mail that "all roads lead to Eton" and the school has been "smug" about it. As an insider put it, "It was like, 'I know something and the people at Eton know something, but I'm not going to tell you'. That was after William and Kate visited Eton." The speculation over where Prince George will be attending school comes shortly after a new portrait was shared of the future monarch to celebrate his twelfth birthday. The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a photo of their eldest child leaning against a gate and smiling in a lush outdoor setting. The picture, taken by Josh Shinner, who has produced plenty of other special shots for the family (including their black and white group portrait released last Christmas), was met with delight by fans. Given that George is now getting a little older, the young prince is being exposed more to a life of public service and duties, which he'll be undertaking as an adult. This has resulted in him making a few more appearances at sporting events. Princess Kate's Risky Move in Public With William Goes Viral

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Footage of Princess Kate patting Prince William on the bum during a royal engagement has gone viral on TikTok. The Princess of Wales showed her feelings as the couple were walking into the BAFTA Film Awards at the Royal Festival Hall, in London, on February 19, 2023. The couple were walking past a fan who was filming on a cell phone when she gave William a cheeky pat on the backside, behavior that might cause more conservative royal watchers to raise an eyebrow. A clip of the moment resurfaced on TikTok where it was liked 27,000 times and viewed 280,000 times having been posted with the message: "Kate 👀🍑." Why It Matters Royals have not always been known for public displays of affection. In 1953, when Queen Elizabeth II returned from a six-month tour of the Commonwealth without her children she famously shook Charles' hand rather than hug him. In the modern world, though, the family are far more public with their feelings, including PDAs like Kate's at the BAFTAs. What to Know As the prince and princess made their way down the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall, cameras captured Kate giving William a subtle pat on the behind—a rare public display of affection that got fans talking on social media at the time. Kate stunned onlookers, in a reworked Alexander McQueen gown and opera gloves, while William opted for a velvet tuxedo. The affectionate gesture was subtle—easily missed if not for a slow-motion clip circulating online—but it quickly became one of the night's most talked-about moments. Royal watchers applauded the glimpse of lightheartedness between the couple, interpreting it as a sign of their enduring bond. DaveWhat People Are Saying One fan commented, "she had to claim him on the spot 🤭🤭🤭" while another wrote: "Our beautiful Kate, can't wait for her to be Queen!" What Happens Next The Wales family are on their summer vacation but will likely be back out on royal engagements in the Fall, not least for the State Visit of President Donald Trump.
