Malaki Starks' response to a 5am film text says it all about his mental makeup

Malaki Starks' response to a 5am film text says it all about his mental makeup Malaki Starks welcomed and appreciated a 5am coaching text from Chuck Pagano.
The only thing better than having an elite talent at the safety position is potentially having two of them. That's the situation the Baltimore Ravens are in. Kyle Hamilton enters year four at football's highest level. He has already established himself as one of the best players at his position, and this past April, he was given his partner in crime.
Former Georgia Bulldogs star Malaki Starks was the 27th player taken during the most recent NFL Draft. His resume at the collegiate level was the stuff of legend: Freshman All-American (2022), College Football Playoff National Champion (2022), 2023 Consensus All-American, 2024 First-team All-American, two-time First-Team All-SEC nod. If all of that translates to the professional level, the Ravens are on to something.
Starks is so talented that one can make the argument that bad coaching would be the only thing to prevent a supernova elevation. He won't have that issue as part of the Ravens. John Harbaugh enters year 18 at the helm. Baltimore is led on defense by Zach Orr, and the secondary is led by a familiar face who recently came home after sitting out of coaching for four seasons.
Chuck Pagano wins Malaki Starks over
The last time we saw Chuck Pagano on an NFL sideline, he was the Chicago Bears' defensive coordinator. The last time Chuck was in Baltimore, he led the Ravens' secondary for three seasons (2008-10) before becoming the defensive coordinator in 2011.
Chuck has already won over his young group. His rookie safety recently spoke with media members and thanked his position coach for a 5 am text message, stating, "That's how I want to be coached."
We shouldn't be surprised. Starks cut his teeth under Kirby Smart and Will Muschamp at UGA. Long story short, he's no stranger to being coached hard.
The rookie is off to a good start by catching the eye of his position coach. Chuck knows what it takes to be great in this league, having coached Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, and Terrell Suggs.
He has certainly seen some talent come through the Ravens locker room, and now he has an opportunity to reach and mold Hamilton, Starks, Nate Wiggins, Marlon Humphrey, and Chidobe Awuzie. This is a special unit. Starks couldn't have landed in a better situation.

Commanders Get Worrisome Jayden Daniels Comparison from Cam Newton

Commanders Get Worrisome Jayden Daniels Comparison from Cam Newton originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders have seen some historic rookie seasons. A most wonderful example? In 2012, Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III took the NFL by storm. Advertisement Thanks to RGIII's heroics, Washington won the NFC East as part of a major turnaround. The hope was that the signal-callers' stardom was only just beginning. Football fans know the rest of the story. Injuries derailed a once-promising career, and RGIII became a journeyman. The lessons learned from that experience have some people worried about what could eventually happen to Washington's new star quarterback, Jayden Daniels. Much like RGIII, Daniels is a Heisman Trophy winner and was the second overall pick from his draft class. While Daniels did not win the NFC East in his first year, he helped get Washington to the conference championship game for the first time in three decades. Advertisement So the similarities - right down to their relatively slight builds - are close enough. Those similarities (and differences) are a big reason former league MVP Cam Newton detailed on his latest "Funky Fridays with Cam Newton" podcast why there should be some concern about what could happen to Daniels in Year 2. "There's nobody who had the game in a chokehold like Robert Griffin III," Newton said. "RG3 comes in, has an unbelievable year, and it's like, 'Hold up, he's next." And then, of course, suddenly ... he wasn't. Now, just because Griffin got beaten up and into decline doesn't mean it has to happen again. Maybe a better angle is that it's a cautionary tale for Washington, which should feel both thrilled about its new quarterback and focused on keeping him healthy. 2025 Indianapolis Colts roster preview: RB Khalil Herbert

Let's take a closer look at this Indianapolis Colts team as we go player-by-player through the roster. Up next is RB Khalil Herbert. With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Indianapolis Colts' 91-man roster. Going alphabetically up next is a free agent running back Khalil Herbert. Khalil Herbert's profile 2024 Snap count totals 2024 PFF grades 2024 Season Review Herbert spent his first three NFL seasons and part of 2024 with the Chicago Bears before being traded last season to the Cincinnati Bengals. In total, Herbert carried the ball only 36 times on the year, averaging 3.6 yards per rush with one touchdown. During his first three seasons, Herbert played a much larger role. This included carrying the ball 364 times during that span, while averaging an impressive 4.9 yards per rush. Herbert's role in the passing game over his career has been relatively small, with 64 targets over four seasons. He does have some kick return experience as well. "I feel like I can do everything," Herbert said during his introductory press conference. "Short yardage, outside, inside zone. I feel like I've been a part of offenses that have done it all. Catching the ball out of the backfield, pass pro. I've been asked to do it all, and I feel like I can do it well. I feel like I can do anything and help out in any way." Looking ahead to the 2025 season As GM Chris Ballard said at the NFL combine, the Colts need more production from the running back position behind Jonathan Taylor. Herbert can hopefully provide that production boost, but he will be competing with DJ Giddens and Tyler Goodson for that playing time and maybe even a roster spot. Although Herbert was a recent free agent addition, he is not a roster lock by any means. If released, he leaves behind a dead cap hit of just $482,500, according to Over the Cap. "Just come in here, try to learn, try to help," Herbert said about joining the Colts. "Being available, being a guy that can help carry the load. Just try to come in and bring what I can to the team, to the field, whatever is needed. That's how I look at it and being able to help in whatever way I can."
